I have a Java program (requires JDK 1.3) that simply converts HTTP Request object into XML-formatted strings ...
It listens for incoming connection on any port it is assigned to .. and I want it to run 24/7/365 in the background ..
It doesnt require big bandwidth either .... This program runs in the background ..

Is there any shell/accounts/server that is free or cheap that allows me to run this program ... ?

Please advise

Greetings ...

Firstly,

I've been watching FCPO (crude palm oil futures) and paper trading it for learning purpose . Before this, I manually key in the daily price data in Metastock. The problem is, I missed a few days so now I don't have adequate data.

I'd like to get help from anyone here who have Nextview data feed.
Just let me know if you can help and I will let you know the details on how to actually upload the data here.

Secondly,

I'm a fan of technical analysis. To study technical analysis, one need to have price data with charting software. I'm thinking of making this thread a place for students to get some price data so they can start learning. For example :

AliMuChong (Ali, Muthu and Chong, multiracial) want to study TNB stock technicals. But he doesn't have data.
- AliMuChong request for data here.
- AliMuChong put data into the software.
- AliMuChong "manually" update the data everyday from newspaper (because he got no money to subscribe to NextView).
- AliMuChong can do paper trading and learn investing.

What do you think ?

Currently I need FCPO.CC daily price data for the past one year. Anyone can help me with this ?

Investing vs Speculating(Trading)

I'm starting this thread because it has come to my attention that many people has misconception about investing and speculating (trading).

Let's start with the definition of investing and speculating that we are going to discuss. This definition is not the most correct, but at least it will avoid confusion.

Investing - long-term activity where "analyze, buy and hold" is the mantra. Example : Warren Buffet

Speculating - short-term activity where you make money buying/selling before the market goes up/down (respectively). Example : hedge funds, commodity, currency, options and stocks as well.

What do they have in common : both try to make money.

The difference :

Investing : The goal is retire rich. Averaged compounded annual returns (calculated after at least 10 years) need to be at least 10% to be considered good investment. Since this is for retirement, it make sense to buy and hold as long as possible.

Speculating : The goal is to become as rich as possible while you are still young (within 1-5 years). Long-term averaged annual return is not relevant. As long as they can produce insane returns (at least 30% per year for 2-5 years) they are happy. They don't plan to do it longer than that anyway. Risk is much higher as well.

Many people say speculating is bad because of the risks. I say in this world there are 2 ways to get rich while you are still young.
- run your own business.
- be a trader (speculator).

In Malaysia and USA, 97% newly established companies shut down after 3 years.
In speculating, I heard only 5% became rich while they are still young. I say this is just fair. Higher risk, higher gain. In any business, the rich is always the minority, what's new ?

Hence, you cannot compare investing and speculating(trading). They have different objectives.

First of all thanks to mod for creating this subforum.

This thread is for forex traders (trading for profits or as a hobby) to discuss strategies and post their successful trades for others to learn from. We may also discuss about failed trades and learn something from it as well.

What's good about forex?
1) It's a truly globalised market (open 24/5 a week), we are talking about USD 1 trillion worth of transaction every day.
2) It's a free market. Limited regulation compared to securities exchanges.
3) It's where technical analysis works great (I'm so into some technical analysis).
4) Forex trading skills can be apllied in various type of securities and commodities as well (futures, options, gold,soybean). Good for people who consider trading as a professional job.
5) You can open account for -USD 5.00 (yes you get money instead of spending money).

Let's start

Trade : Nov 17 (9pm - 4 am M'sia time)
All positions entered and exited between 9pm-4am.
Total profits : 228 pips

How much a 25 yr old (or less) can make in Malaysia (highest salary you ever heard) ?

A number of my frens are making RM 3500 at age 24 (paid job).
