Hard Drive Speakers

I got some dead hard drives I've been popping + I stumbled on some Youtube videos = My own crappy phone cam video about hard drive speakers.

The voice coils in the drive head works in the same way as ones in speakers do. I traced the the connection from the coils to the controller board and used dmm probes plugged to a CMoy's output. The really old 5.25" hdd has a coil impedance of 13 ohms, 2 ohms more than the laptop hard drive I had and 3 ohms less than IEMs. The 5.25" one sounds louder than the laptop drive, with all volumes maxed. I don't have a power amp, which could maybe drive these 'speakers' better.

I only have jazz, techno and rock music in my playlists. Jazz music sounds the best as low frequency signals are inaudible. With foobar's tone generator playing 1 Hz, you can see the head moving back and forth each second.

Tachikoma is going to come over to my house to have his Stax amp rewired. Also he's bringing liek 2 Stax "earspeakers", another Stax amp, and an AKG K340. My inventory pulak is humble in comparison, add a CMoy to the stuff in my sig.

So, I'm inviting 3 members at most to this meet, because my room very small and messy. It'll be great if we could have Grado/Senns and Little Dot owners come over.

Time: Wednesday afternoon around 3 pm

Logitech S100 Speaker problem

Hi, I just bought one of them Logitech S100 speakers from Cycom. I soon found out that its faulty, loud crackles can be heard after 5 minutes of playback. I went to the service center 2 days ago to have it replaced. Unfortunately, even the replacement has the same problem, except only on one channel. Want to know if there's anybody else with this problem. Seems like a whole batch is faulty.
