[WTA] The best Wireless option for WoW

Hello guys. I'm looking for some advice on which Wireless broadband provider would be good (or if not, remotely viable) for playing WoW in Semenyih. I'm a student at the University of Nottingham and I'll be living at the off-campus accommodation, which has no phone line so getting wired internet is unfortunately not an option.

I've heard many good things and bad things about Maxis/Celcom wireless that I don't really know what to believe. I've heard of other alternatives but I'm not sure what they are (I heard about izzi or something). I am FULLY aware that wired will always be better than wireless but its not an option. And as for what I'm going to do in WoW, it'll be just solo questing and BGs mostly. I don't care about raiding or instances. So yeah.... LFM Advice

Thanks in advance. Oh and please don't tell me I shouldn't be gaming in uni I know my limits and I'm only going to be playing casually in my free time. There aren't exactly many forms of entertainment on campus so yeah...

[WTA] Broadband Options

So i'm a new undergrad student at Nottingham Uni. Staying at the off-campus accommodation. There isnt a fixed line in the house i'm staying in so I'm going to have to go with some sort of Wireless broadband service. So far i've heard about something called Extreme Broadband, but I have no idea how good/bad the service is. Alternatively of course there's the option of Maxis/Celcom/Digi/whatever wireless broadband. My knowledge of these providers is very limited and that is why I created this topic

How do the mentioned providers perform in terms of service and quality? I will be using the connection for:

1) Work and study - Well of course
2) P2P - There isn't any free Astro. I'll stop at that. E-books can also be quite useful for research and study
3) Occasional online gaming - As some can tell via my sig/avatar

So yeah. Advice needed please

ATi Radeon X1650 Issue?

Hello there fellow LYNers,

Recently I bought a new ATi Radeon X1650 to replace my old X700. My X700 got worn out and would no longer work without restarting the PC several times due to hardware errors. Anyway, I seem to be having some issues with my with the new X1650. I bought the new card because I wanted to play my games. The games I play aren't really those high spec games that require monster cards. The ones I intend to play are:

- Dawn of War: Dark Crusade
- Half-Life 2
- Lineage II (MMORPG similar to WoW and such)
- Halo
- Counter Strike

Out of the list, the most demanding games would probably be Half-Life 2 and Linage II. Here's where the problems start. I've noticed some significant graphical (ie. framerate) improvements when running Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. However, upon running Half-Life 2 with maxed out settings (shadows and AA disabled), I noticed a considerable drop in framerate. Now here's where it get's worse. I remembered back when I had my old X700 that I was able to run Half-Life 2 with the same settings and having a constant framerate of about ~60fps. Same goes with Lineage II. Framerate is relatively choppy even though my X700 could handle it back then.

Other games such as Halo and Counter Strike work fine.

I'm not so much of a hardware/software man here, so I really don't know much about this issue and how to solve it. I've tried closing everything down and putting the game to highest priority in the task manager but it doesn't seem to help much. I don't know what else to do. Perhaps there is a piece of software I could use to optimise my performance?

About a month ago, my hard drive crashed and I nearly lost all my files. Luckily I was able to extract most of the data off the hard drive - including the footage for Episode I & II using my other computer. Both Episodes successfully got posted Since my old hard drive was pretty much screwed, I had to get a new one - so I did. Ever since I got the new drive, I haven't really had much time to reinstall, re-setup, and reorganize everything again for recording. Finally got around to do it one weekend, got some footage.

I had a four day holiday, so I thought why not edit a vid? One of the comments I received after releasing Episode I & II was that "you're starting to lose your touch on editing". I guess so, since I stopped editing for a while since no one was playing Halo 2 anymore. So this video isn't exactly another humour video like the previous two - it's more of a pwnage video, hence the title A lot of focus is on the editing and music - which I'm sure everyone will like

For those who are slightly new to the community, some background info about me - I've been making videos using my Xbox and my Capture Card for more than a year. Why? Well I simply enjoy making videos. They entertain people and are fun to watch. Sometimes they capture unforgettable moments in the game. For the past year, I've only been making Halo 2 videos. Gears of War is the 2nd game to be "video'ed" by me

Gears was the next major game after Halo 2. Lots of players, which made it easy to gather footage. Gears is also really fun to play This video is basically a collection of some of the cool, funny, and weird moments captured while playing GoW multiplayer matches. This video isn't designed to prove anything. It's not meant to tell anyone that I'm good at GoW or anything. It is simply showcasing the fun we have while playing GoW multiplayer.

Brian and Frankie out in Barcelona at X06 for what we've hinted several times would be a Halo 3 no-show. But we also dropped a hint or two that something would be happening, and that's certainly true. By now you may have read elsewhere that two new Halo game projects have been announced - the Halo Wars real time strategy game from Ensemble and the as-yet unrevealed Halo project to be made in partnership with Lord of the Rings and King Kong director, Peter Jackson. Both projects are for Xbox 360.

