so i know someone wanna sell his ibm x61. bought in japan like 6 months ago. so still got 6 months left warranty. but he said, its not international warranty.

general thoughts
1)Setup was pretty simple, just use the wizard if you don't know what to do. my only troubleshoot was the vci and vpi settings, which is 0 and 35, the default is 0 and 38 it won't work on screamyx with the default settings, so check with your isp. just google it.
2)this is a modem/wifi combo so its a texas instrument chipset, most combo are by TI. so no dd-wrt here.
3)its boot up time is fairly fast, like 10-20 seconds?
4)the adapter is nice and small, and doesn't heat up a lot.
5)its design to lay horizontally, but you still can make it stand vertically, it just won't be very stable, but it does improve ventilation. runs a lot cooler. just don't knock it over.
6)the antaenna is detachable so you can get a better one if you need it.
7)wireless security is only upto WPA, no WPA2. but WPA is good enough for me. i'm not too worry about hackers. don't really care about its aoss thing.

why i bought it?
1) i had enough with my prolink router rebooting when it gets too hot under load. i had to put a huge CPU heatsink on it, still it reboots but on a less frequency
2) sluggish connection, i can get like 2.4MB/s of lan to wlan transfer. thats like 19.2Mb/s. and its not as responsive, i forgot the ping time. browsing on local network is sluggish.
3) i noticed that my internet still disconnects, so i figured out it must be my 3 year old (or more), kasda, tmnut stock modem is dying, and it is.
4) might as well get a combo. though initially wanted a whr-g54s so i can put dd-wrt, i just can't find one in a nearby shops.
5) its RM30 cheaper than Linksys similar product. i bought it for RM210 in digitalmall pj.
6) why not a linksys? it is a more popular brand, there's a lot of reviews on it, but not all is good reviews. i only found 19 user reviews on buffalo, and only one bad review, but the bad review would be the user incompetentcy... i know bufallo make good stuff, so i decided to get it and test it out thoroughly, as the other review is vaguely good. they say its good, but not how good.

performance.
i'll make a comparison with my old stuff.

modem
1) no more disconnects, i ran it 2 days straight, my irc didn't reconnect, so it was on all the time.
2) i'm on normal 1.5Mbit/512kbit adsl so no comments for you UK/european ADSL2 readers, if any. yes my modem detects it as 1.5Mbit. yes it's a screamyx.
3) connection still going on strong and stable. i do get the same bandwidth with the kasda, maybe it can't handle the 1.5Mbit upgrade...
4) ping time is 40-80ms less. i'm getting more headshots on wolfenstein enemy territory. i play on fag-clan public server, nick solidstatesociety.

wireless.
1) i can only get 2.61MB/s max LAN to WLAN, observed with netmeter, there's a review for this model on macworld or something, it says 100MB in just over
a minute. thats like 1.66MB/s and i think theirs is WLAN TO WLAN, a centrino base to a macbook, so the max transfer should be around 3.2MB/s? but this
wasn't the case. transferring WLAN to WLAN still yields a ~2.6MB/s. this was with a notebook with atheros chipset and dlink usb G. so it could come down
to your notebooks hardware. oh well, i do get a a 0.2MB/s upgrade and lower latency, browsing on my fileserver is fast and responsive. i am running WPA
encryption.

2)i noticed today, after 2 days of running filetransfer can get only to 1.5MB/s LAN to WLAN. internet still max out. but getting into the its web based
config screen was holy crap slow, unuseable. i shut it down for a minute and restarted it. cured. not a problem really.

3) signal strength, good all over the house. double story house? don't know. but it can get to 3 brick walls to my dlink USB G no problem, signal still
very high. my prolink jumps around, and i need to find a right position, that is not the case now. how far test? lazy. notebook is always very high
even with procrap.

4) there's qos, but really i'm the one hogging the line. didn't bother.

5) i DMZ'ed myself, i want the nat on the others, but its blocking my throttled torrent. portforward didn't seem to work, or i did it wrong. i am running comodo firewall, so no worries.

6) runnning stock firmware, haven't check yet. but i would like to see wpa2 upgrade. and maybe power saving mode? coz the antenna is always on full strength. i would like a a variable mode, saves a watt or 2

7) oh and i can't get the maximum bandwidth when on wireless connection, on a single connection. i get like half of what i get when on lan. but parallel download meaning download accelerator or bittorent, it can max out. the same case with prolink. and i don't know why.

lawl, i'm just being bitter coz i can't get 3.2MB/s, but that might probably be my receiving end is the bottleneck. XD
if you need a combo wifi modem, sure i do recommend it. is it any better than linksys? i wouldn't know. send me one and i'll check for you
money well spent.

today, after 5 days of usage, i did shut it down at some time when there's a thunderstorm, experienced an internet slowdown. at first i though it was i'm getting some screamyx bad ip. so i restarted for a new ip. after many tries it still persist. so i reseted it. cured. i'm not sure if its the modem though....
you should backup the config file.
but i think it would be a bothersome for newbies to get in the config everyweek. well we'll see if it really is the modem's fault

//yep definitely need a weekly reboot. internet slows down to a 20KB/s when it can go to 150KB/s. and it seems just a shutdown and turn on didn't fixed it. i reset the config and flash the backup. maybe a longer time of shutdown? well i couldn't wait so i flash it.

age, 2 years? maybe almost 3years?
warranty, 3 days from me.
i have to say its kinda crappy. heavy wifi usage yields a lot of heat. it will disconnect. it will reconnect but its better to reset it, coz after reconnect most of the time your it will only get you 5-9kB/s on screamyx. hence the heatsink DIY XD. with the heatsink d/c is less frequent.
with no heatsink, no problem if you're using it heavily on lan and light surfing on the wireless end.
with heatsink, do whatever you want ;P

but there's one more catch. i can't get to normally 120-130kB/s on wireless connection for screamyx. no problem on lan. i just noticed it recently coz of some circumstances i needed to switch from lan to wireless. well no one complaint to me... oh on wireless i can get like 60kB/s on a single connection to the internet. if you use download accelerator with 2 or 3 connection it will max out.

for filetransfer fastest is 2.3MB/s

reason for sale. i've had enough of it. gonna get an all in one modem + wifi.
why the bad review? i'm not gonna cheat anyone, if no one gonna buy it i'm just gonna store it away or flash it with dunno what firmware and brick it XD
i think market price ~RM120 so offer reasonably. and i might consider selling

kasda modem for sale. its tmnut stock router. still using daily if not 24hours XD it never disconnect. for a reasonable price i will sell it. if not, i'll keep it as a back up.
