According to the advertising slogan, if you see Kellogg's on the box then you know it's Kellogg's in the box.

But now the company has become so concerned about similarly packaged supermarket cereals, it has developed a laser to burn its logo on to individual Corn Flakes.

The concentrated beam of light creates a toasted appearance without changing the taste.

Kellogg's will produce a number of trial batches before considering whether to put some branded flakes into each box to guarantee authenticity.

If the system is successful it could be used on Kellogg's other best-loved brands including Frosties, Special K, Crunchy Nut and Bran Flakes.

Kellogg's embarked on the project to reinforce that they don't make cereals for any other companies and to fire a shot across the bows of makers of 'fake flakes'.

Helen Lyons, lead food technologist at the company, said: 'In recent years there has been an increase in the number of own brands trying to capitalise on the popularity of Kellogg's corn flakes.

'We want shoppers to be under absolutely no illusion that Kellogg's does not make cereal for anyone else.

The new corn flakes will have a toasted appearance that won't change the taste, according to Kellogg's

'We're constantly looking at new ways to reaffirm this and giving our golden flakes of corn an official stamp of approval could be the answer.

'We've established that it is possible to apply a logo or image onto food, now we need to see if there is a way of repeating it on large quantities of our cereal. We're looking into it.'

The company also released figures which show sales of Kellogg's Corn Flakes have risen in 2009 as shoppers with limited budgets opt for recognised brands.

A staggering 128 billion bowls of Kellogg's Corn Flakes are eaten worldwide every year in countries as far afield as Guatemala, Japan, Argentina and India.

And 2.8 million bowls of Kellogg's Corn Flakes are eaten in the UK every day - that's one billion a year.

The firm's Manchester factory is also the biggest Corn Flake production line in the world and churns out cereals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Kellogg's Corn Flakes were also the first cereal to land on the Moon - as the breakfast of choice for the crew on board Apollo 11.

KUCHING: A 20-year-old woman has lodged a police report against her stepfather for keeping her in chains in the house.

The girl claimed that her stepfather, a foreign national, and her mother took her away from the boyfriend’s house at Kampung Rampangi in Santubong and forced her to return to their home in Bandar Baru Semariang on Friday night.

The couple then shackled her legs with chains to prevent her from leaving the house. He secured the chains with a padlock.

However, the woman was able to free herself and sneaked out of the house. A motorcyclist took her to the boyfriend’s house.

Her 21-year-old boyfriend, a construction worker, then accompanied her to lodge a police report.

The girl has been living with her boyfriend for about a year. They were planning to get married.

“I could not believe that her stepfather could resort to such an act as only animals are chained up,” said the boyfriend.

He said the stepfather had objected to his relationship with his stepdaughter and claimed that the man had assaulted them before.

RM794,300 worth of pirated software seized from college

PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Ministry seized RM794,300 worth of pirated software from a private institution of higher learning in Kota Kemuning, Selangor.

The ministry's Enforcement Division director general, Mohd Roslan Mahayudin, said it was the first educational institution to be investigated under the Copyrights Act 1997.

"Our officers found 58 copies of infringing software installed in eight computers in school's administrative office computers," he said, adding that the computers, worth an estimated RM24,000, were also seized on Thursday.

He told a news conference Monday that the ministry's officers also raided an IT solutions provider based in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday and seized 74 copies of of pirated software worth about RM125,800 installed in eight computers worth around RM21,000.

Among the software seized in both raids were different versions of programmes from Adobe, Autodesk, Microsoft and Solidworks.

He said that so far this year, the ministry had raided 30 companies suspected of using pirated software in business and seized 178 computers, 2,106 copies of pirated or unlicensed software with a total of RM 7.6 million.

Asked whether the ministry was only focusing on the end user instead of the source and manufacturers of the pirated software, Roslan said his officers were still gunning for the manufacturers and had raided two pirated software factories in March and May this year.

Business Software Alliance Asia Pacific Anti-Piracy senior director Tarun Sawney, who was present at the news conference, said that software piracy was different from other forms of piracy like music and movie-based piracy in that the source was the company using the pirated software and not the factory.

He lauded the Malaysian government for its commitment to protecting intellectual property rights in Malaysia as the 30 cases filed by the ministry was the highest in comparison to the rest of Asia.

