Laptop Recorders Jam/Gathering/Session

Ok guys..... to liven things up, I purpose a little experiment/challenge to all the Low Yat Musicians here.

What I purpose is to meet in a public area, say The Apartment or something, and then we all bring our laptops and whatever equipment needed to compose, perform and record and original composition.
With the easy availability of desktop recording, beat making, emulation on decently powerful laptops, I think this shouldn't be a problem whatsoever.
By say 2 or 3 hours time, we should be able to produce something that we can be proud of and be part of a great experiment.

So in order to speed things up, we shall put the cut off point at the end of August to have this session. I purpose 16th of August, 12pm at The Apartment at the Curve.

We each have to list down the equipment and software we are using that day, as well as what we specialize in I will start first:

Acer Gemstone 5920G with OS/X Leopard and Vista Dual boot

Epiphone Zakk Wylde Custom Les Paul

Software:
Adobe Audition 3.0

Promoting a new Moderator

Ok guys & gals.....

Since the sudden influx of activity in the musician's forum, I needed another Moderator to help me out with the forum as well as being a second person to comment on warnings, barrings and other summons. Our previous mod, TheWhacker, is now very caught up in the football forums, and we all know that's a full time job.

So, right now, I have nominated EchoBrainProject for the job.

Not only is he knowledgeable in guitar playing, he's also experienced in the field of Home Recording, Professional recording, acoustics, performing live and other areas as well.

So please give your comments if Echo should be a mod or not.

NAS Storage for Xbox360?

I plan on getting a big NAS storage for my Xbox360 network. So far, the NAS200 by Linksys looks promising. But does anybody know if this will be detected by the Xbox360? I've been searching google and yahoo and some say can, some say can't....... So really not sure.....

Anybody has any clues?

EL34 swapped with 6550 Power Tubes

Ok, as most of you know, I have a Marshall TSL 602 Tube Amp with 2x EL34 tubes in the Power Amp stage, and 4x ECC83 in the Pre-Amp stage.

I know that the 6550 has a much fatter sound and might get a bit more crunch out of them, but can I swap them in for the EL34? Or are there any other alternatives? I'm basically trying to get a much fatter crunch to my TSL602.

Amp experts, please advice. Thanks man!!!

2x IDE connector for P35

I'm planning to upgrade my dad's old computer (A socket 939 Athlon 2200+) to a new intel core 2 duo system.....
Looking to upgrade only the processor, ram and of course motherboard.

But I checked through a few manufacturer's website and can't find a motherboard that uses the p35 chipset and has 2 or more IDE connectors, as he uses about 2 IDE Hard drives.

My question is, do you know of any motherboard that has 2x IDE connectors? Even an nVidia 650i chipset also ok with me, but budget is maximum RM550

[WTA] Sound Card for Laptop with Optical Out

I have at home a Yamaha RX-V459 Receiver and a Toshiba Regza 47" LCD at home and just bought an Acer Gemstone with HDMI out.....
I hooked up my Laptop to the Toshiba Regza via HDMI and the sound is decent, but would want to use the full power of my Receiver to deliver sweet sweet 5.1 surround sound as well......

Which sound card for a laptop supports Optical out to use with my Receiver? Best if it's an Xpress card solution rather then USB..... I checked out the X-FI portable for laptop, but it only has the Optical mini jack......

Help please? Thank you!
