Gamer's Hideout GXL HALO 3 Recruitment Drive!

On behalf of Gamer's Hideout (and as the interim team manager and chaperon of sorts ), Malaysia's best game shop is looking to sponsor three Halo 3 teams (2v2) to the upcoming GXL competition in Singapore on 15th and 16th December. If you think you got what it takes, head down to Gamer's Hideout at Cineleisure Damansara this Friday night, 2nd of November (from 7pm) for an open tryout. You can come alone or in pairs, but selection will be based on individuals, not teams.

Selection will be based on several criteria, namely:

Skill - You obviously have to be good at the game, but you don't have to be god-like
Teamwork - Since its 2v2, you have to have good communications and teamwork with your partner (whoever it may be)
Sportsmanship - No matter what the end result is, we want the selected individuals to enjoy the experience. No hissy fits or sore losers.

Since GXL hasn't revealed the rules for Halo 3 yet, we will be playing a mixture of maps and game modes for the tryout. We will try to pair everyone in attendance at random. Note that the final selection is at the discretion of Gamer's Hideout. If you pwn everyone there, but you have a terrible attitude, you should know why you were not chosen. Likewise, if you are not the best player on that day but display good sportsmanship, you may just be selected.

Here are some important details for those interested in taking part.

1. Need to have a valid passport (at least 6 months before expiry)
2. Need to be 18 years old and above (for those below 18, it will be considered on a case to case basis)
3. Able to travel to Singapore on 14th, 15th and 16th December
4. Able to attend regular training sessions at Gamer's Hideout (from 4th November onwards. Dates and times TBA)
5. Must be a Gamer's Hideout member (for those that aren't, you can become one before 3rd November)

For the six individuals eventually selected, transportation (bus), lodging and food will be fully sponsored. In the event of any of the selected teams winning any of the prizes, GH will take 30% of the cash prize and donate it to charity (charity organization to be announced later) in the team's and shop's name. At the end of the day, it's about the experience and fun, not the money.

What exactly is Consoul 2007? Well, it's Malaysia's first and (hopefully) largest "Bring Your Own Xbox 360" LAN party. Organized by Gamer's Hideout, it will be a chance for you to meet up with other 360 gamers and play against them in the flesh using your own Xbox 360.

Besides that, there is also going to be two tournaments. First of all there is going to be Gears of War tournament (4v4). And then, there is going to be a special Command & Conquer 3 tournament (1v1). Both tournaments will offer very good prizes, I can assure you.

After from that, there is also going to be a Lucky Draw as well offering prizes for all attendees such as a wireless wheel, Live Vision, point cards, faceplate and more!.

Ok, sounds good doesn't it? So, how do you take part?

At this point in time, there are 3 ways to be part of Consoul 2007.

1. Player
- have to bring your own Xbox 360 and display (LCD TV or monitor)
- entry fees: RM29.90
- get a special goodie bag
- get a special mystery gift!
- lunch & dinner for two days (halal)

2. Guest
- don't have to bring your own Xbox 360
- must be registered under a Player (one Player can only bring or register one Guest maximum)
- have to share a 360 with a Player
- entry fees: RM39.90
- get a special goodie bag

3. GH Player
- don't have to bring your own Xbox 360
- Will be provided a Xbox 360
- entry fees: RM49.90

Okay, I hope everyone understand how this event is going to work. Read the short FAQI whipped up below for more info.

Q: I'm interested in bringing my own Xbox 360 to the event but why do I have to bring my own LCD monitor/TV?
A: Unfortunately, loaning a large amount of LCD monitors or TV needed for this event is almost impossible. The only way to make this event a reality is to have you guys bring your own display as well.

Q: I have no problems bringing my Xbox 360 and LCD TV but I'm worried about the security.
A: The event area will be off limits to non-participants. Participants will be identified by a tag and anyone without this tag will not be allowed to enter the event area. During the day, we'll have marshals keeping an eye for any itchy hands but please do your part by keeping an eye on your own stuff as well. For those that wish to leave their consoles or display overnight, the stuff will be stored inside the GH shop.

