FOSS.my 2009 is Malaysia’s premier Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) event. FOSS.my 2009 is our second such conference, we aim for this to be an annual event bringing together professionals and enthusiasts from Malaysia, Singapore, Asia and the rest of the world for a two day grassroots driven FOSS conference.

FOSS.my is different from other events in that we focus only on FOSS and that this conference is purely non-commercial. There will be no marketing/sales talks by vendors (we are very strict on this!) so all that is presented is FOSS goodness! Instead, vendors will be encouraged to speak on the FOSS technical aspects of their projects/tools. This approach works better as it benefits all through knowledge sharing within the community.

The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) is a non-profit organization geared to provide professional certification for the Linux Community. This would be an excellent opportunity for working professionals, students and interested individuals to get certified at a low cost.

Date of certification exam: 15th March 2008
Proctor: Dr. Nah Soo Hoe
Cost: RM 200 per paper
Length of examination: 90 minutes
Deadline for registration and payment: 13th February 2008

To register for the certification, send an email to ditesh@gathani.org and include the following information:

1. Full Name
2. NRIC Number
3. Contact Number
4. Certification exam you wish to take

Available exams include LPIC 101, LPIC 102, LPIC 201 and LPIC 202.

Anybody implemented the OOXML spec successfully?

Has anybody implemented the OOXML specification successfully?

The OOXML specification stands at over 6000 pages and technical commentary made on the specification so far has indicated some technical issues that should be addressed in the next few months.

Has anybody to date implemented OOXML either completely or a portion of it in your software project? If so, what were your experiences implementing the specification? Which areas in the specification would you highlight as requiring attention and improvement? How did the OOXML specification compare against the ODF standard from a technical standpoint?

I would also be interested in knowing whether your implementation of the OOXML specification was done with the use of existing OOXML libraries or did your team build the necessary infrastructure to read, write and manipulate OOXML files successfully?
