budget home theater

looking for home theater system(without LCD/TV), for my friend moving into new house(within klang valley)

looking for 3 range.
1.RM800-RM1000
2.RM1000-RM1200
3.RM1200-RM1400

*DVD player optional <= i not sure, he might be using back old DVD player

the home theater(HT) will be use inside the room, square feet "no idea", should be small one

best if have place to test it out. so he can feel it 1st hand.

i'm don't have experience with HT. pls recommend/advise me

Lightning & Insurance claims

as you know malaysia well know lightning prune, i learn my lesson since 10years ago, by getting right stuff to protect right electronic equipment.

but still there is some of electronic equipment left unprotected or u never thought of getting fry

is not wise to buy "lightning surge/isolation" to cover every inch of house. even the best "lightning surge/isolation" there still 0.01-1% chance direct hit from lightning

previous i been told by someone, is possible to make claim PC/Notebook/Celling fan/Fridge/TV that fry by lightning.

but when i ask how to claim ? none of them seems to have a proper guide to make claim.

they even mention the claim would be very small, so it not wise to claim that was 5-7 year ago.

anyone have experience submit claim(household insurance) for electronic equipment, that fry by lightning ?

what the best insurance
-lenient policy
-can submit claim with/without receipt
-claim is fast less than 2-4 weeks

how they reimburse you
-check

if the electronic equipment can be repair, how to make a proper claim ? i'm very sure everyone is interested on this.

Need suggestion.

My friend have old PC P4 1.6Ghz with Win XP Home & Office 2000, she wanted upgrade. But the cost of upgrade = buy new PC.

She agree getting new MS Win XP Home Oem for new PC. But she would like to transfer existing license MS Office 2000 to new PC, possible ?

I have this motherboard BioStar 865GV Micro 478 with 2.4GHz P4. No BSOD/Error

1.The system will halt random, after booting into windows XP. 5-30min. When halt & restart PC, CPU temp always show 37-40C

2.Memtest86+ will stop at 4:05min(repeat few time & test another slot, stop exact time 4:05). The same ram test on another system, 25 pass and keep running. Confirm ram no problem.

3.SP2004, if select stress on CPU (entire windows xp freeze within 5-15min, KB/Mouse not function) & stress on memory only (no problem even after an hour)

4.If Prime Test under DOS from (Ultimated Boot CD), after an hour also no problem.

5.Swap working PSU, the system still halt random same as above 1.

6.HDD check another system confirm pass with flying color.

7.PAT is enable by default(Inside BIOS can't find way to disable it)

8.Using the built-in display.

9.Open side panel & use a Table fan blow direct to CPU & Motherboard. Does not solve the problem

10.I failed to fresh install windows XP. It halt in between copy file.

11.Only the motherboard & cpu can't be swap (no extra system, if got also latest 775)

So what most likely fault ? What i have miss out ?

How to Maximize the Throughput & Bandwidth from Rapidshare.

This is guide is design for Premium user. Since we are allocated 5GB per day. Why not fully utilized it
You might wonder why DL speed is not consistent, after reconnect with new IP. Great burst speed for a while, but slow all the way.
Base of my experience, throttle/shaping or routing cause slow download speed.

Routing
We all know TMnet have this range of IP.
60.48-60.54, 124.82, 218-219 *(sorry i lazy to listed out all)
By right we should be getting same speed no matter which IP range. But not for our ISP

each IP 60.48-60.54, 124.82, 218-219 have different route to Mirror#1 11 server & Mirror#2 8 server.
an example speed for Level(3)#1, Level(3)#4 = 100-200KB/s, Level(3)#2 = 10KB/s & Level(3)#3 = 50KB/s.

Workaround. Premium or Free a/c.
1. Pick any file large than 10MB size to download, you gone to re-use this link for different server.
2. Select a server from Level(3), Cogent, TeliaSonera, Teleglobe & GlobalCrossing.
3. Start monitor the download speed for 15-30sec, and cancel.
4. Jog down the download speed.
5. Repeat the same for other server.
6. You should have at least few server that provide good download speed constant 80KB/s-Max Speed.
Premium User
7. Login to yr RS a/c > options > select the server. for both Mirror#1 & Mirror#2
*most of the time I'm getting 150KB/s for single connection(no split). for the safe side, run 3 simultaneous jobs. average total speed = 170KB/s

Shaping/Throttle
So far i manage to identifies two type of throttle.
a. Single connection
b. Total throughput

*Server set Level(3)#1, will be using Flashget with 1 Thread/Split/Stream.
How to identifies which are which ?
Now you are download a single file and the download speed stay constant at 20KB/s. By increase the 4 split/thread/stream, the download speed should increase.

a. If the download speed increase >60KB/s and stay constant/forever, most likely you are throttle base at Single Connection
So by increase number of jobs(5) and split/thread/stream(3) by theory it should maximize the throughput. 100-200KB/s

b. If the download speed increase >60KB/s and stay for 15-30sec drop back to 20KB/s, the most likely throttle base at Total throughput
There is nothing you can do, just try different server or reconnect for better IP. Refer to the Routing

*Try increase number of job. If the total speed increase & stay forever you are on luck. (related bad routing) it happen sometimes.
*In theory increase number of jobs the total download speed should increase too. Flashget look at the bottom right for the total speed.
*Highly recommend increase number of jobs over split/thread.

I'm looking forward to upgrade my 8-port 10/100 switch.

Need person experience using 8-port Gigabit switch.

A = 10/100 base NIC
B = 10/100 base NIC
C = 10/100/1000 base NIC (Server, hosting video content)
D = 10/100/1000 base NIC
E = 10/100/1000 base NIC
F = 10/100/1000 base NIC
G = connect to 8-port 10/100Mbps or 4-port router 10/100Mbps
H = 10/100 base NIC connect to 8-port 10/100Mbps or 4-port router 10/100Mbps
*p2p = file transferring, most of the time, i will streaming video content room to room.

Does not suffer slowing down entire network to speed =>100Mbps speed, when A<-p2p->B, while other on 1000Mbps
1. A<-p2p->B & C<-p2p->D, the entire switch will fall back to =>100Mbps speed.
2. A<-p2p->E & C<-p2p->D, the entire switch will fall back to =>100Mbps speed.
3. C<-p2p->H & C<-p2p->B, the entire switch will fall back to =>100Mbps speed.
4. C<-p2p->D & E<-p2p->F, the entire switch will fall back to =>1000Mbps speed.

My budget is limited. Less than RM300 if possible.

3com & Billion

ADSL modem = Billion BiPAC 5112S
Wireless router = 3com 3CRWE554G72T

Recently Aztech modem not working. TMnet replace with Billion.

Now i having problem getting my Billion modem work with 3com wireless router.

I manage to access Billion thru 192.168.1.254 . Try soft n hard reset "It should switch to bridge mode" But my 3com still can't connect to internet. So i try change modem ip into 192.168.0.xxx ... still can't connect.

BTW my 3com is using 192.168.1.1 / 255.255.255.0

I'm sure the Billion modem is working, with my WinXP dialer.
