Valkyria Chronicles

You'll be able to get your (North American) teeth into this feast of picturesque strategic action on November 14, with a demo hitting the PlayStation Network on October 9.

The official site is now live too, though Sega hasn't provided a URL and we're jiggered if we can find the thing. Apparently a new gameplay trailer will debut there today, so keep those peepers open. Here's a link to the product page to get you going.

As in Eternal Sonata, combat in Valkyria Chronicles is a mix of turn-based and real-time systems. The plot and setting are loosely inspired by 1930s Europe, albeit with rather more in the way of mini-skirts and stylised hair-dos.

source: PSU

TSB staff not honest

yesterday i went to TSB (software boutique) to buy an ori game. after discount, the lady there said the price was RM135 and so i paid without checking the receipt. As i was walking out the door, i took a look at the receipt and saw the price was actually RM134. So i walked back in and told the lady that i paid her RM1 extra. But she insisted, i paid her RM134. I kept on insisting I paid her RM135 and after a few minutes of arguing with me, she reluctantly paid me back RM1.

RM1 also they want to cheat you. She never even bothered to say sorry. How rude and dishonest this ori shop is. Like that I might as well go and buy from the pirates! It's not that I am hadap for RM1 but I don't like to be cheated by people like that lady. I advise anyone who goes there in the future to check their receipts properly before they add in another RM1 or RM10 to the actual amount you are suppose to pay. No wonder their branch in Ikano was closed down.

I just want some opinion on Warhammer : Mark of Chaos. I read on the internet about this game and almost everyone says it is a terrible game and you will waste your money if you buy it. Is this true? Is this game so bad? What do you guys think?

[addedon]April 14, 2007, 1:11 pm[/addedon]i just found out from a friend who bought the ori and he told me this games sucks so bad, that playing space invaders will be more worth your time. he also said the stupid ori package did not even come with a manual inside the box. instead they give you a lousy cd-rom with a pdf file and expect you to print your own manual!!!! 10 thumbs down!!!

Choppy sound with Battlefield 2142

My rig is a P4 3 Gig CPU, NVIDEA GeForce 6800 with 512K RAM and I am getting choppy sound when I play Battlefield 2142. My soundcard is a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 24-Bit. When I set the audio setting to hardware mode, the music is okay but the voices is choppy. But when I switch the audio setting back to software mode, there is no problem at all with the the sound and the voices is smooth. I am using the latest sound drivers and even with EAX disabled the voices is still choppy.

I am forced to play in software mode because of this problem. Is this a bug in the game or is it a hardware or software driver problem with my sound card which Creative Labs didn't bother to fix? Does anyone here with the same sound card as me have this problem?

TMnet confirms they are throttling P2P

for those who of you who still think tmnut don't throttle our BT speeds, this will put an end to all your doubts. I just spoke to a guy from TMnut CEO's office and he confirmed they are throttling all P2P traffic 24 hours everyday. He admitted to me that they are doing this because they are running out of bandwidth and also because of Lim Keng Yaek ordering them to improve their service due to a lot of people complaining to him about slow browsing speeds. He said they are aware of the situation and our speeds should return once TMnut add in more bandwidth by the end of the year. He says we have to bear with the slow speeds until TMnut acquires more bandwidth.

In response, I asked to pass some of my suggestions to their management. I suggested that TMnut don't throttle 24 hours a day because nobody is going to surf & chat 24 hours everyday and please have some consideration for P2P users like me who pay RM99 a month for the speed. I asked if TMnut can lift the throttle after midnight and give us our speed until 12 Noon. He said he understand because he also use P2P and it isn't fair to customers like me. Then I said why should I pay RM99 a month just to get slow dial-up speed? I might as well switch back to TMnet 1515 dial-up service if I wanted to surf & chat. I told him, if you want to be fair to all users then don't throttle 24 hours a day and lift the restrictions after midnight so guys like me can get what we are paying for. My last suggestion to him was to put up an official annoucement on TMnut's website so all of us can finally get the true story from TMnut and not waste our time speculating about throttling and waste our money calling their stupid CS all the time.

