Auto Shut Down

dudes, i dunno what happened to my pc
i thought it was malware etc
but i dont think so cuz my Bitdefender 10 detected nothing
i even checked the screen saver > power management settings to ensure the pc is not turned off at any rate

however, after few hours (say 5-6 hours) of idleness, the pc will shut down
why eh?
its not reboot k?
i thought its hardware but if its hardware, then most probably the pc wont boot or wont even stay that long
and sometimes the pc does stay for a long time but at most times it auto shuts

any ideas?

dude, i have a Lenovo iThinkpad r60 and currently the touchpad is down
i dunno what happened but i suspect its the ithink vantage program
still, whenever i boot into windows, there'll be this message
*the touchpad is disabled by Bios. Enable through bios or thinkpad configuration utility*
tried in the Bios - nada
tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ithink vantage program - nada

so any ideas dudes?
could it be hardware? i think its software and the lenovo program is or had already disabled the touchpad

ke bende lain?
how do i know if its software or hardware?
im thinking of installing or formatting the whole thing tapi takut its not worth the while and later on kalau the problem is hardware

i know this is an old card but i still sayang the card
havent used the card for so long
and after i found out the fan was faulty, and that some of the ramsinks already fallen off,i changed the fan to Evercool Turbo 2 (followed standard procedures...cleaned the TIM and reapply the Evercool stock one, and everything la)
was planning to put into my stupid old office CPU (motherboard is I815E which translates to AGP4x support je)
luckily my old GPU can 8x/4x

moving on, i installed the card and everything booted
and during boot up, ade la artifacts...like purple lines all over
tapi the pc tak hang nor any blue screen pun (i left the pc for 4 hours cuz i went outside for a meeting) and the pc ok je
another sad news is that the latest nvidia drivers tak recognize the GPU as nvidia card...

how eh?
susah la camni...
i dont wanna buy a new card cuz i still sayang this card and that i dont wanna use it for gaming pun
just to increase browsing speed at my office

oh yeah, FYI last time i used it (last year), it was still ok
will update a picture of the GPU in minutes time
maybe u guys cud suggest anything amiss

What do u guys think if the future gaming is for consoles only?
i mean whats gonna happen to us enthusiasts and the computer industry...PC GAMES shaped the pc industry dont u think so...
all those technologies in the CPU from single core to multi core, from 8mb to 1TB HDD, from larger die to nano die build...

shucks eh? its not like PS3 or PS4 or PS5 or maybe XBox is going to have all the fun with games like Half Life or Universe At WAR or Unreal Tournament
i played fall of men on PS3 and i'd say it sucks to play first person shooter where its really hard to strafe and shoot when my hands are not free to shoot and move at the same time althoug the game was great if only i could a keyboard and a mouse to play with it.

any comments?

just got one Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3870 512mb DDR4 from forumer Devilman
haha
he sold it at a good price
anyways, the end of the PCB (at the edge side of the 6pin connector) is a lil bit chipped
but i dont think it should be a problem i guess

but, whatever it is, the pc starts giving out artifacts
and this is not in windows, but artifacts during POST & even in Bios

devilman had offered to help but since im gonna be overseas from friday onwards till next sunday, this will remain a thorn in my mind...haha
but i just wanna know what else could be the issue here?
the artifacts got so bad that in logon screen, u see greenish hollows or icy splash screens and red lines

what do u think?
when there's less artifacts, i can get into windows
and checked the temps which was around 80-85c idle
but i could only check once cuz the next time i entered GPU-Z, the system hangs
and in ati tool and ati tray tool, under the Fan tab, it said no hardware supported

any ideas?
could it be the heat?
or the heatsink moved and loose?
Devilman tested the card at imbi and it was ok

ladies and gentleman of the humble forum
i have this nagging question

among all of university colleagues whom were interviewed by Petronas for a seat as their legal exec, i was the only one who went through to the 3rd interview by far (others were not informed or rather were asked to wait as the management for the HR for the legal department was changed)
anyway, the final interview is next week and im just quite afraid as there will be tests and stuffs...but that is not what matters

the thing is, i have gotten an offer from University of Queensland (currently in the top 40 in the world and in Australia's G8) to do International Trade there
as i just recently graduate (my final exam finished early april), i think i still have the knack to study

however, i still have petronas to consider
and masters
and PTPTN

what do u think?
i could defer the offer by UQ to next year although i am yet to find a solid reason for that
im thinking of working but my mind is not ready
everyone around me are of different approach
some thought work will not wait what more with the global financial crisis now
some thought that with LLM in International Trade, i could even work in better environment overseas
i wanna work overseas and i already highlighted my interest in international law to Petronas during my early interviews
but i dunno if i ever gonna reach that stage...that is working under petronas overseas....

