But the unique dual Internet ports on the 10/100 4-Port VPN Router let you connect a second Internet line as a backup to insure that you're never disconnected. Or, use both Internet ports at the same time, and let the router balance your office's requirements between them for maximum bandwidth efficiency.

The 10/100 4-Port VPN Router also features a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Ethernet switch to connect four PCs directly, or you can connect more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need.

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) capability creates encrypted "tunnels" through the Internet, allowing up to 30 remote office or traveling users to securely connect into your office network from off-site. Users connecting through a VPN tunnel are attached to your company's network -- with secure access to files, e-mail, and your intranet -- just as if they were in the building. You can also use the VPN capability to allow users on your small office network to securely connect out to a corporate network.

The 10/100 4-Port VPN Router can serve as a DHCP Server, and has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks. It can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet, and has IP address filtering so you can specify exactly who has access to your network. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.

As the heart of your small office network, the connection-redundant Linksys 10/100 4-Port VPN Router gives you the connection reliability your business needs.

ftp://ftp.linksys.com/downloads/NA/userguide/RV042_ug.pdf

I am combining 4Mbps and 1.5 Mbps streamyx

4Mbit capped at 5026kbps and 1.5 Mbit Capped at 1526kbps

Will upgrade another one to 4 Mbit in future if the hotspot system users need more bandwith

You can combine more WAN in different model of router from 4 up to 8 WAN

Linksys VPN Router

This is maximum download achieved

Wikipedia DVD Released on BitTorrent

Today, the latest edition of the Wikipedia school edition has been released by SOS Children’s Villages, a charity organization that aims to help orphans and vulnerable children worldwide. The 08/09 edition can be downloaded for free, via BitTorrent only, and comprises over 5500 hand-picked educational articles aimed at helping schools to enhance their curriculum.

This year’s Wikipedia edition for schools is the largest since the project started back in 2006. With 34,000 images and 20 million words, it is comparable to a twenty volume encyclopedia captured on a single DVD.

Without a doubt, it is the most successful “checked content” project based on the English Wikipedia, used by hundreds of schools in first and third world countries. The project was originally aimed at schools in developing countries, but because of the high quality articles - all based around the UK curriculum with an absence of adult content - it is often used on intranets in first world schools too.

To save on resources, Wikipedia for schools is only available online via BitTorrent, which practically reduces the charity’s distribution costs to zero. SOS Children CEO Andrew Cates, who is a Wikipedia administrator himself, said that they have no other choice than to use BitTorrent, since the 2.9 GB download would crush their server.

“BitTorrent was a bit disappointing in that it got us the only substantial criticisms we received online,” Cates said in an interview with Wikinews. “A lot of people find it too much effort to use. However for the period we offered a straight http: download we had huge problems with spiders eating vast bandwidth.”

“As per last year therefore our main two channels will be free download by BitTorrent and mailing the DVDs free all over the world. At a pinch we will (as before) put straight copies up for individuals who cannot get it any other way, and we have some copies on memory sticks for on distributors,” Cates added.

The .torrent file is available for download on the SOS Children’s Villages website. For those who don’t want to install a BitTorrent client, the DVD can also be downloaded from any web browser with BitLet.

A final word of advice from SOS Children’s Villages: “It helps our charity if you keep µTorrent running after your download is finished.”

http://www.soschildrensvillages.org.uk/cha...for-schools.htm

THE DD-WRT V2 ( V24 SP1 Firmware Released )

The frist version could be view in here . It's time for new version 2 Series

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/256358

About DD-WRT

12. December 2004

DD-WRT was founded
The initial target was just a modification of the original Linksys Firmware for supporting
simple Radius Authentication, But I decided to add some more small tools and fancy things, just for fun.

Anytime in January 2005

Out from the great Response
from our Community, after releasing it to the public, I developed more and more features and started also to redesign the complete
firmware.

June 2005
Just 6 months later, i quit my regular Job in the Software Industry and started to work on DD-WRT as full time Job, at this time i joined
the Blueline-AG for getting some help with the financial background.

