Need broadband recommendations in Sri Hartamas

Sorry if my question could be resolved by going through the threads in this forum but I urgently need to get a broadband provider.

I'm staying in the Sri Hartamas area. I had subscribed to Streamyx for about 4+ years before I finally got fed up with the near dial-up speed.

I switched to iZZi, enjoyed fantastic speed for the first two weeks, then watched it drop to a crawl for the rest of the year. Now, my downloads max out at 30kB/s.

I'm a heavy torrent downloader, so I need decent speed. I'm debating whether to go back to Streamyx (RM72/mo for 512 and RM94/mo for 1mbps, after factoring in the RM75 activation fee), or to just settle for the 30kB/s download speed and keep my iZZi subscription (RM88/mo)

Are there any other alternatives to iZZi and Streamyx in my area?

[addedon]January 14, 2009, 3:06 pm[/addedon]Ok, if there aren't any alternatives besides Streamyx, Maxis and iZZi, then just help me decide on one of the following:

1. Stick with iZZi and pay RM88/mo. for 300kb/s speed
2. Switch to Streamyx 1mbps at RM94/mo.
3. Switch to Streamyx 512kb/s at RM72/mo.

Jayacom - Buyer Beware

I've been looking for an MSI Wind U100 after reading a lot of positive reviews on it online. Found one unit on display at Jayacom, 3rd floor Low Yat Plaza:

The specs listed next to the display model clearly stated that it was a U100 with a 10" LCD screen and 1GB of RAM. Paid for it with my credit card, including the 2% processing fee and went home.

When I was installing Windows, I thought the screen looked kind of small, so I measured it and found it was only 8.9" In addition, the RAM only showed up as 512 megs. Did a search online and found out that the model they had sold me was the U90 instead of the U100.

Flipped it over and the sticker underneath confirmed that it was the U90.

I'm sure a lot of you are going to say that it was my responsibility to ensure that I was getting the exact product that I wanted, and I agree.

BUT, anyone who saw the unit on display at Jayacom would have made exactly the same mistake I did. The model number isn't listed on the product anywhere except underneath. And the whole time I was dealing with the shop manager, she never once specified that the model I was getting wasn't the U100 as described on the specs card next to the display unit. I asked specifically for the U100, and she sold me the U90 instead.

In fact, when I went back to Jayacom last night to complain, they sold another U90 to a buyer. I tried to warn him, but he was in a rush so he just paid for it. Today, he was back at Jayacom again to complain that they sold him the wrong unit.

What do you think? Honest mistake or fraudulent business practices?

Lesson learned -- make sure you're getting the exact model you want before you make the purchase. Check the model number, measure the screen size and make them power on the unit to confirm that it has exactly the RAM amount listed.

Normal Router + Wireless Broadband?

Broadband provider
ISP/package: iZZi you (external USB)
Location: Sri Hartamas
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Yes. They asked me to buy a router with wireless broadband support (ie. Linksys WRT54GC Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router)

Personal equipment
Modem: Kyocera iBurst terminal
Router: Prolink 9300G
Firewall used: n/a

Here's my question: I'm currently using iZZi to get online, and that's fine as long as I only want to get one system online at a time. If I wanted to get two, I just run the Internet Sharing Wizard and that works fine. But if I want to get more than 2 systems online, or if I want to get my wireless access point going again?

I already have a Prolink Hurricane 9300G from when I was using Streamyx, and was wondering if I can set up a network connection so that one PC is getting online through iZZi, and then sharing the connection out through my wired port, which would plug in to my Prolink wireless router.

Or does the Prolink wireless router only work with ADSL connections?

I've tried using just a switch, but that didn't work either.

I'd rather not have to buy a Linksys WRT54GC Compact Wireless-G Broadband Router just to share my iZZi connection with more than 2 systems, but at this point I don't know how else to set it up the way I want to.

Any suggestions?

[addedon]February 8, 2008, 1:44 pm[/addedon]Just a bit more info:

I tried plugging in my Prolink wireless router to one system, without any phone line plugged into the router. I went to 192.168.0.254 but it wouldn't even pull up the web interface for the router.

Figured I'd have a look at the settings there and see if it could be set to anything other than PPPoE.

It's the same type that was advertised as a free gift when you purchase a Canon LBP-2900 Laser Printer. Tried to get one at the Canon shop in Midvalley, but they weren't aware of the promotion.

Anyone selling theirs, or know where I might buy one?
