Budget 2010: 1Malaysia, Together We Prosper

* Government to make it easier for skilled/qualified people to get permanent residence status. Visa to be granted for family within 14 days.

* CSR Fund of RM100mil to be set to carry out social programmes.

* Tax breaks for registration of patents and copyrights.

* Big scale factory outlets to be set up to boost tourism besides having major events like KL Grand Prix Fest, National Water Festival, Malaysia International Golf Exhibition and Rain Forest Eco-Challenges

* Taxpayers will get tax relief on broadband subscription fee of up to RM500 from 2010 to 2012. Civil servants can apply for computer loans up to a maximum of RM5,000 from the govt once in every 5 years.

* RM6bil for agriculture sector for paddy fields irrigation, fish production, fruit farming, livestock farming infrastructure, training

* RM2bil subsidy for farmers and fishermen including subsidies for fertilisers, incentives for padi yields and allowances for fishermen

* RM9bil to finance infrastructure projects including road and bridges projects and rail, sea ports and airports facilities

* RM1.5bil fund to promote green technology by providing soft loans to companies that supply and use green technology

* RM200mil Creative Industry Fund to finance film, drama, music productions, animation, advertisements through Bank Simpanan Nasional

* In a bid to develop high quality human quality, RM30bil will be allocated to enhance primary and secondary education nationwide

* Rewards for students who excel in studies:

- 30 National Scholarships to the creme de la creme of students stictly based on merit

- Convert PTPTN loans to scholarships for students who graduate with 1st class honours degree, beginning from 2010,

- Offer a netbook package, including free broadband service, to university students for RM50 per month for 2 years.

* The Permata programme that emphasises early childcare and education, including the gifted child programme, will get RM100mil

* Insurance industry to be improved to meet market demand.

* Govt to clamp down on the abuses committed by Ah Longs by enforcing Anti-Money Laundering and Anti Terrorism Financing Act 2001. Moneylenders Act 1951 to be also reviewed.

* Allow 100% foreign equity participation in corporate finance and financial planning companies compared with the present requirement of at least 30% local shareholding.

* To ensure rapid development of financial services, the existing tax incentives to be extended to 2015.

* Among steps to combat corruption is to set up 14 Special Corruption Sessions Courts and 4 Special Corruption Appeal High Courts.

* Tax of 5% to be imposed on gains from the disposal of real property from Jan 1, 2010. Existing tax exemption will be retained for gifts between parent-child, husband-wife, grandparent-grandchild.

* To promote prudent spending, a service charge of RM50 a year to be imposed on each principal credit card and charge card; and RM25 a year on each supplementary card, effective from Jan 1, 2010.

* To ensure that fuel subsidies only benefit targeted groups, Govt will implement a fuel subsidy management system in early 2010, which will utilise the MyKad.

* All Ministries and govt departments are required to provide day care and education centres for children of civil servants.

* The maximum income tax rate for individuals to be reduced to 26% from assessment year 2010. Personal relief increased to RM9,000.

* Police force to get RM1bil to improve its services in govt's efforts to reduce crime. Major measures include to increase police presence, including mobile police stations in 50 crime hotspots.

* To promote house ownership, Govt will launch a scheme that enables EPF contributors to utilise current and future savings in Account 2.

* Employees' EPF contribution to be increased to 11% again, on a voluntary basis, effective immediately. However, from Jan 1, 2011 employees' EPF contribution will revert to 11%.

* Personal relief for EPF and life insurance schemes to be increased to RM7,000.

MMS Issues on iPhone 3G/3G[S]

Hi,

I've just observed a very weird phenomenon on both my iPhone 3G and 3G [S] and would like to check with the rest of the forummers here if this is something that's being faced by just me or it's an across the board issue.

Issue
When 3G is OFF, I am unable to send/receive any MMS.
When 3G is ON, I am able to send/receive MMS.

I've been asked to do a clean restore to my 3G [S] and will do so in a short while. Hopefully, everything will be back to order then. Will report back if it works but if anyone else is having this issue, it'll be good if U can report it here so I know I'm not facing this battle alone

Contract Promoters @ KL

Am looking for 8-10 full-time contract promoters to help promote Canon's latest product; Canonfoto - which is a photobook print service.

Job of the promoter will basically be to distribute flyers, to get people to buy the product as well as to teach people how to use the Canonfoto software & where needed to design a Canonfoto Album for customers (shortlisted candidates will need to go through a training session on the software; approximate 3hrs).

It will be a 6-day work week (whereby your schedules will be determined by us; and you will be required to work Fri/Sat/Sun) and you will be sent off to our established Canonfoto Authorised Agents (located in Klang Valley, mostly at malls).

