I sold my Pioneer VSX-819

Still a peasant but nevertheless need to go one step higher. Which of the following is a better choice (they are about the same price range) :-

1) Pioneer 919
2) Onkyo 606
3) Yamaha 465

I know it's a bit vague and subjective, but leave some thoughts and comments. It's still appreciated.

Google doesn't seem to provide enough help for me to make a choice.

A lot of people already watched this movie on DVD (Good copy , subtitles and all) almost a month ago, ahem ) , but it's only now released in U.S Cinemas and it debuted at no.1 spot too.
Wierd Sata Hard Disk Mode

Anyone knows what this mode is about. I have heard of UDMA mode 6, but what is Multiword DMA-6?

The max Multiword DMA mode I have come across before is Multiword DMA-2.

My hard Disk is Western Digital Sata 160GB attached to Pentium 4 MSI socket 775 M/B.

SiSoft Sandra Lite shows the folowing :-

Maximum PIO Mode - PIO-3
Maximum DMA SW Mode - SWDMA-2
Maximum DMA MW Mode - MWDMA-6

Current Active Mode - MWDMA-6

Anyone can give some idea?

About Sata 2

First I want to apologise for the stupid questions I am about to ask. You see, I am a little left behind in PC technology.

Here are the questions :-

1) If I have a Sata2 Hard Disk (Western Digital 1600JS) connected to a Motherboard which supports Sata2, but windowsXP only show it's operating at UDMA mode 5, does that mean it's not in Sata2 mode? As far as I understand from SisSoft Sandra, the Max speed for this drive is UDMA mode 6.

2) If I can set any jumpers etc. to change this drive to Sata2 mode, will there be any danger of data loss on the drive the next time I load windowsXP.

Thanks for your help.

Question about Toshiba LCD 37A3000E

Can any owner of the Toshiba A3000E model kindly confirm that it doesn't support the resolution of 1360x768 for PC use?

I find it strange that it doesn't support the native resolution (almost) whereas most other brands does. It however allows 1280x1024
Samsung 1080P LCD TV

I saw this full HD LCD TV by Samsung, can't remember the model. It has deeper black than any Plasma I have seen. From far it looked like a super clear Plasma, but it's really a LCD. Furthermore it has the advantage of better brightness and contrast and resolution.

A perfect replacement for Plasma. But only problem is the price, RM13,xxx/-

Was I mistaken?

btw I think it was 46".

The tricks they use

The other day I was browsing at a well known AV/Electrical shop. I came across a salesman trying to convince me to buy some MONSTER brand Component cables for around RM4xx. I didn't need the Component cables because I was already usiging HDMI Cable for digital connection, but I listened to the sales talk anyway.

The cables were already hooked up to an LCD-TV and they had an equally divided PIP(Picture-in-Picture) display on the TV to show the difference between the Monster and 'no brand' cable.

As we all know, for analog signals, the quality of the cables can make a big dfference in the picture quality. And I wasn't surprised to find the picture using the Monster cable was much better than the no-name brand.

But being curious, I took a peek behind the LCD panel you know what I saw? The no-name brand cable connected to the TV was only an ordinary Single yellow AV (composite) cable.

These are the kind of tricks they will use nowaday. If they have so much confidence in their productss, they should compare like with like, i.e Monster component vs No-name Component.

So my advice for would be buyers of Expensive cables, to be very careful. Make sure you not only check the kind of connection, but also be aware that nowadays LCD-TV can store settings in memory for each differnt input. You can in fact even input two Same MONSTER cable and adjust the Constrast/Brigtness/Colour/Sharpness etc. to make one look better than the other.

Speedometer Test

I just installed WinXP Professional sr2 (I know I am behind time) but when I do the TMnet Speedometer download test I get crazy and slow results. I am on the 512 package.

The results vary greatly from one test to another. They fluctuate from as low as 70 Kbps to 300+Kbps. Average I get is between 200-300Kbps.

Why is it only a problem with WinXP. It is a completely new install using a new hard disk.

Before that I was using Windows98. With Windows98 I was consistently getting good speeds from 350+ to 450+ Kbps. Sometimes I even got over 500+Kbps.

Is it a WinXP issue? I am beginning to regret installing WinXP.

As I said it is a fresh install, not even with anti-virus software yet.

After weeks, only now are they willing to acknowledge the problem. Even then it's probably just a smoke screen. They probably facing big technical problems and don't have a clue how to solve it, so give excuse that they are performing technical trials.

They say they are aware of the problem, so why only after so long are they only now announcing it?:-

Wednesday, April 05, 2006

ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear customers,

TM Net Sdn Bhd would like to inform its customers that it is currently performing technical trials on its network system as part of the Company’s efforts to continuously upgrade its products and services.
Help ! What do I do next?

To summarise :-

1) Subscribed to Streamyx online last week
2) By now TMnet assured jumpering already done . I have not activated yet , just wanted to test DSL signal first before activating.
3) However Aztech Modem 600EU does not show any DSL signal (not even a blinking one). Power light is on, Ethernet light is on.
4) Modem is not faulty. Tested it on someone else's Broadband enabled line. DSL light work.
5) No extensions used for my phone line, directly connected to wall socket.
6) Tried both with a splitter/microfilter and without one. Still no signal.
7) Complained to Tmnet but they insist and confirmed jumpering already done correctly.

So the big question. What am I supposed to do next?

This is the first time I am subscribing to any Broadband service, so my knowledge is almost Nil. Please pardon my ignorance.

Anyone can give me advice on what to do next? Thank You very much.