Q: What's included in the entry fees?
A: It includes a goodie bag. The contents of the goodie bag has not been finalized but it should include a T-shirt, official Xbox 360 merchandise, C&C 3 merchandise and more. The total value will be more than the entry free for sure.

The entry fee also includes automatic entry to both the GOW and C&C 3 tournament. You can choose not to take part if you wish.

Q: What's this mystery gift for people that are bringing their own Xbox 360 and display?
A: It's a very special gift and something of value in return for the hassle. It's also something that money can't buy. We don't want to spoil it for you guys but you'll find out on that day itself.

Q: How does the Lucky Draw work?
A: Irregardless if you are a Player, Guest or GH Player, you will be eligible for the Lucky Draw. On Sunday evening, we will do the draw.

Q: What are the rules for the GOW/C&C 3 tournament?
A: For GOW, we'll be following the WCG rules. For C&C 3, its also the WCG rules. go to www.worldcybergames.com to read them.

Q: My Xbox 360 is modded, can I bring it to the event?
A: Unfortunately no, even if all your games are original. This is an event for original gamers only. We will check on the event day if the consoles are modded or otherwise. if you are unsure, please call GH for advice.

Q: How many players will there be in total?
A: We are targeting a maximum of 32 players that will be bringing their own Xbox 360 and display. GH has additionally 8 Xbox 360s of their own, so in total, there could be about 40 gamers.

Q: What is this nonsense about bring your own Xbox 360 and display? Can't you guys provide them?
A: If you know anyone that can provide 32 Xbox 360s WITH LCD monitors, please get in touch with us. We'll gladly assist them organize this event.

Q: Can i bring my handheld game consoles there as well? Especially my pink psp.
A: Sure, go ahead, if you feel that at one point in time that you'll be bored of playing with the 360. But as a show of respect, ori only please.

Q: I can't participate in the event but can I come on one of the days?
A: You can drop by anytime you like to check out the event but you cannot take part in any of the activities (tournaments, lucky draws, etc). If there are any GH 360s available, you can use them to play with other players, but you certainly cannot use any of the player's 360. Besides, you won't be allowed in the LAN party area (where all the player's 360s are) unless you get special permission from us anyway.

Q: What games can I bring to the event and play with my friends?
A: Any game you like, just as long as the game discs are ori. There will be periods in between the tournaments where you guys will have free time. During these free and easy periods you'll have the chance to go up against other players in whatever multiplayer games you like. For the benefit of everyone, here are some games that are popular and make for good multiplayer matches. If you have them, you can bring them along. To make things even simpler, you guys can also agree beforehand what games you guys want to play there.

Important Announcement!

On the 26th, Saturday, please be at the Lower Ground Level of Cineleisure (the area in front of Gamer's Hideout) by 10.30am. We have allocated 1 hour for everyone to register and setup their gear. We intend to start at 11.30am.

If you arrive late, then we'll have to start late and that means less playing time for you guys. So, don't be late ya.

PS: For players, please remember to bring the necessary like your AV/power cables, controllers, games, etc. For GH players, please remember to bring the games that you want to play with others.

hi guys,

i need 2 guys (or gals) interested in earning some pocket money during this coming PC Fair (13 to 15 April) at the KL Convention Center.

one booth will be having a 360 on demo with gears of war running. It will be for the public to try and i need 2 guys to take care of it.

the scope of this job is simple. you'll need to:

1. take care of the console and controllers.
2. explain to the public the controls and how you the play the game.
3. run a mini competition and determine the winner.

the pay is RM100 per day.

Pre-registration for BF2 CELgames 06 tourney

After much consideration and feedback from the posts in LYN, I've decided to do a small pre-registration for Battlefield 2 @ CELgames 06.

The reason for doing so is for me to gauge the number of teams interested in participating. So, if any BF2 teams are really interested in taking part in CELgames 06, put down the name of your team now.

It will be a 8v8 format.

I like to highlight that this pre-registration thingy is very important for me for various reasons. I urge everyone to spread the word and get those interested to put their name down here.

