D2 viper vs D2 Boa Review

I m lucky enuf to have 2 unit of D2 with me, here's the impression on both.
D2 viper is fully run in and D2 Boa runned around 20 hours, Thus the sound can be alot more better after fully run in
just to give the technical differences, D2 viper is charged through Ac but D2 Boa is charged through USB, thus D2 Boa is double efficiency on power saving

Ruthie Henshall - Songbird (795k)
D2 boa have clearly better separation on the special 2 layer vocal of the songs. but due to short period of burn in, the vocal still abit rough, i m sure that it will goes well after run in, but i found that it give more power to the piano. it is more lively. As for D2 viper, it have smoothen sound, but less response on low frequency, when the songs going to end, the separation on viper seens to be abit mixed. i m very impressed by D2 Boa on this songs as it have less electric input, but even strong on low frequency response, with better separation on this songs.

Elissa Lee Koljonen - O mio Babbino caro
D2 viper having warmer singatuer, D2 Boa has brighter signature at this moment, it might due to run in hours as it is only 20 hours now. In this songs, D2 viper having smoothen sound, which give better feels as for the warm enjoyment feelings, D2 Boa give better thickness on instrument, but abit harsh due to its bright, with the enhanced separations, it give you lively and involved feels and thus less on Relax sound. I prefer the Viper here, as for warmer sounds

Diana Krall - I've Changed my address
In my opinion. this song is extremely hard to tune, D2 Boa more aggressive signature which compare to Viper Layback. both 2 are not to the extreme, but just no minor position differences, it is not like Grado vs Sennheiser There is some instrument solo at the middle on the songs, D2 Boa clearly wins on the this parts as for its aggressive, separated sound, the instrument sound more accurate, however, viper giving more transparent feels, as for more relax feels as for the layback signatures, but slightly slow in the response make it sound abit lag. I can concluded that, it have different feels on both, there is not clear winner on this songs

Jim Keltner & Ron tutt - Drum Improvisation
D2 Boa is a clear winner here, it have better speed, and deeper in drum impacts, D2 viper sounded like a sleeping drum, which give me unexcited feels on the drum, unlike D2 Boa, with the better separations, u can clearly feels the differences on the strength that the drummer had, The speed is more accurate without any delayed, and you can feels the shape of the drum.

Karen Kong - Li Dao
D2 Boa have thicker vocal, but D2 viper had better vocal response, i assume D2 boa will have the same response after burn in, with more pounchy sound. D2 Viper give better control on high but less extension. I will not concluded which is bettter here, as this is more towards a balances songs, with no extreme here.

The Spirit of Gambo - Martin Minoit au Marche
The performance on this songs is quite similar, this might due to the limitation on my headphone as i clearly understand that HD580 do not performed well on high frequency, i canot define well on this songs, just that, the extension on viper is more control, but Boa go further high when compare to viper, this might arise as for brighter sound for unfinished burned in.

Chloe - Vincent ( Live version)
D2 Boa is a clear winner here, the vocal is very refined, even it only have 20 hours of burn in, it present the vocal in better position, not only the thickness of vocal, it is more real, more real, just like what she is singing in front of you, this might constructed by alot of issues, speed, defined, thick and etc. D2 Viper having blurer vocal, D2 Boa is a clear winner here .

F.I.R. - Blue Doors Ahead
D2 Boa having bigger soundstage here, but D2 Viper having clearer presentation on soundstage, personally i prefer D2 viper one even it is abit more narrow, but it give better transparency, which i dont feels any EQ here, but i will think that alot of the users will prefer wider soundstage, i m the extreme here, which i shall not concluded it might affected due to my personal preferences

Finally it reached to the end, i m very impressed on the sound of D2 Boa, even it is not fully runned in, some parts of it have significantly better than D2 viper , but as a D2 viper owner here, i proud to own Viper as well, as it give me good enjoyment. D2 Boa is sold at RM550, with this unbelievable prices, i will think that there is hardly any portable DAC can beat the sound of it with this attractive prices

here come with some pictures

Govibe Magnum

review from head-fi
Build quality
Seeing as how this unit is a prototype, the finish is flat black and nothing is as "finished" as how it will be when sold as finished product. But, even as it sits, I actually REALLY LIKE the matte finish with silver lettering. But as it sits, it's pretty nice.

Ergonomics
Since the amp is a little bigger than the Petite(about the size of a Hornet), the jacks are far enough apart from each other where you can use whatever you want, as there's sufficient room. Unlike on the Petite, for the input, you were limited to smaller/thinner plugs.

The gain switch on the front is pretty neato. It's a LITTLE close to the power switch, but nothing bothersome, just something that's noted. The bass dial is what's neato. You don't have another knob to bulk things up, it's a dial, and works great, no feeling of clutter, considering the amp is so small...and unlike some amps out there, the gain switch doesn't seem to affect SQ. It doesn't push the limits of it's batteries and voltage swing, lol. It keeps things realistic.

