hi all,

I've done a search on this topic, about what car u own and ur salary, but couldnt find a good thread that summarizes it. Basically what im interested in is if u r taking a car loan, how much r u paying per month, and ur monthly salary. there's no need to list ur salary as i believe it's personal to most of u out there.

im curious cos planning to get a car soon for my family. if u r not financing ur own car, pls dont vote, thx

Need to know how to do this

hi guys, i have a burning question on how to achieve the effect in this photo (by chenws, a medical doctor with excellent photography skills):

notice the center which is brighter than the rest? besides using lens vignetting function, which only darkens the borders, what other ways can i do it if i wanted to selectively brighten or darken a certain area? dodge and burn? anything else?

have a look at his website ChenWS to know more about his type of photography. the contrast and colours r so professionally executed (by photoshop i presume). and a lot of the main subjects in his photos r brighter than the darker background, HOW do u do this??

any sifu knows??

ok, planning to change car early next year. currently considering VW Golf GTI (MKV), Civic Type R (euro, not JDM), Lancer Ralliart and Impreza WRX sedan. they all cost about the same here in australia. which 1 would u prefer? just a snapshot:

Golf GTI:

2.0 litre Turbo FSI engine
Max power ---> 147kW @ 5100rpm
Max torque ---> 280Nm @ 1800-5000rpm
0-100km/hr ---> 7.2sec
Fuel consumption ---> 8.2L/100kms

Civic Type R:

2.0 litre DOHC i-VTEC engine
Max power ---> 148 kW @ 7800 rpm
Max torque ---> 193 Nm @ 5600 rpm
0-100km/hr ---> 6.6sec
Fuel consumption ---> 9.3L/100kms

Lancer Ralliart:

2.0 litre DOHC 16-valve Mivec Intercooled Turbocharged
Max power ---> 177kW @ 6000rpm
Max torque ---> 343Nm @ 4725rpm
0-100km/hr ---> ???
Fuel consumption ---> 10.0L/100kms

Subaru Impreza WRX sedan:

2.5 litre DOHC turbocharged with Active Valve Control System (AVCS)
Max power ---> 195kW @ 6000rpm
Max torque ---> 343Nm @ 4000rpm
0-100km/hr ---> 5.8sec
Fuel consumption ---> 10.4L/kms

i test drive type R and GTI already, but not Ralliart and WRX yet. what do u guys think? based on performance and design?

TV tuner

hi, i've just bought an external tv tuner. i plan to use it with my pc, which is about 1m away from my laptop. i've just found out that when im using the tv tuner with my laptop, with pc off, it works fine; but the signal quality declined tremendously when the pc is on, to a point where i cant watch anything on my laptop. same story when i try to use it on my pc, far fewer channels than using on my laptop alone (with pc off).

so i've come to a conclusion that my pc is interfering with the signal reception. i rent an apartment and there isnt other options other than moving my laptop or pc around my room. my question is, is it better to get a longer coaxial cable for the indoor antenna (dedicated antenna, not bundled with tv tuner) in order to move it further away from the pc (within my room), or is there any other way to improve the signal reception?

thx in advance

edit: btw, it's digital signal for HD TV viewing. is this the usual case with digital signal?? that it's easily affected by pc?? if so, then what's the point of using a tv tuner with a pc??
hi, my tamron 17-50 f2.8 canon mount just arrived today. the packaging was poor to start with... and guess what, there is a finger print which is not removable on the glass itself (the mount side), and small amount of dust at the other side. what puzzles me even more is that i thought this particular lens supposed to come with a hood also?! it wasnt included...

anyone out there using this lens?? pls let me know if this is normal. 1 thing for sure is it's not 100% new... wanna call the shop tmr and get a refund, instead of a replacement, cos totally lost trust in them...

the lens wasnt placed securely in the box, it was knocking up down left right...

MacBook Air stumps TSA agents, owner misses flight

QUOTE

Mon Mar 10, 2008 11:01AM EDT
MacBook Air stumps TSA (Transportation Security Administration) agents, owner misses flight

The suspiciously thin, port-free laptop sends airport security into a tizzy, until cooler heads prevail. Maybe it's time for some tech briefings at the TSA, no?

On his blog, programmer Michael Nygard (by way of the Unofficial Apple Weblog) writes that during a recent trip through the airport, his solid-state MacBook Air stopped TSA agents-puzzled by its lack of rear-facing ports or a standard hard drive-in their tracks.

Nygard said the agents put him and his suspicious "device" in a holding cubicle as security staffers huddled nearby, looking at X-ray printouts of the sinister-looking Air and scratching their heads.

A younger TSA agent-who, apparently, was aware of Apple's newest laptop-tried explaining to the group that the Air uses solid-state memory in place of a traditional hard drive. The senior staffer, however, was still reluctant to let it go: "New products on the market? They haven't been TSA approved. Probably shouldn't be permitted," Nygard writes.

Finally, after booting up the Air and running a program, the agents let Nygard go, he said-but only after he'd missed his flight.

I've been hearing stories like these all too often, which leads to the question: how exactly are TSA agents being trained, anyway? How about, I dunno, some regular briefings on the latest gadgets that might be making their way through security checkpoints? And while TSA agents are wasting time fussing with laptops, undercover investigators with bomb parts in their bags have been sailing though security checkpoints.

Anyone else out there get stopped by airport security because of a "suspicious" gadget in their luggage? Feel free to vent right here.

Source: yahoo.com

wtf...
