Error installing printer driver in Vista HPrem

i got myself a new Canon Pixma MX318 printer yesterday. i used their installer CD to install the printer drivers into my office laptop (running XP) without problems.

today i tried to install the printer drivers on to my home laptop running Vista Home Premium (licenced version). it kept getting errors saying it cannot install the drivers. i've tried disabling UAC, firewall and antivirus prior to retrying but it still won't work.

any ideas what's going on? and how to deal with it?
