Rex
Gov't Mule
Eagles Of Death Metal
Grand Funk Railroad
Megadeth

RAMMSTEIN? CHILDREN OF BODOM? IRON MAIDEN? MEGADETH? JEFF BECK? A PERFECT CIRCLE?

Hells yeah!!!!!!!

The rest of the info:

Guitar Hero 5 is a music video game and the fifth main entry in the Guitar Hero series. The game will be developed by Neversoft and published by RedOctane and Activision. It is expected to be released on September 1, 2009.

Similar to the preceding title, Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero 5 is geared towards playing in a four-person band experience, including lead and bass guitar, drums, and vocals. New features have been added to the game from World Tour.

Gameplay in Guitar Hero 5 will be similar to that from World Tour. However, this version of the game will allow up to four players to any combination of instruments, including multiples of the same type. Two new features have been announced for the game. The first is a "Party Play" mode, which allows for players to jump in into a band or drop out even in the middle of a song, and switch instruments or difficulty levels while playing. The second feature is a "RockFest" mode, which can be played by four players locally or eight online, with several sub-modes that influence how the game is played. For example, in the "Momentum" mode, the game adjusts the difficulty of the note track based on how well the player is playing, with more points rewarded by staying at the "Expert" difficulty. Other sub-modes of RockFest include "Elimination" in which the worst player is dropped periodically, "Perfectionist" where only certain sections of a song count towards points, "Do-or-Die" which forces a player to wait a brief time if they miss a note, and "Streakers" that rewards the player for long strings of consecutive notes. A new play mechanic called "Band Moments" will require all members of the band to play sections of a song successfully to gain rewards, both in scoring and visual effects on screen. The Band Revival meter will appear when a player fails out of the song, requiring the other band members to play well as a group together in order to bring the failed player back into the game.

The Music Studio feature, which allows players to create their own songs and distribute them through the "GHTunes" music service will also be improved.

Photography competition help

My company is thinking of holding an online photography competition near the end of the year for one of our event. The problem is, I have no idea where to begin.

Right now, all we have is that users will snap the photo, upload it to our website via email, and then we'll have a judge come in to decide the winner.

Some one told me and I quote, "the golden principle of holding such a competition is that you musn't take away the rights of the photographer. some contests claim rights to all submisisons, and that sucks."

Main problem is that the company wants to use the photos later on and don't really want to pay royalty fees and such for the photos.....

Is there any solution that will have both sides happy? any comments or things you can suggest? Thanks guys!

The Pedal Board v2

Ok, since we are having lots of repeats of questions about effects and pedalboards and multi-effects, it's best to just post them all here.

The best way for a beginner to start with effects is a small Multi-FX unit.
The Zoom G2.1u is recommended, solely because they have a wide variety of effects and amp simulations, have an expression pedal (for Whammy, Volume control or other settings), goes for a reasonable price considering it's features (around Rm 500) and the most important, have a USB connection to record to your PC. Downside is that the sounds are very digital and the casing is prone to breakage. If you don't need the recording an expression pedal, you can get the Zoom G2 for around RM310.

Then if you want to move to the big leagues, the main choices for a Multifx are:

Vox Tonelab SE - Great amp modelling, uses a tube for the poweramp, little lacking on the effects side, can't use OD/DS with a Wah at the same time
Boss GT-8, GT-10 - Great overall effects + modelling, navigation quite hard
POD LiveX3 - Great overall effects + Amp simulation, easy navigation, recording through USB, some mid-gain amp models doesn't translate very well.
Zoom 9.2tt - Twin Tube, dual expression pedals, loads of effects, USB recording, sounds are very digital compared to the other mfxs, very fragile.

Overall, the price ranges from about RM1200 (for the Tonelab) up to around 1.8 for the POD or GT-10.

I haven't include the Digitech ones because I haven't tested them personally, so maybe somebody can comment on this.

Moving on....... if you already played with multi-effects and really KNOW what you want, it's maybe time to move into single pedals.

The few major brands that are easily available in KL are:
BOSS (Still the most popular and affordable ones with a VERY wide range of effects)
Jim Dunlop/MXR (very high quality and very high price)
Digitech (Has everything from low-range prices to high end prices, some still sound very digital)
Electro-Harmonix (Like digitech, has low-range and high end, some of the best sounding ones too)
Danelectro (Dirt cheap, but quality of built & tone might not compare to the more expensive ones)

Of course, there are a million other brands, but these 5 pops into my head first. Again, if you have any more, please comment on these on this thread.

The general rule of your signal chain are:

Volume --> Overdrive pedal --> Distortion Pedal --> Chorus/Delay/Flange --> Noise Gate
Volume --> EQ --> Overdrive pedal --> Distortion Pedal --> Chorus/Delay/Flange --> Noise Gate
Volume --> Overdrive pedal --> EQ --> Distortion Pedal --> Chorus/Delay/Flange --> Noise Gate

Of course, you can mix and match to whatever sounds best in your opinion..... but these are just a general rule of thumb.

Hope that helps and keep more advice, reviews and suggestions coming!!! Right now, if anyone can post up a short FAQ on buying Pedal Boards and/or power supplies would be a great help. Thanks.

Also, all other effects threads will be closed on sight and redirected here unless you can PM me or another Mod a valid reason for having your thread up.