Deep breath now. Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, who we're also working with on the Halo movie, have formed Wingnut Interactive, a video game studio that will capitalize on Peter and Fran's creative vision, while using the expertise, infrastructure and experience of Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios to get the show on the road.

It's a partnership we've been very excited about for a long time, and one that gives us great pleasure (and no small measure of relief) to announce.

Wingnut Interactive will be working closely with us to create "another chapter in the Halo universe," which is a phrase you'll be hearing a lot and of course, we're sworn to secrecy.

This raises as many questions as it answers - will it be a sequel? A prequel? A side-story? We won't squeal, but we can tell you it will be a blend of gameplay and storytelling quite unlike anything the games industry has ever seen before. And Wingnut Interactive isn't stopping at Halo - the newly formed gaming behemoth will also be working closely with Microsoft to introduce a brand-new gaming IP created by Wingnut themselves.

Gasp! Does this mean Bungie is distracted from Halo 3? No. In fact the Bungie team, now bigger and better than ever, thunders on down the road to completing Halo 3 and will simply not deviate from that path. A few select team members have been chosen to liaise and interface with Wingnut Interactive and in fact, the sharing of ideas and technology with Wingnut Interactive and to some extent, WETA Digital, will likely bring creative benefits to Bungie as we complete our scheduled march to finish and release Halo 3 in 2007. Thanks to careful planning and good use of resources, these new projects have added not one single day to our schedule.

YET MORE HALO ON THE HORIZON

As if the Peter Jackson partnership wasn't cool enough for Halo fans, there's more to be excited about in the form of the just announced Halo RTS game being developed by Ensemble Studios. "Halo Wars" is a brand new saga in the Halo Universe that explores the time of first contact between the UNSC and Covenant Forces. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to control dozens of Warthogs and Scorpion tanks instead of just a single vehicle, your time has finally come.

Ensemble Studios has a rich heritage and expertise in the real-time-strategy genre through their extremely successful Age of Empires franchises on the PC. This latest endeavor has been designed from the ground up as an Xbox 360 title, with controls and interface specifically tuned for the needs of a console. The folks at Ensemble are the only team we trusted to make a Halo RTS and from what we've already seen (and played), it's going to be awesome. And yes, the controls do work great on a 360 pad.

Bungie has been working with Ensemble primarily in the area of the game's fiction to help inspire the story and ensure continuity with the existing Halo Universe. Aside from that, Ensemble is applying their skills to deliver a great Halo experience in a whole new genre, which is ironically where Halo began in the first place. If you've seen some of the very early Halo videos out there, you might recall that before it ever became an FPS, it was in fact designed as an RTS (building off of Bungie's experience with the Myth franchise). Now, many years later, Ensemble is able to take the franchise full circle and bring it back to the place where it all began.

Ensemble brought their prototype to Bungie quite a while back, to show the guys that an RTS could not only work on the 360, but kick ass too. Frankly, Ensemble is one of very few folks on Earth that we would trust with our baby, and that trust is doubled thanks to the excellence of the Age of Empires franchise.

Ensemble's own Chris Rippy said, "The Halo Wars team is made up of a bunch of guys that are all very passionate Halo fans. When we sat down to start thinking about our next project, we thought bringing the Halo universe into the RTS world would be a perfect a fit, and would make an amazing game. We couldn't be more excited about Halo Wars, and can't wait for everyone to try it out!"

Naturally you've got a million questions and unfortunately, as is usually the case with anything Halo-related, we don't really have many answers just yet. As we continue to see early builds and get hands on time with the game we'll pass our impressions on to you through our weekly updates but for the most part you should head over to the Ensemble site - www.halowars.com - for the latest news and updates on Halo Wars. In addition to a FAQ and forum, you'll be able to check out various game assets inclduing the CG announcement trailer that was shown to the press at X06. Inconsistencies
Several inconsistencies have been noted between the Halo Wars trailer and the rest of the Halo series:

