BEWARE! Don't Buy From Freshgear...

I thought all you should know this. Here is a report from my friend who had really terrible experience with Freshgear.

---------------------------------------

The story youīre about to read, will tell you in detail how I lost my money, my time and my patience with Freshgear. And how Freshgear repeatedly treated me in totally unacceptable ways, avoided their responsibility and just gave the worst possible overall customer experience.

Just so anyone out there wouldn't have similar experience, I want to share my experience that I had with Freshgear over past 18 months. Itīs enough how badly Iīve suffered, and really wouldnīt want anyone else to go through even half of what Iīve gone through with Freshgear.

I bought a Holux GPSmile 51 Car Navigator from Freshgear in july 2006 shortly after they started selling it. Price was RM1,935 After I started using it, I immediately realized that there was something wrong with it. Sometimes when I would go for a drive, I would time it and see how long it took to get activated, and it was up to 15 minutes. Not much of an navigator if you canīt even get the signal running. Weather didnīt seem to have anything to do with the problem.

On top of this, it would freeze regularly in middle of use. Again, highly unwanted īfeatureī in a GPS navigator. And as if all this wasnīt enough, more than once it refused to return any results for location searches. This happened even with locations that would turn out in the results on other times.

Frustrated and disappointed, I brought my machine to service. Freshgear returned after weeks of waiting. To my surprise, all the same problems were there from the first time I turned it on after getting it back from the service. As Iīm very busy, and travel quite a bit due to my work schedule, it took me some time before I got it back to īserviceī again. This time I also offered Freshgear a change to replace it with newer model all together, which was RM500 cheaper than the price I had paid for my GPS. I even offered to pay RM500 extra if they would switch it for. I was already tired with all the hassle, and just wanted a working GPS. They offered to give me a RM200 discount for the new model, thatīs all. So again, I left the my GPS, which had never really worked so far, for them to send to service.

This time Freshgear gave me a used replacement for the time being. After waiting for 2 months and not hearing anything from Freshgear, I contacted them myself. I was told that it will take some time to fix my unit, they told me that the receiver has to be changed. As months passed by, every time I called, they had another excuse. Finally after 8 months, they told me that I should call directly to the distributor of Holux. The number they gave, never seemed to have anyone answering it. So again, I was left without any hope.

Yesterday, I went personally to the Freshgear outlet in Lowyat and told them that this is enough, I want my machine back in full working order, or it replaced with a new model. They promised to take care of it and took my phone number.

Today, I receive a call in which they propose to me that they can offer the new model to me at RM1,100, giving me discount of some RM200?! After all this, the best they can do is offer me a discount of a machine that is 30% cheaper than the one I bought from them 18 months ago and that never worked properly. I obviously told him to re-conceder and call me again when he can offer something that makes at least some sense.

He calls back after 15 minutes. Here is the discussion:

Freshgear: So you bought the machine more than 1 year ago?

Me: Yes I did

Freshgear: So that means we don't need to take care of this anymore. Itīs more than one year already

Me: Are you kidding me? You had my machine for more than a year already, and you wasted my time so much too. And now you're trying to tell me that itīs more than one year already.

(there is a momentarily silence)

Freshgear: But we replaced your gadget (gps) with a new one

Me: No you didnīt, you replaced it with a used unit that had exactly the same problems as the one I brought in for service. For which reason I havenīt used it at all. In other words, I been 1 year without any GPS

Freshgear: We replaced your gadget with a new one

Me: (Me starting to get seriously frustrated) No you didnīt, you replaced it with a used unit that you had in a drawer in your store. It didnīt even have a box and it had scratches and all

Freshgear: My boss says, we replaced your gadget with a new one

Me: You're seriously making me upset here, Iīll say this one more time, It was a used unit and it had exactly the same problems as the one I brought to you for service and which you never has returned to me

Freshgear: How do you know we didnīt give you new unit

Me: cause it wasnīt coming from a box and it had scratches on it. It clearly was a unit that had been used a lot. And even if you had given me what, the unit is still not working and the one you still have is mine. I'm holding here a receipt with a serial number on it.

Freshgear: We replaced your gadget with a new one

Me: NO!

Freshgear: How can you know

-phone call went on like this for a while. As you can see, there was very little that phone call had to do with common sense so I figure itīs not worth even trying to understand-

Shortly after this, the salesperson hanged up the phone.

As a conclusion, company that treats even one customer like this should not be allowed to run their business. Especially when that customer has repeatedly give them options to make it all ok.

I have a lot of guests from other countries visiting me and I always bring them to Lowyat to do their shopping. After this experience, I'm not so sure anymore. Itīs really sad how one store can ruin the reputation of a whole place. The worst thing is that now I have to go through the hassle of complaining to the consumer bureau and the Lowyat management, so I still have to suffer more and I still donīt have a working GPS.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

Mikko