At the end he agreed to pass on all my comments and suggestions to TMnut's management and CEO. You guys are probably wondering why this Tmnut guy suddenly admit to me about P2P throttling? That's because I complained to CFM not once but twice about my slow speeds and on the second time they finally admitted they are indeed throttling all P2P traffic 24 hours everyday. I suggest all of you complain to CFM if you are not satisfied with the standard answer given to you by TMnut's CS staff.

Cyberjaya Server - The cause of BT slow speeds?

For awhile now, the Cyberjaya server seems to be having problems. If you do a bandwidth test using speedometer, you will always get SERVER ERROR everyday. I just called CS and the girl said Cyberjaya server is suffering from very high LATENCY problems and she don't know when those idiots technicians will be able to fix it.

Is our international gateway linked to the Cyberjaya server? Is this the root and cause of all our BT problems??? Anyone have any ideas???

The Bane Of All P2P Apps - DPI

QUOTE

Deep packet inspection (DPI) is a form of computer network packet filtering that examines the data part of a through-passing packet, searching for non-protocol compliance or predefined criteria to decide if the packet can pass. This is in contrast to shallow packet inspection (usually called just packet inspection) which just checks the header portion of a packet.

DPI devices have the ability to look at Layer 2 through Layer 7 of the OSI model. This includes headers and data protocol structures. The DPI will identify and classify the traffic based on a signature database and will allow the user to perform many things.

A classified packet can be redirected, marked/tagged (see QoS), blocked, rate limited, and of course, reported to a reporting agent in the network.

Many DPI devices also perform the ability to identify flows rather than a packet by packet analysis.

DPI allows phone and cable companies to "readily know the packets of information you are receiving online--from e-mail, to websites, to sharing of music, video and software downloads"[1] - as would a network analysis tool.

DPI is also increasingly being used in security devices to analyze flows, compare them against policy, and then treat the traffic appropriately (i.e., block, allow, rate limit, tag for priority, mirror to another device for more analysis or reporting).

This is probably what TMnut is using to throttle our torrents. It doesn't matter if you change ports or if your data is encrypted, DPI will know it is P2P traffic and block it. I can only hope BT client developers will find a fix to this thing.
Complain here if your Bittorrent download is SLOW!

I am still being throttled from 12PM to 12AM daily since September 11. Uploads and Downloads to international peers are almost non-existant. I am only able to download from local peers during peak hours. I have called CS many times and they always claim they are not doing traffic shaping or throttling our torrents. I think TMnut is lying like a bloody whore!

1. Watch your language when you post. This goes out to everyone else too.

2.
The reason why BITTORRENT speeds are SLOW

I just found out this bit of info you guys might be interested in regarding bittorrent speeds slowing down during 12PM to 12AM.

Quote:
http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/#1548206

Allot Communications, a company specializing in "intelligent IP service optimization solutions" has unveiled the newest feature built into its NetEnforcer device. The device is now capable of detecting encrypted BitTorrent traffic. ISPs using the NetEnforcer will now be able to throttle BitTorrent traffic more efficiently.

As P2PNet observes, many ISPs recently began shaping their network traffic to keep BitTorrent users from sucking up all of the available bandwidth -- in some cases, BitTorrent accounts for half of an ISP's traffic. However, BT users were quick to work around the ISP's detection schemes by using RC4 encryption. All of the major BitTorrent clients recently added the option to encode transfer files using RC4 encryption.

The NetEnforcer uses Allot's deep packet inspection technology "to identify and analyze hundreds of applications and protocols, track subscriber behavior, prioritize traffic and shape traffic flows."

Here's more from Allot's press release:
Quote:
Previously, companies have been able to detect and manage applications based on the BitTorrent peer-to-peer (P2P) file transfer protocol. However, detecting encrypted BitTorrent has been nearly impossible... Today, Allot is announcing that its NetEnforcer is the first broadband traffic management device to identify and help manage applications based on the encrypted BitTorrent P2P file transfer protocol.

TMnut is probably using this piece of software to cap our torrents during peak hours and that is also why RC4 encryption doesn't work anymore. Here's hoping the developers of Bittorrent clients will find a way to beat this NetEnforcer piece of shit very soon.