"The regional average in Asia Pacific for piracy is around 61 percent whereas Malaysia only has a 59 percent piracy rate, which is two percent lower than the rest of the region.

"Also, over the last four to five years, the piracy rate for software has never gone up, it either stays the same or has gone down.

"This is an encouraging sign for our industry. The work being done by the ministry and the education are having good effect among the companies," he said.

He added that even though the piracy rate had gone down, the revenue losses for software developers might continue to rise because of the large number of computers with unlicensed software in the market.

"When there's less piracy, people tend to buy more computers. For instance, at 59 percent piracy, people might buy around 100 computers but if the piracy rate decreases by 2 percent to around 57 percent, people might buy around 120 computers with unlicensed software, translating into greater revenue losses," said Sawney. - Bernama

Dua penjenayah rompak Bank Hong Leong ditembak mati

KUALA LUMPUR 12 Okt. - Polis menembak mati dua penjenayah yang dikehendaki berhubung satu rompakan bank di Taman Segar, Cheras bulan lalu, di dua lokasi berasingan di Selangor dan Pahang hari ini.

Kejadian dikatakan bermula pada pukul 2 petang apabila polis berjaya mengesan dan mengekori dua buah kenderaan yang dinaiki suspek iaitu sebuah Honda Accord dan Toyota Estima di salah satu lokasi di Subang Jaya.

Ketua Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Ku Chin Wah berkata, sebaik sahaja menyedari kehadiran polis, dua suspek terbabit kemudiannya berpecah dan memecut kenderaan masing-masing ke arah berasingan.

Menurutnya, Toyota Estima yang dipandu suspek berusia 41 tahun berkenaan dikejar polis sehingga ke Goh Tong Jaya, Pahang pada kira-kira pukul 3.30 petang.

''Apabila sampai di satu persimpangan jalan di situ, berlaku insiden tembak menembak antara kedua-dua pihak menyebabkan suspek terbunuh.

''Pemeriksaan polis ke atas kereta suspek menemui sepucuk pistol automatik Smith & Wesson berserta pelurunya,'' katanya yang ditemui di tempat kejadian di Goh Tong Jaya, Pahang petang ini.

Sebelum itu, nasib yang sama turut menimpa rakan suspek apabila lelaki berusia 33 tahun bersenjatakan sepucuk pistol .38 revolver juga ditembak mati berhampiran kompleks beli belah Jusco Taman Equine, Seri Kembangan dekat sini.

Chin Wah memberitahu, kedua-dua suspek merupakan anggota sekumpulan tiga penjenayah yang terlibat merompak cawangan Bank Hong Leong di Taman Segar, Cheras pada 18 September lalu.

Dalam kejadian tersebut, seorang pengawal keselamatan bank yang berusia 27 tahun maut terkena dua das tembakan rambang yang dilepaskan suspek.

Difahamkan, sejak rompakan itu, cawangan Jenayah Berat (D9) dari Bukit Aman dan Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen (IPK) Kuala Lumpur mula menjejaki pergerakan kumpulan itu sehinggalah kejayaan pada hari ini.

Satu sidang akhbar mengenai kejayaan polis menumpaskan kedua-dua suspek terbabit hari ini dijangka akan diadakan di IPK Kuala Lumpur esok.

Police inspecting the car of the robber who was shot dead in Seri Kembangan

A SHORT burst of speed, a desperate bid to shoot their way out and finally death in a hail of bullets.

The locations were different but the fate was the same for two "highly wanted and dangerous" suspected robbers believed to be involved in a spate of bank robberies in the Klang Valley and Selangor.

They were shot dead by police on Monday.

Two crack teams, one from Bukit Aman and the other from KL police serious crime division (D9) in unmarked police vehicles, spotted them in Subang Jaya driving separate vehicles - a Honda Accord and a Toyata Estima - at about 2pm.

The Bukit Aman team trailed one robber to Equine Park in Seri Kembangan.

Realising that he was being tailed by the cops, the 33-year old suspected robber sped off when he was near a fast food outlet at about 3pm.

However, his car was blocked by another vehicle at a traffic lights junction. Instead of heeding the cops' call to surrender, he got out of the car and fired several shots at them from a .38 calibre revolver.

The Bukit Aman team wasted no time in firing back. One of the bullets hit him in the chest, killing him. His car was riddled with about 20 bullet holes.