Also, the Magnum has a wallwart, unlike the Petite. My batteries actually died when hooked up via USB when I was playing music for a couple hours, so I don't think there is a USB charging circuit. If there is, it's probably just not implemented on my proto. But it's right under the USB port, and there's no clutter, great location.

Treble
Wow, they're crisp AND smooth. The iQube and Voyager are the only amps that best this little box. Unsure of the modifications to the circuitry to implement the bassknob and gain switch, but this amp is a LARGE step up from the already good Petite. It has no harshness, or unruly jagged edges, just smooth tone. It does however, sound a LITTLE on the dry end of the spectrum, but still very well controlled and extended.

Midrange
FORWARD is what best describes this range. With Grados, it gives you a VERY forward feeling. I think it adds the right amount to DT770's to lessen the "dreaded" recessed midrange. And like the treble, it has a tad bit of a dry sound. Women vocals are VERY nice on this amp. It synergizes best with DT770's and my Grado's though...

Bass
Having an adjustable bass knob on this makes it very nice. I like ebing able to tailor my bass. I don't like EQ, but I like to fine tune the bass if I'm able to. The bass with it all the way down sounds VERY close to a Hornet's bass. With it up, it sounds like an LisaIII's bass. It has a SMOOTH organic sound. Also, the bass knob is very similar to the LISAIII in that it doesn't really do A TON, rather, it accentuates it. No bloat at all here. I actually like to listen with it at about 50%. The bass lacks the LAST BIT of oomph and depth that the Diablo, iQube and Voyager have, but it's nothing HUGELY noticeable, but coming directly off of those, you'll notice.

Neutrality
Here's where this amp exceeds. Its somewhat dry and clean sound doesn't do ANYTHING to the sound coming out of it. With the bass knob off, it's SQ reminds me of the Indigo DJ. It has a DEAD NEUTRAL, sterile sound. Although, not as sterile as the DJ, it's still fairly flat. But, IMO, it's not quite as engaging with no bass added when using Grados.

DAC section
It doesn't lose a bit of punch or anything when plugged in via USB. Also, I had it plugged in the wallwart and there was still nothing added hiss or hum wise. The DAC is actually pretty damn respectable. Although it's no match for a dedicated DAC, it does a GREAT job none the less, and I'm now debating bringing my Keces unit with me to Vegas for the simple fact it's another unit I need to carry for my 6 week trip...however, I probably will bring it anyways for the hotel room, lol.

In Summary
I feel this amp is a GREAT buy. The bass knob makes things great for bassheads, and if bass isn't your thing, don't use it. Again, no bloat, just SMOOTH accentuated bass when using the dial.

It's a SMALL amp, so portability is awesome. It doesn't have the problem of the petite where the jacks are too close, so it makes it even better for me since alot of the plugs I have are larger than the neutriks that would only fit on the Petite. Since I work out of town, I HATED bringing my Keces unit and hooking it up, only to unhook it at the end of the week. I hated having the horrible SQ out of the HP jack on my laptop....now I have a good solution/middle ground.

The amp is definitely step up from the Petite, in all respects. It doesn't have the warmth the Petite has, but I feel the cleaner sound, the addition of the wallwart, and bass knob make for a better amp.

4. pls do noticed that i no longer compare the separation, positioning, soundstage, extension, impactness, as when u reach higher end, there will not be any headphone that sound better than the other, it already involved greater music listening experiments, i would say every higher end headphone having difference signature, so it just depend, which one suit u better

alrite, the last HERO was the Darth Beyer, this is the headphone which modded from Beyer DT770, it was 80ohm, which was quite easy to drive, but extremely hard to amp however, the sound was so....so....so.....good, i do not really appreciate when u just to wan listen soft music on darth, it performed extremely well on live, as quote from sony statement, u wont feels u are wearing an headphone, the involvement of live feelings was the best here, i dont know how it do that, but it seriously remove all the small small noise on concert, and make it real live in front on you, the soundstage was unlimited wide. and it just like, u are in the hell damn high concert.

if u wan to rate all this headphone, as for my personal reference, without any offenses.

as for soft music
HD580>MS2>Darth

as for rock music
MS2>Darth>HD580

as for live concert performances
darth>MS2>HD580

as for pop(Chinese, English)
MS2=Darth>HD580

but i love my HD580 Initial burn in with lower volume without an amp. A portable player can do this well. Loud volume wont do good to the burn in.

iBasso D1 Portable USB DAC/AMP combo

iBasso portable DAC/AMP combo D1 is a high performance mobile audio solution. It is a Self powered DAC and Hi-Definition headphone amplifier with many input options, which includes digital inputs from optical, coaxial, USB, and analog input from AUX IN/OUT. It not only works as DAC/AMP combo, but also works as a stand-alone AMP, DAC, or USB soundcard.