As to salary, we are looking at RM1700 p/month [basic @ RM1500 + travel allowance @ RM200] with overriding commission for every Canonfoto Album sold & designed.

PC Fair Promoters @ KL

Am looking for some promoters to help promote Canon's latest product; Canonfoto - which is a photobook print service.

As to salary, we pay between RM120-150 depending on level of experience but there's no shift work - work hours are from 1030AM till closing of PC Fair.

Ok. There's just TOO many PMs to go through and I don't need THAT many promoters for this PC Fair. However, other than this PC Fair, I'm looking for 'long-term' promoters for other exhibitions and fairs that we may have in the near future [my current list of part-time promoters is exhausted because they're all having exams or busy!]

If you're interested to become our 'part time' promoter, you will need to come in for a 3-hour training session - as you will need to familiarise yourself with our Canonfoto software before we can send you out on roadshows and exhibitions.

Training will be held at Sunway Damansara, Wednesday (8 April, 2009) @ 10AM. For those who are interested, please PM me for contact details. We will pick our promoters for PC Fair immediately after the training; if you're not picked, you will still be on our list of 'part time' promoters (unless U fail terribly, which is really not possible!) -- as of now, we have a total of 8 slots to be filled.

Our salary for PC Fair has been revised to RM120 p/day with commission payable for every Canonfoto album sold - details will be given at briefing after the training for those who's been selected to work at PC Fair 2009.

Wifi Network Connection

Gurus,

I'd finally upgraded to Leopard and seem to be having some issues with Network Connection. I had no problems with wifi connection until I got into the office this morning.

As usual, I was prompted to put in the password and I did; but after a couple of seconds, I got a 'Connection Time Out' error. I tried resetting the password on the router in the office but it didn't work. I did however managed to get onto the Office Wifi when I disabled encryption.

Am now sitting in the midst of wires, figuring out what's wrong plus trying to put in my printer drivers; albeit needing to get a major report done and submitted by 4PM !!

Any help will be great as I can't be logging on through RJ45 all the time. And obviously I ain't about to disable encryption here. Also, what's gonna happen when I go outstation and need wifi?! *uGh*

Just wondering, how do u guys change the file/folder icons? I checked out the Help Section but I'm not able to select 'Copy' as per instructions.

What am I doing wrong? Or, could it be that I downloaded a set of icons which needs a 3rd party application to open? Can someone help me puhlleeeasse?! *grins*

SuperDrive Update 2.1

Hi people...

In the 2nd last software update, I believe I downloaded the 'SuperDrive Update 2.1' program. As usual, I just checked for software updates and just updated whatever that was written on it. Anyhow, ever since that update, I'd been getting this particular message each time I boot up my computer.

"No Updatable Devices Found". "No devices were found that requires this firmware update".

I checked and realised the message was coming from 'SuperDrive Update 2.1' and a quick spotlight search did show that I've got the SuperDrive Update 2.1 dmg file. Question is - is it OK for me to delete the DMG file so that i'll be rid of this 'notification' each time i boot up my pc? I've also tested and thus far, it doesn't seem as if there's anything wrong with my SuperDrive - as in, it works perfectly fine.

Any ideas / opinions puhlease?

I'd been trying to get my emails sent off since this morning but haven't been able to. Initially, I thought it's got something to do with my mail server and decided to just let it be till I got home [btw, I'm still able to receive mails, and my colleagues have been able to use their emails from their respective workstation].

Am trying again from home but this time, I'm getting this particular error message which I've absolutely NO idea what it means

"The server response was: Connection denied after dictionary attack". Am wondering if someone can help me out? I've like 20 urgent mails sitting in my outbox waiting to be sent since this morning *sniff sniff*

Windows to MAC - Should I?

Hi all,

I'm currently in the market for a new laptop and seriously need some advice. My main concern isn't the technical specifications, but more to reliability, stability and in the case of a MAC, its user-friendliness and ease of change from Windows to Mac.

As a 'loyal' PC-based user, I'm once again questioning my loyalty to Unc Bill. I have in the last 24 hours, gained some knowledge about MACs through some of the related threads here, esp the "MacBook/MacBook Pro Users" and through MAC 101 just so i won't come across to all you experts here as 'naive' or 'stupid'

My main concern is mostly the fact that I'm a TOTAL illiterate when it comes to MAC products hence would like to know how difficult it would be to get used to the new OS platform?

PS: I am aware that XP's runnable on the MB/MBPs through bootcamp [though i've no idea what bootcamp is *oops*] but let's leave that advanced topic for another time. For now, just provide me with whatever U think I should know.