The second shootout happened about half an hour later at Jalan Gotong Jaya leading towards Genting Highlands. The other suspected robber who also found out that he was being followed, started to speed.

But when there was no escape route, the 41-year old man pulled out his revolver and started shooting at the police. He too was shot dead.

City CID chief SAC II Datuk Ku Chin Wah police had been monitoring the "highly wanted and dangerous" robberss who were believed to be involved in several bank robberies, including the Taman Segar, Cheras Hong Leong Bank hold-up on Sept 18.

In the incident, three robbers stormed into the bank at about 3.55pm and shot dead 27-year-old security guard Adi Faizal before escaping with about RM100,000.

The suspects, wearing helmets and armed with a pistol, entered through the front door of the bank. One of them fired two shots at the guard who was standing near the automated teller machines before he could use his pump gun on them.

Two other unarmed guards hid in the back and dared not challenge the robbers.

As the robbers were leaving the bank, one of them grabbed the pump gun of the dead guard and threw it into a drain outside the bank.

SAC II Ku said two revolvers were recovered from the robbers who were shot dead Monday.

He said police were now on the lookout for the remaining members of the gang. More details of the case are expected to be revealed in a press conference scheduled for Tuesday.

PONTIAN: “Nak kahwin susah, mati nanti lagi susah...,” keluh seorang lelaki mengaku berketurunan Cina dan mengamalkan ajaran Buddha yang bingung apabila tidak dapat mendaftarkan perkahwinannya kerana namanya direkodkan sebagai Ali bin Bakar dan beragama Islam.

Ali atau Ah Tee, 23, mendakwa mengamalkan ajaran Buddha sejak lahir dan bukannya beragama Islam seperti tertera pada kad pengenalan (MyKad), sekali gus menyebabkan dia gagal mendaftarkan perkahwinannya di Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) daerah ini, baru-baru ini.

“Saya orang Cina, bukan Melayu walaupun nama saya Ali Bakar,” katanya yang menetap di Pekan Nanas, dekat sini.

Katanya, dia mengalami kesukaran untuk mendaftar perkahwinan disebabkan MyKadnya tertulis nama Ali bin Bakar dan beragama Islam sedangkan dia tidak pernah mengamalkan agama terbabit sejak kecil.

Ali berkata, kekeliruan itu berpunca daripada bapanya, lelaki Melayu bernama Bakar Dolah yang berkahwin dengan ibunya, Suki, wanita Cina beragama Buddha dan hasil perkongsian hidup, mereka dikurniakan lima anak.

Wanita itu memeluk Islam untuk berkahwin dengan Bakar, tetapi masih mengamalkan ajaran asal sehingga menyebabkan masa depan lima anaknya bercelaru.

Menurut Ali, kakak sulungnya dinamakan mengikut nama Cina iaitu Ah Ni dan tidak mengalami sebarang kesukaran untuk mendaftar perkahwinan, tetapi abang dan adiknya dinamakan mengikut nama Melayu iaitu Lan, 25, adik lelaki, Hamid, 21, dan adik perempuan, Rani, 15.

“Inilah yang menjadi masalah kami empat beradik dan saya tidak tahu sama ada bapa saya Islam atau tidak kerana mereka tidak beritahu perkara sebenar. Saya, ibu serta adik-beradik mengamalkan ajaran Buddha,” katanya ketika ditemui di Pejabat Agama Pontian di sini, baru-baru ini.

Menurutnya, ketika hendak mendaftar perkahwinan, pegawai JPN terperanjat kerana MyKadnya tertulis nama Melayu dan pegawai terbabit membawanya ke pejabat agama daerah untuk meminta penjelasan lanjut.

Dia berkata, pendaftaran perkahwinannya terpaksa ditangguhkan buat sementara sehingga kemelut ini dapat diselesaikan.

Ali turut risau kemungkinan mayat mereka menjadi pertikaian jika mati kelak, sekali gus mengulangi apa yang berlaku terhadap bapanya.

Menurut sumber, bapa Ali seorang Melayu beragama Islam bernama Bakar Dollah dan mempunyai tiga isteri.

Isteri pertama dan kedua dipercayai berketurunan Melayu manakala isteri ketiga seorang Cina iaitu ibu Ah Tee.

