PDF thumbnail not showing anymore...

It was working a few days ago, but now suddenly I don't have thumbnails for
PDF's in windows explorer (vista sp1)

I have all the settings correct to see them as thumbnails since I see jpgs
as thumbnails for example so its not a setting in windows.

I have tried to uninstall and install acrobat 9.1 again and again as
administrator user of course, I have tried making it a default application
for pdfs again and again..

but NO GO!

there is a dll that does this thumbnail extraction called PDFShell.dll...

I even tried to register is from a command line as admin ( by right clicking
on the cmd in the start menu and selecting run as administrator) but I got
the message:

The module "PDFShell.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer
failed with the error code 0×80070005

WTF I am admin and I want to register the dll and I cant? This should not be
happening... I took a look at the registry permissions but they seem ok.. as
far as I can see...

I have no idea why this is not working.. this is so frustrating Im thinking
of formatting vista and reinstalling but its just too much work only for
this...

I use pdfs all the time and I want to see them via windows explorer....

any help..? I believe it has something to do with registry permissions, even
though I am an administrator

So when I click on a store link from a web browser it brings up an error in Firefox about the itms protocol not being associated with an application. You need permissions set to the following registry paths under

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\itms\shell\open\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\itmss\shell\open\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\itpc\shell\open\command

You may not see these as you reset permissions and have to go as far as adding a new key under each registry key, then it will show you your newly added key (just delete) and then set the appropriate permissions to administrators group on each until you get down to the "command" key.

Then once you are in the command key edit the following string that should show

C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe /url "%1"

and change it to...

"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /url "%1"

yes I know, ridiculous that it is a matter of quotes missing, but that is what fixed it for me.

The process is a little tedious but it will fix the problem.
U'll need to click the registry key and go to Edit -> Permission -> Advanced -> Owners -> Change owner to the current users
Then right click the key and go to permission and tick "Full Control" under Allow column
When moving from HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\itms to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\itms\shell to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\itms\shell\open etc
You need to right click \itms -> "New Key" to reveal the \shell then repeat the process above until you reach HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\itpc\shell\open\command and edit the string.

I would like to suggest mobile computing Q&A as the main forum instead of the current sub forum
Then create a "Laptop/PDA specific Discusssion" as a subforum, then move all the specific thread into it.
The concept is something like the Handphones & Communication section with the phone specific discussion where owners of a specific phone gathers.
This can be applied to all owners of a specific laptop.

This is suggested because everyday I see lots of thread being opened in the main forum of mobile computing and in the end all being moved to the Q&A sub-forum.

Nicely Wrapped Book in Book Store

How often do you come across a bookstore which keep all their books nicely wrapped?
You do not even have the chance of browsing through the book to see whether it's worth buying or not.
Popular bookstore in Penang area always have their books wrapped up nicely. As for Borders, they do not wrap their books and everyone is free to browse through it (except for the manga which is considered as collectable items).
So, have your say, do u think all the books should be wrapped up nicely so the public will not damage the books by browsing through it??
Or they should let everyone read it before buying ??

Double clicking media file does nothing

Ok here's the problem, when I want to open a media file - video, mp3 by double clicking it, windows media player won't open
Nothing happens after I double click it...
I've tried changing the file association setting in control panel and right click "Open with..." but still, double clicking it won't do anything
When I change the default program to VLC, it works when i double click the files.
Any idea what's happening here?
I'm using Vista Home Premium.

i suspect my dsl305ew is dead

when the modem is turned on, the power LED is on, then if a PC is connected to the router thru LAN cable, the LED will light up as well
but there's no light for the wireless, DSL and PPP LED as well...
tried to access the router through the PC connected by LAN, but limited connectivity, any idea what's wrong with it?
i suspect it's dead already...

I wanted to transfer some money to my friend's CIMB bank account through Maybank2u, but failed.
This is shown:

I wondered what happened? My limit to both 3rd party and interbank transfer is set at RM2,000 and the amount that I'm transferring is less than the limit. Any idea wat to do?
