some intel speedstep problems with my vostro

ok, i hv speedstep enabled in the bios (A07)......but why won't it work properly in windows? I use cpu-z to check my cpu speed....and here r the problems:

1. if I turn on my laptop directly from the battery (no AC), then the cpu speed will be at approx 2.0 GHz...however if i first boot from AC, enter windows and plug out the adapter, then the cpu speed will go down to approx 1.2 GHz....so, how to make the cpu speed at 1.2 GHz even when i turn it on directly from using the battery?

2. before I did a repair of windows xp using my windows CD, the cpu speed cud go down to approx 800MHz, and 1.2GHz when it was in heavy use...why?

Scoliosis

Hi all,

I have a friend who's having scoliosis. Her backbone is bent like 'S' shape, with the convexity towards the left. According to Wikipedia, if it's towards the left, it's called levoscoliosis, I think. Here's a portion of her scanned X-ray photo (attached).

She said she was born with it, and recently, after she went to her doc to find out more about it, she said the doctor said something like "thoraco-lumbar scoliosis".

So, guys and gals of lowyat, how to treat this scoliosis? And how to not worsen the situation? And any other advices and info would be deeply appreciated.

Slow in Linux Fast in Windows, why?

I'm dual-booting openSUSE 10.3 and Windows XP....and my broadband ISP is Winet. Ever since I switched to Winet, my internet connection has been horribly slow in Linux, but in Windows, everything's fine. I've disabled ipv6 for my Linux, so it's not ipv6 problem. Now, this is not specific to openSUSE, I've tried it in other distros, like PCLinuxOS, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, and they're all juz the same with slow internet connection.

Actually, I've asked before some questions regarding Winet, when I tried to setup a Web server with my Linux, but I could only set it up, couldn't let it be accessed via the net with other comps elsewhere, coz even if I opened my port 80 in my router, Winet's probably behind one shared IP address and ports are being blocked there.

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=594646&hl=WInet

And just recently, I've asked another question...it's about the same question about the same problem I'm asking in this thread.

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/660146

I thought that those at the Linux & Open Source Software section might know how to solve it. Well, thanks in advance for helping.

Linux & Winet

Broadband provider
ISP/package: Winet / single user (RM50 per month)
Location: Butterworth, Penang
Have you called your ISP's helpline?: Don't think they'll know how solve it, as this is Linux-related.

Personal equipment
Modem: Edimax Wireless Broadband Router
Router: Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G
Firewall used: openSUSE 10.3 built-in firewall

Problem details
First occurence of problem: Ever since I started using Winet.
Problem frequency: All the time, every single second.
Problem description: Only happens when I use Linux. Terribly slow when doing stuff that requires the internet connection, especially surfing the Web. However when I use Windows (I set up a dual-boot system) to surf the Web and do anything that requires the internet connection, it's fast and normal. Nothing to do with ipv6 on my Linux, as I had already disabled it. Last time, before I switched to Winet, I used Streamyx to surf the Web with my Linux, it was okay, fast and normal. Now I switched to Winet, it's almost impossible to surf the Web. I could only surf Google's website normally. Only.
Linux distro: openSUSE 10.3

hyper-sensitive nose inherited from dad...

every morning after I wake up from my sleep, I'd sneeze for quite a while....

then my nose would start to get watery...it would keep running...the liquid would keep flowing...for like...the whole day...wif a liquid-flowing, blocked nose...unless if i get up and run here run there...jump jump jump....move about....then do some exercise till i perspire and my whole body gets wet....then my nose would calm down for a while.......

then after i sit down quietly for a while......i would feel that the liquid in my nose might or might not start flowing again....if it starts to flow, i might feel like i wanna sneeze again...then if i try to tolerate from sneezing, my nose would be blocked...if i sneeze, more liquid would flow out...and i would hv to clean my nose and blow out all the fluid...but of course, not all will be blown out.....

after i do that, then i'd sit down quietly again, then if i dun sneeze, the liquid will keep flowing....but to either one side of my nose or another....so in the end i'd feel one side of my nose really "light" and the other side blocked and "heavy" which is filled with the fluid.......

now, if i lean towards the side which is "heavy" the fluid in my nose would eventually flow out....and in the process, i might feel a little bit...or very itchy in my nose.....then i might start to sneeze.....so i had no choice but to sit crooked one side...towards the "light" side of my nose so that the liquid in my nose on the "heavy" side would flow to the "light" side...

it's very very uncomfortable and i've been like this for almost 9 years.....i inherited this from my dad....he's ok now...but my situation's worse...

so, guys n gals, let's hear what u ppl hv to say bout this.........how to cure my nose?

which university / college (preferably private)?

hi all,

i've decided to go for electrical & electronics engineering after my SPM. I'm waiting for the results currently, and I'm expecting to get about 7 or probably 8 As (hopefully more than that)...

so, what i would like to ask here is, which local college or local university (preferably private) is the best for electrical & electroncis engineering, or just electroncis engineering? (P.S. aiming to be a professional engineer with the Ir. title)

btw, what's the difference between "electrical & electronics engineering" and just "electronics engineering"? which one is better?

Is anybody using winet here? (www.winet.com.my)

I'm trying to setup a http server using a winet connection. I've opened the port 80 on my edimax router. After I run my http server, I tried to access my server from another comp outside my own network by typing in the external IP in a web browser, but the page failed to load.

Is winet, by any chance, blocking port 80?

Btw, is it possible to setup a http server on a winet connection?

Are there any other ports blocked by winet?