The DAC function in the small D1 is as good as some full size DAC. D1 has PCM2906 made by Texas Instruments to convert USB into S/PDIF signal. It uses CS8416 as a DA-receiver chip, which is known as a best DA-receiver chip, and has sampling rate from 32 to 192 KHz ability. The D/A chip is CS4398, to convert the signal to analog signal, up to 24bit/192KHz. It is Cirrus Logic's top of the line product and used in lot of high end equipments. The USB-DAC function in D1 is standout. It is a perfect gift for your computer. In the amplification part, D1 has op AD823 + BUF two NE5532 structure to ensure high quality music playback with 6dB gain. Also, there is DIP sockets design for opamp rolling.

D1 has its dedicated MCU (Micro Controller Unit) to manager its inputs, outputs, and functions. This is an innovation on Portable DAC or Amp device. When D1 is turned on, the MCU will automatically search the inputs one by one, in sequence of (1st optical, 2nd coaxial, 3rd USB, and 4th AUX IN/OUT). Then, let the locked inputting signal goes to the chips for decoding or amplification, and the MCU will turn into sleep status at the same time. Benefit from the MCU, the port AUX IN/OUT on the front panel can have multi-function. When there is S/PDIF signal inputting, this port is Line Out, otherwise, it is Line In.

Other than the DAC and AMP design, D1 still has many standout features. D1 has two built-in 2000mAh rechargeable Li-ion batteries. Even for the high power consumption DAC and AMP design, D1 still can work approximate to 20 hours for the combo, or 40 hours for the stand-alone amplification. D1 has built-in current and charge management chip to protect batteries, and have fast charger ability. Only 5 hours is needed to charge the 2000 mAh batteries. Low voltage indicator technology, power lamp will flash when the battery needs to be charged. Also, D1 has high quality aluminum case with 4mm thick front panel, countersinking, and laser printing.

The following are some main specifications of D1.
- PCM2906, convert USB into a S/PDIF signal
- CS8416, DA-receiver chip
- CS4398, D/A chip, one of Cirrus Logic's Flagship Chips
- OP+BUF structure for amplification, AD823+Two NE5532
- Dedicated MCU (Micro Controller Unit) to manager inputs, outputs, and functions.
- Flexible input and output compatibility.
Mylarone XB vs Mylarone X3

I think u guys might confused what is the differences of Mylarone XB(M2) and Mylarone x3(M3), so i open up this thread for discussion and reviews of it.

Lots of guys ask me about the differences, here it is, this is my simple reviews and i m coming to explain wat is the potentials of both IEM and etc.

First of it, M2 is more on bass, where a lot of people might said "i don't like bass so should i get M3", the answer i can give u is "NO", actually comparing this two is not fairs and both of them having different sound signatures, it is like comparing HD600 and HD650, it is jz which kind of sound signatures u liked, M2 is full of potentials, while it is unamped, the details of the music do loss to M3( but the details of it wins all multimedia IEM anytime), however, the bass is definitely better than M3 even it is unamped, the drums was superb in M2. on the other hands, M3 do handle better in vocals sound and it is more on warms signatures. the sound stages for M3 is wide. whereas M2 handle go in druming sound and its vocals is more forwards where it has brighter signatures, but not as bright as M1. People might feels M2 can only handle rock/pop music, it is NOT, it can handle classical, jazz song as well.as for M2, it performed so much better after amped, the bass is tight with optimum quantity, the greater amounts musics details, greater sound stages after amped, that's y i said it is full of potentials.

The M3 might becomes better after amped as well, if u guys been to jaben, u would c there is an beyer amp there and most ppl test the mylar over that amp, and i was there to test it with classical songs, how shock m i where we(walabies and me) found that M3,M2 can becomes so much better, so called "full potentials", the obvious improvements of pairing an amps can be found in M2 but not M3, M3 users should know if u amp M3, the sound will becomes weirds and u might not like tat kind of sound, i have same impression until yesterday auditioned, it is so much so much nicer, u canot imagine how wide the soundstages is, how separate the seperations is, thus i got my conclusion that M3 can be amped but only decent one.

M3:if u wan to amped it, u have to find some very DECENT and optimums amp(or else u wont found the differences after amped), but my recommendation is not to amped it as it can performs up to 85% without pairing with an amps, jz plug in with ur players and enjoy the warm/relax signatures.

M2:it is full of potentials and u can amped it with any amps and u can easily find the differences of it, the soundstages, separations, transparency changes, and it do performs well in rock/pop songs with best outlook/design among 3.u can get the excitement on the slightly brighter signatures.

hope my simple reviews helps

Initial burn in with lower volume without an amp. A portable player can do this well. Loud volume wont do good to the burn in.
