[WTA] SDHC Memory card for Canon IXUS 110 IS

Hi there,

I plan to get a new memory card primary for my Canon IXUS 110 IS but I got a few things need to clarify:

1) Will a 16GB SDHC slow during photo shooting and photo browsing with 80% full. (or it is depends on class4 or class6?)
2) Will the IXUS 110 take advantage of the extra speed offers by the class6 over the class4 card?

FYI, I mostly use the 16GB card for HD recording. Hope to see some replies.
Thank you.
Setup a Reverse Proxy

Hi there,

I would like to setup a reverse proxy environment for my web server which shown as below. Is there anyone provide this particular service?
Free or paid is okay. Or can I setup it on my own? Thanks in advance.

Reverse proxy

A reverse proxy is another common form of a proxy server and is generally used to pass requests from the Internet, through a firewall to isolated, private networks. It is used to prevent Internet clients from having direct, unmonitored access to sensitive data residing on content servers on an isolated network, or intranet. If caching is enabled, a reverse proxy can also lessen network traffic by serving cached information rather than passing all requests to actual content servers. Reverse proxy servers may also balance workload by spreading requests across a number of content servers. One advantage of using a reverse proxy is that Internet clients do not know their requests are being sent to and handled by a reverse proxy server. This allows a reverse proxy to redirect or reject requests without making Internet clients aware of the actual content server (or servers) on a protected network.

A reverse proxy server will first check to make sure a request is valid. If a request is not valid, or not allowed (blocked by the proxy), it will not continue to process the request resulting in the client receiving an error or a redirect. If a request is valid, a reverse proxy may check if the requested information is cached. If it is, the reverse proxy serves the cached information. If it is not, the reverse proxy will request the information from the content server and serve it to the requesting client. It also caches the information for future requests.

How to conceal website info

Hi there,

Is there any way to conceal a website info which located on a server?

For example I have a Dedicated Server called "Server A" with url www.abc.com. If you go to certain website, you can check who register the website and at which place the server is located. So, I was wondering whether such things exist:

Client PC ---> X ---> Dedicated Server (www.abc.com)

X can be another server or proxy server which can use to conceal the Dedicated server info to prevent hackers, etc.

FYI, X and the dedicated server is not on the same LAN. I read from a website it say there is a web based port forwarding (or whatever it is) which can use to forward such request to external network. From what I know, port forwarding is use to connect to local network but not external.

Thanks in advance.

Firefox bookmark

Hi there,

In Firefox, is there any way to quickly bookmark a partically address to a fixed folder without choosing from the folder list?

Let say I got a few folders:

1. News
2. Sports
3. Lowyat Topics

I want to quickly double click or any shortcut method that allow me to easily add the bookmark to "lowyat topics" folder? Or perhaps add to last added folders.

I know we can drag and drop it into the bookmark toolbar but sometimes it is quick troublesome if the folder is nested in another folder.

Thanks in advance.

SB Audigy Value and SE?

Hi guys,

I planning to get the budget SB Audigy but i saw 2 different box;

1. Audigy SE 7.1
2. Audigy Value

Any different between these two? My most important concern is Vista x64 support. X-fi is too expensive for me...

Gigabyte P43-DS3L support E8400 out of box?

Hi, I just wondering whether Gigabyte P43-DS3L support an E8400 out of box... which means no need to do any bios update for it to detect the CPU. Previous Gigabyte P35-DS3L need bios update because it was an old board.

[WTA] Motherboard Bios

Hi, I just wondering whether the reseller will flash the motherboard for its customer to the latest version in order to support newer CPU.

For example: If I purchase a E8400 together with a Gigabyte EP35-DS3 which I think still using the old BIOS that cannot support the CPU. Both of it is bought at the same place and can I ask them to flash the BIOS to latest version since I do not have any CPU to help me to upgrade the BIOS.

Thx in advance.

[WTA] Is Vantec iOn2 500W any good?

Hi guys, I'm planning to get a new PSU to power up a PC with E8400, HD4850 and around 3-4 HDDs. I learned from LYN that a good PSU is needed for a stable PC. So, I look around some brands and I found one quite suitable for my usage, the Vantec ION2 500W which price around RM220 (in PG). I tried to google for more info about this unit but the result is hard to get. Actually, there are only a few things I need to know:

1. Is it true power (500W as claimed)
2. Reliability
3. Is the fan quiet (compare to Coolermaster Extreme)

Besides Vantec, I also look at other brands but I am not into overclocking and my budget is around RM250. So, a silent PSU that can run the above spec is enough for me. I'm hoping some LYN members can help me to clarify the spec, etc. Thank you in advance.
