Sugar Glider Diet & Nutrition 101

The gliders diet has been debated in many foreign forums and I thought I would like to get everyone's input here on LYN. I personally feel that a glider's diet is rather complicated and there are many things that we can still learn from each other.

The reason I have opened a new thread for this is because sometimes when forumers ask about a glider's diet in the main thread, it gets lost in all the spamming. There is a thread on dogs' diet, so I thought we could have one on gliders.

Also, it would make it easier for newbies to learn about the gliders' diet.

This thread is meant purely for healthy serious discussions and feedback. Please do not flame anyone or spam this thread.

For a start, I'd like to share what I have read up on the many recommended diets in the market. Personally, I have only tried two of them but if you have tried others, please do share here.

There is also the SunCoast diet but I decided to omit that as the ingredients used is non-halal.

Currently, all these diets are not independent, meaning you would still need to feed fruits, veges and insects.

I have tried the BML and all three of my gliders have been on trial with the HPW Diet for over a month now as I have read great reviews about it. The odour has certainly lessened! But at the end of the day, we each have our preferred diets.

There are so many glider owners here and it would be great if we could all share the pros and cons of each diet. Also, does everyone here feed according to the correct Ca:P ratio? If so, it would be nice if you could share the combination of fruits to make the right ratio, taking into account oxalates, of course Or do you feed according to what your gliders like?

Nail Trimmer for Little Critters

I think most would agree that the Sugar Glider's sharp little nails can be a bit rough on human skin! How many of you have had the red spots and scratches to prove it?

The Nail-O-Matic is a running track insert that files your glider's nails automatically as they run in a Wodent Wheel. The Nail-O-Matic is easy to use! Just slide it into your existing Wodent Wheel and watch your gliders have loads of fun as they Zoom 'N Groom their nails.

Another lesser known problem of sugar glider nails getting too long is the injuries they can cause. Gliders can easily get hung up on some of the products sold for sugar gliders. It is vitally important that you keep your gliders' nails well groomed not only for your own enjoyment, but for their own safety as well!

Most gliders don't like to have their nails trimmed and most humans don't like to trim glider nails. Trimming is a tricky proposition. If you go too short you risk hitting the quick and causing the glider to bleed. Also, too short nails can inhibit a glider's ability to hold on to your clothing or toys.

The Nail-O-Matic is designed with a smooth platform grid to protect little suggie pads from the abrasive surface underneath. A super fine grade abrasive material is used so that the nails are filed down slowly during use.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Nail-O-Matic is not intended to be a replacement for a regular Wodent Wheel. The nail grooming surface should be used for NO MORE than TWO nights straight. Excessive use will cause the nails to become too short and will disable your sugar glider from normal climbing activity - if they are gliding to an object, they will not be able to grab on tightly and will fall to the floor risking injury. IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU USE THIS PRODUCT AS INTENDED. WE CAN GUARANTEE THAT MISUSE OR OVERUSE WILL BE DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR SUGAR GLIDER! My friend lost his male pomeranian in Sri Petaling on the 18th of November. If anyone has found him, please do let me know.

The dog has asthma and a serious heart condition. He requires medication - if not, he could die. The owners are missing him dreadfully and are willing to give a reward to anyone who finds him.
