Previously have attempted a weight loss journal on Blogger and the like but because of lack of accountability .. it tended not to work much.

I've had some successes over the years but have never been able to reach the ultimate goal .. so it's been about 7 - 8 years running where I keep wanting to lose the weight! How embarrassing!

The program
I have a gym membership but don't really go there any more - joined because my college was near to it (this was many moons ago, like more than half a decade!). I may restart again - but finding time after work will be sticky since I live pretty far away.

I work out at home since I have most of the equipment - treadmill, bike, step, dumbell, barbell, stability ball etc. Plus a bunch of workout DVDs - kickboxing, strength etc. The latter is what I'll be focusing mostly on. Especially the workouts by Jari Love (strength) .. apparently after 20 workouts you're supposed to see major difference.

Also have to admit that I haven't had a real workout in weeks or months .. oops! I am though somewhat athletic so think I have pretty good muscle memory and endurance anyways so starting up again is not about being unable to do it but more like plain old laziness/tiredness/excuses.

That's a long intro .. anyway would appreciate all your wonderful advice and encouragement to help me through this process. Thank you.

REWARDS!!!

10 lbs down (low 160s, 162-163)
- <s>iPod Nano, Nike+, shoes</s> **DONE!**

20 lbs down (low 150s aka 152)
- Cell phone

30 lbs down (low 140s aka 142)
- Espresso machine

40 lbs down (low 130s aka 132)
- New clothing

50 lbs down (low 120s aka 122)
- Bikini trip!

Milestone (estimates)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Start - 19 Mar - 172 lbs

<s>mid-Apr -- 168 lbs
mid-May -- 164 lbs</s>
mid-Jun -- 160 lbs
mid-Jul -- 156 lbs ** pre-2003 gain
mid-Aug -- 152 lbs
mid-Sep -- 148 lbs **pre-2000 gain
mid-Oct -- 144 lbs
mid-Nov -- 140 lbs
mid-Dec -- 136 lbs **teen/swim days (never under 135, after 12)

mid-Jan -- 132 lbs
mid-Feb -- 128 lbs
mid-Mar -- 124 lbs
mid-Apr -- 120 lbs

Belkin Wireless G Router + streamyx

ISP/package: Streamyx
Modem: Billion (?) - came from Streamyx
Router: Belkin Wireless G Plus Router

Purchased the router this morning, and been trying to set it up since then.

I've tried setting it as PPPoE but it sets the internet status as "No Connection".

When I set it as "Dynamic IP" it says "Connected" - but there is no 'net connection in actuality. What do I set for "Host Name" for this?
A better camera

I'm currently using an Ixus 55 for about a year, but I find it lacking. Not sure what to get after this - because I essentially wasted about RM 1.5k on this camera .. and don't want it to happen again.

1. Is it worth it to get SLR (?) instead of a standard point and shoot cam even if you're an amateur photog?

2. It needs to have a remote, that allows me to take pictures on-the-fly and not using a timer-type thing only.

Please help!

Move to new casing

Hi,

Have an old PC, which we upgraded recently because it kept dying. Found out it's an dead PSU, but could not find an available PSU. Purchased a new casing over the weekend.

The old system was an Acer Veriton 9100. Purchased in mid-2001.

#1 - The original motherboard (from a 2001 Acer) has a bar at the back - where the USB, PS/2, sound etc. jacks are in the back. In the original case, it was so it could be fixed flush against the back and held in with one bolt. In the new case this is not possible.

My only options are to either force it to fit - it's not tough and does not cause any unnecessary strain. The screws line up so I can screw it all in. The only thing is that once I do this, the motherboard does not work (no power). I then found out that maybe it's being shorted from one of the connections, so then I decided to try it outside. It works.

I tried a few different combinations but every time I screw it in .. it does not work. Could the screws be causing this?

Currently they're just hanging off from the 4 heatsink screws and it's placed inside - where the wires for the USB mouse, for example, goes in a little bit. I removed that whole rectangle completely because the ports did not fit with what was on the casing. There's a huge opening in the back - so dust & such can go in .. will that be problematic? Should I just use a makeshift cover out of paper?

#2 - Another problem with the heatsink is that, if you align these 4 (for the heatsink), the holes on the motherboard do not align with the holes on the backplate/casing. I know it's an old PC (motherboard) and should be thrown away but for the purposes I need, it should be fine. I'd like to make it work.

Can I find bolts that will keep the heatsink in place but not touch the bottom part of the casing? Are there heatsinks that don't use that kind of connection - 2 x black plastic bars with silver tabs on the top (horrible to remove)?

#3 - From the front of the casing, there are loads of these little wires (2-pin, 1-pin especially). They're for the headphones/USB I'm presuming but I can't seem to find out where/how to plug them in without screwing things up. I managed to get the power switch one (based on the old PC) but the new ones don't have similar labelling (or similar # of pins).

I'll make a list of all of these later (there's almost 20 of them, it seems) and hope someone can help me out with these. There's things like RIN, DATA-1, DATA-2 etc.

Is it really necessary to put all of them in? Or just ones for the USB?

I'm only using this PC for basic things like wordprocessing and it's mostly for practice (to see whether I can get it working etc). Have another PC down the hall for other things.

I'd rather not spend more money than I already have on this (like a new motherboard, RAM, CPU etc) so would appreciate all the technical assistance.

Thank you.