I will reveal more about the tournament once i get everything in order.

- Entry fees is RM15 per person and the team leader will register for the whole team at www.gamers.com.my/celgames06

- For team leaders, don't worry about the lack of space for subs in the registration forms. If so happen that your registered player can't make it on the day, just let us know who will be replacement on the day itself.

- Its 8v8

- Although the website says 8 teams max, we will try to accomodate all teams assuming there is more than 8 team participating.

- Deadline for registration is one week before 24 Nov!

- The prize list is on the website

- The Singaporean teams can join, and they are expected to come, so you Malaysians better train hard. I'm rooting for you guys!

GameAxis' CELgames 2006 is back and this time, we're bigger and better than before!

Here are the details of the CElgames this year.

Games: Need for Speed: Most Wanted, FIFA 2006
Entry fees: RM20 per person

Games: Battlefield 2
Entry fees: RM15 per person

Prelims dates: October to November 2006
Prelims venues: Over 10 cybercafes in Klang Valley and a few outstation (Ipoh, Penang, JB, etc). Click here for full list

Grand Final Date: 20 to 26 Nov
Grand Final Venue: Plaza Low Yat
Prizes: Click here for full list

*Note that only NFS and FIFA will be played at the cybercafe prelims. BF2 players will battle it out at Plaza Low Yat on 25 & 26 Nov.

*Competition days for the Grand Final will start from 24 Nov.
- 24 Nov: Plaza Low Yat prelims
- 25 Nov: Grand Final starts
- 26 Nov: Semis & Final

This is Blake from GameAxis Malaysia.

First of all, I wish to apologize to all BF2 freaks in Malaysia because GameAxis hasn't been showing you guys much love. But to make up for it, here is a piece of good news.

For the first time ever, GameAxis' CELgames this year will feature a BF2 compy!

Details are a bit sketchy at the moment and but here's what I can share with you guys.

Date: Detween 20 to 26 November 2006.
Format: 8v8 and/or 2v2
Prizes: Cash and/or prizes for the entire team
Locations: Plaza Low Yat
Entry Fees: RM20 per person
Goodie bags: T-shirts, caps, etc etc (still working out the details)

I hope that is good enough for you guys. BTW, if everything goes according to plans, we might just fly down teams from Singapore as well! Then, the BF2 tourney will be more like a invitational/exhibition tourney. Keep your fingers crossed.

But now I have a favor to ask from you guys.

Can all the BF2 clan leaders in LYN contact me? I need to speak to you guys urgently. Please drop an email to blake (at) gameaxis.com with your contact number and I will contact you guys ASAP.

a big hi to everyone artistically inclined here at LYN,

my name is Blake and I run a humble local gaming magazine called GameAxis Malaysia.

GameAxis is primarily a magazine about video games but it does ocassionally cover other aspects of popular culture such as movies, toys and fashion.

I have to admit that the magazine is not that great compared to other foreign gaming magazines available in Malaysia, but at least we're local. Our content is very local as our articles are written from a Malaysian gamer's point of view.

As part of our plans to provide more local content to our readers, we're planning to start a section dedicated to art related to video games.

It's very simple really. Any graphic student/professional or anyone can submit their work to the magazine and the most interesting artwork will get publish every month, along with a photo and a little description of the artist.

The medium can be any format, digital or otherwise. It can be pixel art, vector art, animation, illustrations, graffiti, stencils, photographs, oil, crayon, etc. My only request is it that the theme has to be video games.

There is no payment for all artwork submitted but I will try my best to give the chosen artist of the month a small token of appreciation like a copy of a game, a goodie bag, etc.

If you want your work to be seen by the magazine's 20,000 readers every month, here are the details on how to submit your work.

1. Send all artwork to blake (at) gameaxis.com, together with your full name and contact number. Please try to include a short description about your submitted work like how did you get the inspiration to do it or why did you do it.
2. Please put the subject "For GameAxis Art Section" in your email.
3. All artwork must be 300dpi in resolution and A4 in size. This includes jpg, scans, psd, ai, etc files.

Please submit all entries by 20th June 2006.