Dj Hero

http://www.djhero.com/

Quoted from Gamespot:

As part of its record-setting earnings report last month, Activision Blizzard confirmed that it was releasing DJ Hero this year. In a conference call with analysts, executives said that the Guitar Hero spin-off would be specifically hitting the Nintendo Wii and "a variety of platforms." Other than to express their enthusiasm, they declined to get more specific.

NOTE: Derrick Carter, Carl Cox, and Mix Master Mike not included.

Today, though, Activision launched a teaser site for DJ Hero, which is rumored to feature a turntable peripheral similar to Guitar Hero's simulated instrument. Though it offers no new announcements, the site features official logos that reconfirm the Wii edition and reveal that the game is coming to the Xbox 360. The presence of an Xbox Live logo indicates that it will also have an online component of some kind.

Finally, the presence of the PlayStation logo indicates that the game will arrive for at least one of Sony's two consoles currently on the market. A PlayStation 3 version is all but assured, given that Activision has publically aired doubts about releasing new games for the PlayStation 2. In the same conference call referenced above, executives said that their continued support of the aging console--which was released in late 2000--is contingent on Sony cutting its price. Currently, the PS2 sells for $129.99 in North America.

Notably absent on the DJ Hero site are logos for the PC, DS, or the PSP, which has its own dedicated logo. Guitar Hero III was ported to the PC (and Mac) by Asypr in 2007, but no further series installments have been released for home computers. And though Activision has never released a rhythm game for the PSP, a DS DJ Hero is a possibility, given the wild popularity of Guitar Hero: On Tour and its sequel, Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades.

Beatmania was one of my favorite games when it first comes out. Hopefully it will get rid of the "keyboard" layout and focusing more on the turntables/mixer. I can already see Mix Master Mike, DJ Jazzy Jeff and DJ Q-Bert as the "heroes"!!!

Continuing from V1 here:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/164815

It's a little messy, so if you can put up ONLY the prices now, we can keep it more manageable.
Apple Retail Shop w/ On-site setup

Hey there..... I'm checking this out for an uncle of mine.
Basically want to buy a 24" iMac with all options included, but would want some place that can setup the mac at his house, get his WiFi working with the PC, basically pointing him the way to the power switch and get it running in the comfort of his own house.
He is a busy man and wants someone, preferably their own technician to set it up at his house.

I tried Machines in Gardens, and was very pissed off with their snooty salesperson (if you're reading this, you know who you are) and he basically lost a 10k sale today.
Would Epicentre provide better service or anyone else you can think of? Again, he doesn't mind paying a small fee for the tech's trouble.

Thanks ya!

Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits

Activision announces their plans for the Guitar Hero franchise:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6204559.html

Activision readying compilation of full-band versions of tracks from older Guitar Hero games; third offering on Nintendo's handheld by year's end.

To date, the biggest Guitar Hero game of 2009 has been Guitar Hero: Metallica, the first full-band installment in the series to be based on a single group. However, a subsequent installment in the series may very well contain tracks from Guitar Hero: Aerosmith--the first band-focused GH game--which use more than just a virtual six-stringer.

Speaking with analysts in a conference call today, Activision Publishing CEO and president Mike Griffith announced that the publisher will be releasing "a separate Greatest Hits compilation Guitar Hero game that includes full band versions [of previously released songs]." Though no specific titles were mentioned, the Greatest Hits will likely draw on all prior titles in the Guitar Hero series, which began with the eponymous 2005 original game for the PlayStation 2.

Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii before the end of 2009. The year will also see the release of a third Guitar Hero game for the DS, following last year's Guitar Hero: On Tour--the top third-party title for the platform--and its sequel Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades. Activision did not say if the new GH DS game's peripheral would use the GBA slot, which is not present in the forthcoming DSi model.

Greatest Hits and the new Guitar Hero DS game will also be joined by DJ Hero, which will arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii sometime in 2009.

List what songs you want in Greatest Hits and see if it comes true........

I vote for Full Band Through The Fire And The Flames!!!!!!!!!!

Why wasn't there a thread for Brütal Legend yet???!!!

Quote from wikipedia:

Brutal Legend (usually styled as Brütal Legend) is an action adventure game under development by Double Fine Productions and published by Electronic Arts for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is the second game from Double Fine Productions, following the critically-acclaimed Psychonauts. The game was announced by Game Informer magazine in their November 2007 issue and will star Jack Black.

A CGI trailer advertising Brutal Legend was made available on October 16, 2007, introducing the main plot device in the game as well as demonstrating a variety of action sequences. A high-definition (720p) version of the trailer was made available on October 19, 2007

On July 29, 2008, it was announced that Activision had opted not to pick up Brutal Legend from Vivendi Games's portfolio as a result of the Activision-Blizzard merger. On December 12, 2008, it was announced that Electronic Arts would publish the game in the 3rd quarter of 2009.

A Heavy metal adventure game staring Jack Black? With Ronnie James F'ing Dio, Lemmy Kilmeister and Rob Halford???!!!! DESIGNED BY TIM SCHAFER, the creator of Monkey Island!!!???!!!!

Sign me up!!!!

Sequel is headed our way soon!!!!!

From what I can see, is that we're going to progress maybe 10 years later, as the "little sisters" looks to be in their teenage years.

Really really really looking forward to going back to Rapture.
