So anyone noticed better ping to US servers?

Hi playstation brotherhood! It's been a while now since I'm posting in this again. Since my ps3 is now dead I've not been playing for quite some time . Its body is safely preserved in the box now. I'll get to repairing it or buy a new one soon I guess, been busy with my life lulz.

I'm wondering if any of you guys noticed better ping to US now that there's this new undersea fibre optic cable linking directly to the US since 10th november. How's the modern warfare/killzun 2/other games ping rates to the US servers now?

QUOTE

The new Asia-America Gateway (AAG) undersea fiber optic cable between Southeast Asia and the United States will be commercially available starting tomorrow.

The US500 million project is lead by TM plus 18 parties including AT&T Inc., Bayan, Bharti, BT Global Network Services, CAT Telecom, ETPI, FPT Telecom, the Government of Brunei Darussalam, PT Indosat, PLDT, Saigon Postel Corporation, StarHub, Telcotech, TELKOM Indonesia, Telstra, TNZL, Viettel, and VNPT.

This is the first submarine cable system linking Southeast Asia directly to the United States. It will connect 10 locations in eight countries across the Asia Pacific region, namely Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, Guam and Hawaii with the US West Coast.

The 20,000 kilometre-long cable system is free from natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis and will have a capacity of 480 Gigabits per second. If you experience faster Internet speed and less buffering on Youtube during the past few months on Streamyx, now you know why.

Sauce

My PS3 40GB SG Set disassembly attempt

Alright, followed djwhetzel, gilksy and one other guy who has a 40 GB PS3 and now I'm stuck at the last part before I get to the CPU. I want to replace the thermal compound on the Cell and RSX chip.

It seems My 40GB SG PS3 is completely different from ALL of them at the last metal chassis. There doesn't seem to be any way to open up the metal heatsink, except for some very tiny black plastic circular tabs (which I daresay impossible to open) which seem to be holding it in place. You can see this and compare with the guide from djwhetzel and gilksy from youtube. It's different at this point. Any technicians who happen to be able to help me?

You can see there's a screw here on the heatsink which I just can't get to.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Even just a link to a guide showing how to disassemble the same heatsink layout would be more than enough.

[addedon]July 19, 2009, 3:00 am[/addedon]in any case, I reassembled the ps3 back. It's working again (phew!) I hope it doesn't crash anymore. At least I managed to clean the big fan inside with isopropyl alchohol 70%.

AMD promises DirectX 11 by 2009

AMD has confirmed rumors that it is working on DirectX 11, announcing at CEATEC that it plans to release its first DirectX 11-compatible GPUs in 2009. The company also predicted an increase in general purpose computing on GPUs (GPGPU) and a transition to a 40nm fabricating standard, which ought to give graphics chip performance rates a considerable boost. In layman terms: Things are about to get a lot bigger and a lot prettier.
Questions regarding online purchases

With interest regarding to online purchases, there's something I've been wondering. When we had to create a US PSN account in order to download some demos exclusive to the US PSN store, we had to provide a random US address during the registration process.

1. How will this (the random fake addresss) affect us when we decide to use that account to add funds to our wallet, with either PSN card or online credit card?

2. Do those debit cards that let you reload money into it and is accepted as Mastercard be able to used inside the US PSN store? PSN Store accepts mastercard.

3. If we reload in RM , is the funds automagically converted to US dollar when we pay?

Selamat Hari Raya

C++ VS C

Currently I am tasked with learning the C programming language. However, I currently have a book on C++ with me. My question is

Would it be feasible to proceed with learning C++ first and then going on to C? How big a transition do I have to do in order to understand C after learning C++?

Googling and wikipedia-ing C and C++ didn't give me a satisfactory answer.

Sony have announced that, on March 6, Japan will get a "Satin Silver" PS3. Retailing for ¥39,980 (USD$374), it's the standard 40GB setup, and of course the bundled DualShock 3 will be in silver as well. Looks pretty classy! I've got the satin silver PS2, and it's stood the test of time quite well. Only thing left to do now is for Western fans of colour variation to wonder out loud why Japan's on its third colour scheme while we're still (for the mean time) on our first. Presser follows.

Source: Kotaku

Heheh... now the white isn't the only "limited edition" ps3.

Playstation Eye Headtracking Tech

QUOTE

Sony Computer Entertainment America programmer Thomas Miller has pulled a Johnny Lee, throwing together a working demonstration of head tracking virtual reality on the PlayStation 3 using the PlayStation Eye, a filter made from exposed and developed film, and a pair of cobbled together infrared glasses. Using the filter to block out all light but infrared, the PlayStation Eye can track the location of the light coming from the glasses, moving the viewpoint according to the position of the beam. The results are pretty damn amazing - pretty much a WiiMote for your face. The potential for this sort of technology for console gaming is near endless, from simple menu navigation to full on head tracking for an FPS title. Miller has uploaded the tech so PS3 programmers can fool around with it. Hopefully some enterprising developer will pick up this ball and run with it. Awesome stuff.

It has been done with the Wii before, but now it's possible with the Playstation 3 as well. I thought it was only possible with the Wii's hardware but now, with the higher processing power of the PS3 added with this head tracking technology..... Imagine playing Resistance 2 or Killzone 2 with this.
a newbie wishing to do some webpage

Well my dad asked me to build a website for him regarding his hobby, birdwatching. He does not want any of the free web domains like geocities, blogspot etc. He wants his own domain name as a .com. I've been looking at some of the local web hosting sites and currently I am considering exabyte's xtudent plan which is about 1GB for RM 99 a year.

1. Is the pricing reasonable?

2. Would using a CMS like joomla or wordpress be wise for such an application or should I just build it with words and save it as a html file?

3. If any of the methods above aren't practical, what would be your suggestion?

Any help regarding the matter would be very much appreciated, thanks.

ping rate of 1300ms to TMnet gateway

Broadband provider
ISP/package: home/512k
Location: Bandar Utama
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Yes

Personal equipment
Modem: Aztech DSL305EW
Router: DSL305EW
Firewall used: Windows Firewall

Problem details
First occurence of problem: Yesterday after rain
Problem frequency: often
Problem description: High latency between gateway to TMnet, as well as to overseas website and local malaysian Teamfortress 2 servers, singapore, and other neighbouring countries.

Read the excellent guide at the pinned topic already. I called up TMnet this morning and they cant confirm when this can be fixed . Is there anything extra that I can do? I use a wireless router that also serves as a DSL modem. Websites load fine enough but I really need the low latency to local servers for my online gaming (Teamfortress 2).What used to be <150ms now gives me 1300ms ping ping to isp.tm.net.my gives 1200ms ping. Gateway latency is described in my topic. My SNR margin is 32.4dB with 27.7 dB line attenuation. Typical IPs assigned are 219.95, 219.94, 208.xx.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Ok here's the thing, my pc is password protected at the windows xp login screen, my usb keyboard freezes when entering the login screen, but during startup works.

I can't login! It's damn irritating to be denied access to your own beloved pc

I tried connecting a different ps/2 keyboard and still the same thing happens. Entering safe mode doesn't work either since keyboard ALSO freezes there. WTF man! Then I tried entering from remote desktop from this pc via my home LAN network but I can't even ping to the pc, request timed out. I am at my wit's end here. Please Help!