- Despite the fact that Halo Wars takes place before Halo: Combat Evolved (2552), all the Marines as well as Spartans are using Battle Rifles in combat, which aren't introduced until the Halo 2 section of the story (and even then in supposed "experimental testing"). They also to be somewhat full auto and not 3 shot bursts
- The Banshees are either modified or a different model, as they have a ridge on their hoods and even feature headlights, as well as several individual LEDs on the engines instead of the faint glow from Halo: Combat Evolved. Regardless, the Banshees seem much more advanced than they should be, as they exhibit several features not seen in Halo: Combat Evolved.
- The Banshees no longer leave a pair of contrails, and move at an unprecedented speed without boosting.
- The Elites' combat armor not only exhibits the small LED-like lights seen only in Halo 2, but also shows the signature energy shimmer of uncloaking that wasn't present in Halo: Combat Evolved, in which decloaking consisted solely of the Elite fading into view.
- The cloaking technology of Elites has never been capable of masking the visible light emitted by an energy sword, but the energy sword is depicted as uncloaking along with the rest of the Elite as the recon soldier turns onto his back.
- An additional peculiarity that, while it may not be an inconsistency per se, does merit mention is that many Elites are shown without weaponry; the leader of the group charging the UNSC line in the short battle section is shown simply running at the humans completely unarmed, and many Elites are shown decloaking with empty hands. In Halo and Halo 2, Elites are usually armed with Plasma Rifles and Covenant Carbines.
- The Elites walk and fall like humans.

So I got banned from Live. Big deal that doesn't stop me from making another montage. Yes my last montage was titled as my "Final Montage" but guess what? I lied. Who cares Montages are fun to make and they entertain people. So the gameplay in this montage was all done over Xlink Kai. Took 1 day to edit it and yeah. Enjoy. Reviews are appreciated

Part I - The Beginning

Description
What do you do when you get owned, but you can't accept it? Call your opponent a cheater of course! This is exactly what happened it last nights game. Read or the video won't make much sense. Here we go. So yesterday night I was playing Xlink Kai with my brother, then this local guy called "(SRS-TEAM)-HALO2" comes into the Xlink room/arena. Now some background info on SRS TEAM. He's been on Xlink Kai even before I knew about it. Probably since Halo 2 came out. Basically, the TEAM consists of 22 members and they all have the SRS tag in their names and they all use one Xlink Kai account named "(SRS-TEAM)-HALO2". So, it's really a team. So like 2 SRS guys, come into the game. Then this one guy called 3K Ted From Work comes into the game as well. He starts tearing up everything like there's no tomorrow. In other words, he was owning everyone. In the end, I lost the game. Ted won.

So after playing a round of Team Slayer (Me, my bro, Ted VS. SRS guy #1, SRS guy #2 and SRS guy #3) and winning, one of the SRS kids start accusing Ted of using "Auto Aim", in other words, cheating. Well, being a Halo 2 hacker, I know how mods work. You have to be the game host to be able to use your hacks/mods/cheats. Ted was not the host. I was host. So there really was no way Ted could've cheated. So obviously Ted doesn't like being accused of being a cheater, so he starts playing a fool. Now watch the vid Note that Ted is just a random kid I met and I don't know him at all

MobiusVyper's Final Halo 2 Montage

After about 2 months of recording, getting banhammered, 17 hours of editing, 4 hours of rendering, 4 hours of compressing, 4 hours of uploading and 10 minutes of typing this topic, it's finally here and ready for download. The last Halo 2 Montage that I will ever make, which also happens to be my second Halo 2 Xbox Live montage. The montage's purpose is to entertain and I hope it will entertain everyone who watches it. If you thought my first one was good, you'll definitely like this one Video production can be a pain and things go off schedule so sorry for all the delays. I've created two versions of the montage - Normal and Widescreen - Why did I do this? Well the Normal version has a filesize totalling 115 MB and is slightly lower quality compared to the Widescreen version, which is only 100 MB. It's Widescreen, so some of the top and the bottom will be cut off but it shouldn't interfere with the main action. Also, I felt like doing a Widescreen montage so I did it with this one. It's your pick. You can even download both versions if you want There's Low Quality and High Quality versions as well. For best experience, download the High Quality Widescreen version

At the moment, I have no plans of creating a third Halo 2 Montage, but I do plan to create montages based on other FPSs such as GRAW or Rainbow Six Vegas (OMG Teh Prawn!) in the future. Montages are not the only type of videos which I will be creating in the future. I will create other videos too (eg. Guide, Walkthru, etc.)

Well this may be kind of pointless but it usually has interesting responses and I've got nothing to lose so....

How Did You Come Up With Your Gamertag?

I came up with mine after playing one of the Ace Combat games. One of the pilots in the game had the callsign "Mobius" so I took that and added "Vyper" to it because I like snakes The reason I replaced the 'i' with a 'y' is because I wanted to be different and unique. I can register pretty much anywhere with this alias and it won't be taken

For my gamertag, I reserved "MobiusVyper" for my Xbox 360 gamertag on Xbox.Com. I thought I could use it to sign up for Xbox Live on a normal Xbox but I couldn't so I just used "I MobiusVyper I"

Hi

I would like to upgrade my Streamyx service. I'm currently on the RM 77 package and I want to upgrade to the RM 88 package. But I would like to avoid the idea of going to TM itself. Is there a possible way to upgrade via the online website or thru customer support or something? I really don't want to go to TM. They can't even change my address properly
