Any Celcom Broadband users around here?

Hey there,

I went to Melaka's PC Fair last week, and subscribed to Maxis' broadband package (the RM98/month one):

On the first day, I get a constant max upload/download speed (uploads at 50KB/s, down at 100KB/s), but on the second and third day, while the download rate is still the same, I can barely get 10KB/s for uploads. I was wondering if this is a common problem (my area of usage is rich in HSPDA signals, as checked from their site), and if the guys using Celcom Broadband are suffering from the same problem with uploading stuff.

Part of my job requires me to send over documents and files to my clients in a timely manner, and the slow uploading speed really affects me.

And I can't believe the price we're paying for mobile internet. We're paying gold for every MB of traffic.

How do Maxis count the data usage, by the way? Combine upload and download? Or are the limits just for downloaded data?

Notebook power adapters, how much do they go for?

So, there's a short circuit happening in my home, and it fried my laptop power adapter, in addition to a bunch of other things (literally, there's smoke and smell of burnt plastic coming out of the rectangle plastic casing for a few seconds before the main power went out), and now I'm in need to buy a new power adapter. It's definitely dead now, sadly =(

How much should I expect to pay for one, and do I need to specially order it? I need to know to prevent myself from being ripped off D:

using wifi, what's wrong with my connection?

I've been using a wireless + router, DSL 605EW since about a month ago.

I ended up configuring the modem such that it auto-connects whenever it's turned on (as instructed by the manual that came with it), and I would use my "Connect Streamyx" PPPoE dialup, just like how I did with my old modem, and everything was fine.

Yesterday, my connection was abruptly cut off (oddly, only the "Connect Streamyx" client was disconnected), and I can't reconnect back (it gives me a "wrong userID or password" error). I could still use my wireless connection on my laptop as usual, though the speed was kinda slow). I called the helpline (1300889515), and was told that my line was "hanging up" at their server (something along those line. I can't remember exactly what the operator said), and that he would reset my connection over there, and my line would be fine as normal after a few minutes, which it did.

Today, I experienced the same problem again at noon, and called the helpline again, twice. Both the times, the operator told me that there's nothing wrong with my line, and there's really nothing that they could do. What's going on here? D:

I tweaked around with the settings just now, and found that right now, whenever I'm connected using the modem's settings, I can't connect with my "Connect Streamyx" PPPoE dialer, which was odd, given how it worked fine throughout the past month. So, my current situation is to either turn off the auto-connect function of my modem (the Internet LED turns red) and be unable to use the wireless (but can use the connection on my desktop), or turn on auto-connect function of modem, and get very crappy bandwidth (averaging 8KB/s download rate) on my wireless and become unable to use the internet connection on my desktop.

I recently installed some Chinese program, and it display random bunch of characters in it, like so:

I heard that I'm supposed to set the regional unicode setting thing to Chinese, but I also frequently use another program that's in Japanese. I suppose switching the regional unicode from Japanese to Chinese would make the said Japanese program to show a bunch of random characters instead?

Is there anything I could do, to get both the effects?

problem with my DS Lite touchscreen?

dear lowyat,

after digging out my DS lite to play some Ouendan 2 (left it on my drawer for months before this), I find that there's some problem with my touchscreen. The upper right part of the screen feels... 'loose'.

I mean, there's this small squeaky sound coming out whenever I touched that area. It's as if the top most layer (I heard there's an extra glossy area on top of every Lite's touchscreen to make it easier to glide stylus on) at the upper right corner has gone kinda loose. It doesn't affect the sensitivity or accuracy of the touch screen, but god, it feels as if I'm moving the stylus over two sheets of thin plastic and gliding them togather, which bothers me.

Does your DS lite have the same thing happening to it? I simply must know.

I mean, I've been religiously doing DVD data backups for the new stuffs I got since last year, when my HDD suddenly died for no apparent reason (and I thought only dumb people would kill their HDD), and recently, I got told that it's a silly thing to do, due to things like (direct quote, btw):

"Archiving stuff for backup purposes is the worst thing you can do. Even if only a small part of the disc becomes unreadable or erroneous there goes your whole collection."