what do u think

i got a problem
yesterday, i oc'ed my FX-60 from 2.6 to 2.8
however, as i was running Prime 95 25.6, i watched my ASUS Probe II upscaling from idle temp of 61c to 70c
upon reaching 70c, prime95 stopped due to hardware error (Fan already 1700rpm)
anyway, i tot my AC MX-2 shucks but it turned out that i should have changed my Thermaltake Golden Orb II instead

now, i want a really good HSF (i hate watercooling cuz i dont wanna mess my place up with rads etc) for my FX-60 setup
any ideas for that budget
it can both be first or second hand

i asked around in the foreign forums (guru3d, pcstats, techpowerup, planetamd) they said some of the best products include

i) scythe ninja 1000 or 1100 rev.B
ii) Zalman cnps9700 (but over budget)
iii) T.right IFX-14 (over budget)
iv) T.Right Ultima 90i (some give good and some say its bad)
v) XP-90C

Vista Business Problems - AGAIN

after almost one year with vista, here i am typing this
Vista had been both a problem and a boon for me

before i go on, im from KL and here's my system specs

CPU - AMD ATHLON FX-60 2.60ghz (939)
RAM - 3GB
GPU - 2x 1950PRO (Crossfire Mode)
Motherboard - ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe
PSU - FSP 600W + Booster X3 (300w)
HDD - 400gb SATA II
2x 80gb Sata 1
OS - MS Windows Vista Business 32bit

I bought my windows at least somewhere in May 2007. Even back then there had been problems. But let me just lay down the most latest which have been disturbing me and the IT guys i've known so far.

1) There's this problem with windows upon booting. After i entered my password on logon, the screen becomes black as if my monitor is not connected to the GPU (after a while the lights on my monitor blinks - not connected). Its puzzling because if its connected why is it like that? And, in that state, i thought windows booted and that maybe there's a connection problem. Alas, my red LED just blared which of course signified windows hanged. the only remedy is to reboot.

2) If u look at my specs above, obviously the specs are for gaming right? However this windows is really problematic when it comes to gaming. Firstly, any games with "GAMES FOR WINDOWS" title is a taboo cuz after installation, the game will hang upon start. e.g., Gears of War or Shadowrun. when you double click the icon, the game enters and the developers and publishers name will appear right? WRONG!!! Im stuck at either with a black screen and the Red LED lights stopped blinking (HDD stopped reading) or the system hangs at the first sight of the publisher's name or image. Whats that? To this day, i can never play this game on this pc.
However, it does not stop there. Now, its happening to other games as well. Right now, i installed Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Universe At War: Earth Assault and The Club. All these games, when i double click, the same thing as above recurred. That is, for rainbow six, upon the image of Ubisoft appeared, the system hangs. For universe at war and the club, as Sega appears, the system hangs.
I thought it was hardware. BUT Counter Strike Source or other games like Hour of Victory of Command & Conquer 3 can run smoothly. Crysis can also run. Why is this? I have no idea whats going on. I dont think its hardware cuz if it is, the system would have stopped working upon booting.

3) BSOD. of course this is normal thing for me.

4) when windows shut down, there will be that screen showing updates are installing. However, once the system hangs there. So, i reboot and on logon, there appeared the message saying updates are bein g installed e.g. 1 of 3, 0% completed. but it never completes. the message appears for say 20 seconds or so, then straight to password. So, did the updates installed or not?

5) Programs failed to run.
To me this is normal as well. Sometimes, BITDEFENDER 10 just stopped running. I have no idea why. the message appeared and i pressed close. however, i can still scan viruses and update etc. what is wrong with the system? at times, when it stops running, of course BITDEFENDER just turned gray and i cannot close it.

6) Auto-reboot randomly. Another normal thing for me...

So, then i ask, if hardware is not the issue, what else.

a) Virus?
i do not think so. last time, whenever i passed logon, the windows will load everything and the system will hang. however, i discovered that it was a worm. So, i took out the HDD and scanned. only 1 virus was found by both NOD32 / Kaspersky. so now it should be ok. I run virus scan every day at 2am through BITDEFENDER and Defrag every 7 days. So, i dont think its malware effects cuz some things can run some things cannot.

b) Windows?
this is definite. I have set aside another 2 hdd with XP and Ultimate in them installed using the same specs. I will swap XP / Ultimate to test the hardware. Of course, when i swap, any HDD with OS i take it out just to avoid conflicts. Seriously, nothing of the same occured in XP or Ultimate. They ran games smoothly at max reso etc etc. The reason i do not use them is because most of my stuffs especially games, work and others are in the Business OS (to which i regretted buying). Plus, i got XP and Ultimate as pirated la while i personally bought Business. Of course im gonna use business.

So guys, any help. For your information, I updated everything to the latest.

Please help me. Oh yeah. Just another note. My other friends whom were using Pirated Windows NEVER at all experience all this either using Premium, Business or Ultimate. And when i contacted microsoft, they could not offer any help. They told me to call this and that number but with that much problem im having, i dont think its better to speak through the phone. Im thinking of just buying those pirated stuffs and play. Im seriously out of ideas. The HDD for Ultimate and XP are already in NAS system and i dont wish to take them out anyways. and i dont think SP1 is of any help later.