Katanya, Bakar pernah memberitahu orang ramai bahawa dia bukan Islam, tetapi tiada rekod pendaftaran yang mengesahkan dia seorang berketurunan Cina atau beragama Buddha.

“Ketika Bakar meninggal dunia dan hendak dikebumikan Februari lalu, keluarga sebelah isteri Cinanya menuntut jenazah itu dikebumikan di tanah perkuburan bukan Islam, tetapi dihalang Jabatan Agama Johor.

“Akhirnya Bakar dikebumikan di Tanah Perkuburan Islam Mahmoodiah di Johor Bahru,” katanya ketika dihubungi.

Sementara itu, Ali berkata, ibunya kini menetap di Kota Tinggi bersama kakak dan adik bongsunya manakala dia bersama abangnya tinggal di Pekan Nanas.

All four remaining members of Boyzone - Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham - will be flying to Palma, Majorca tomorrow.

Shane Lynch told the News of the World: 'Me and the boys are flying out in the morning. We just need to get over to where he's passed and work out what we need to do.'

Ronan Keating, who is in Chicago, is said to be completely devastated.

Gately came out as gay ten years ago - causing a sensation in the pop music world.

He wed Andrew Cowles, first in a commitment ceremony in Las Vegas in 2003 and more formally in a civil partnership ceremony in London in March 2006.

Boyzone had 17 top five singles and four number one albums before splitting in 2000. They made a comeback tour in 2007, inspired by the success of Take That.

A spokesman for Boyzone confirmed the death but details are yet to emerge.

so I written something for my shitty ass blog poking fun at Isa Samad. I used Jesus as an example and comparing him to Isa Samad. All the time showing how despite sharing the same name ( ISA = Jesus in islam) , Isa Samad is nowhere as cool as Jesus.

Ketua Setiausaha KDN, Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam berkata, pihaknya akan menyiasat mengenai dakwaan itu sebelum mengambil tindakan susulan.

"Ini kali pertama kita menerima laporan seperti ini. Bagaimanapun pegawai dari unit yang berkaitan telah diarah menyiasat berhubung aduan tersebut.

"Pihak kementerian tidak akan teragak-agak mengambil tindakan tegas terhadap mana-mana pihak yang terlibat mengikut akta sedia ada bagi membendung penjualannya di negara ini," katanya ketika dihubungi Kosmo! semalam.

Kosmo! kelmarin melaporkan aduan Persatuan Pengguna Pulau Pinang berhubung lambakan kad-kad ucapan perayaan Deepavali yang diselitkan dengan unsur-unsur ghairah, lucah dan ganas yang membimbangkan masyarakat India di negara ini.

Police are urging Hotmail customers to change their passwords after a massive security breach.

Up to 21million people and businesses who use the email service in the UK are potentially at risk of being defrauded after passwords were acquired illegally.

Around 10,000 passwords were obtained by hackers who created a fake website identical to Hotmail's to fool users into entering their email address and password. The scam is known as 'phishing'.

The list of users was then posted anonymously on to website pastebin.com on October 1.

It is feared that the information could be used by fraudsters to access email accounts and steal personal information such as credit card account details.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: 'We advise people to take a commonsense approach and change their password. It is early days but we have yet to receive reports of fraud linked to this breach.'

The breach was announced on technology blog Neowin.net after its administrator Tom Warren was contacted by a tipster who spotted the online list.

The Hotmail security breach is an embarrassing blow to U.S. technology giant Microsoft, co-founded by Chairman Bill Gates

The list included details of Microsoft's Windows Live Hotmail accounts with email addresses ending hotmail.com, msn.com and live.com

He said it contained email addresses and passwords for more than 10,000 European users with email addresses starting with an A and B, prompting fears that there could be additional lists.

'The details have since been removed but Neowin has seen part of the list posted and can confirm the accounts are genuine and most appear to be based in Europe,' said Mr Warren.

'Currently it appears only accounts used to access Microsoft's Windows Live Hotmail have been posted, this includes @hotmail.com, @msn.com and @live.com accounts.'

A Microsoft spokesman said: 'We are aware that some Windows Live hotmail customers' credentials were acquired illegally and exposed on a website.

Upon learning of the issue, we immediately requested that the credentials be removed and launched an investigation to determine the impact to customers.

'We are working diligently to help customers regain control of their accounts.'