January 2006
Started todo some code supporting work for FON

May 2006
Since i was unable to fullfill my dreams within the Blueline-AG i joined the NewMedia-NET GmbH and finally i got the support for bringing
DD-WRT to the next level which was

September 2006
DD-WRT V23 SP2 was released which seemed our biggest success so far. many people still like it
At this time we started also porting DD-WRT to various Platforms like
Avila Gateworks, X86, FON Fonera and whatever was comming to my dev table. (about 90 different router types so far)

August 2007
We finally got a contract with a main vendor of Wireless Routers. Buffalo decided that they want to work with us together on future wireless platforms.

October 2007
The Buffalo WHR-HP-G54DD (EU only) was released by Buffalo with a exlusive DD-WRT Firmware

December 2007
The Buffalo AS-100 (Japan only) was released by Buffalo

Soon:

Release of v24 final. unlike some rumours, it will be activation free for all home or broadcom based routers like in the past.
We are currently in our final stages and deep in final tests. so keep patient until its ready. its worth to wait a little bit

18.05.08

We are very proud to release the final DD-WRT v24 to the public. After months of development and bug fixing we are sure this release is as stable and reliable people expect a DD-WRT major release to be. The v24 binaries are now available in the download section (click here).

DD-WRT v24 offers many new features, on of the most important is support of Atheros wlan chipsets and SOC designs. By supporting special features of the Atheros wireless designs like half- and quarter channels and extended channel support DD-WRT is now perfectly suited for long range wireless links. With this DD-WRT is now also supporting the whole Ubiquity line of wireless products using all available features the hardware offers.

Highlights of DD-WRT v24:
- Virtual SSIDs, Virtual DHCP-Servers, PPTP over WAN enhencements, Bridging + VLAN support, VDSL Support, OLSR-Routing / Freifunk, My Ad Network (powered by AnchorFree), Quaqqa instead of Bird (in X86 + Xscale default), PPPOE-Server, EOIP-Tunnel, Network configuration enhencements, UP-Downstream (QOS), New Packet Scheduler HFSC, Save & Apply, extended DDNS options, extended status information, New Languages, Sipwerk integrated Milkfish into the new release, turning every DD-WRT router into a SIP-aware firewall.

26.07.08, by BrainSlayer

Two months after the release of the milestone v24 we are happy to give a refined release to the public, v24 SP1. Besides the official support of new hardware platforms and the addition of some new features we did enhance the usability and stability of many functions inside DD-WRT. We did also incorporate the patches for the recently published dns exploit issue. We'd like to make clear that the DD-WRT default configuration in v23 / v24 is not vulnerable, so there was and is no risk for dd-wrt users. There was also a security issue in the site survey that is not published yet and is fixed in the v24 SP1.

Thanks to all the people out there that give us reports and did help us identify issues, we are glad that there are so many people that support this project.

(Almost) Complete list of enhancements in v24 SP1:

New hardware platforms:
- X86, Avila Gateworks, Cambria Gateworks, Atheros Soc (for a list, please look into the Download Section), Compex,Senao, Fonera, Ubiquiti

Thanks for all the help and response we got.

DD-WRT is:

Sebastian Gottschall (BrainSlayer, founder, maindeveloper)
Christian Scheele (Chris, CEO)
Ales Majdic (Eko, fixing alot)
Sylvain Bothorel (Botho,router webdesign)
Felix Fietkau (nbd/openwrt,madwifi)

and alot of supporters around the world

Helpful Links

Demo Page DD-WRT Router

Click for List of supported hardware that support DD-WRT

DD-WRT Wikipedia Page & Guideline

Example of interfaces

WRT54GS Ver 1.1 running on Ver 24SP1

[addedon]June 19, 2008, 12:34 pm[/addedon]Reserved for news

Working With Senao EOC-2610 Support DD-WRT ( With Activation )

[attachmentid=811112]

[attachmentid=811114]

Glasnost Server ( Bittorent Server Tester )

Certain ISPs have been shown to rate limit or block BitTorrent traffic sent by their customers. While there are multiple reports of this on the web, only a few ISPs have admitted that they manipulate BitTorrent traffic. And, to date, it is hard for users without networking expertise to gain evidence about the behavior of their ISP.

This test suite creates a BitTorrent-like transfer between your machine and our server, and determines whether or not your ISP is limiting such traffic. This is a first step towards making traffic manipulation by ISPs more transparent to their customers.
What can you test?

Our test focuses on the popular BitTorrent protocol as many ISPs are suspected to manipulate BitTorrent traffic. This type of traffic can be identified by the port it is sent on (e.g., TCP port 6881) or by BitTorrent content headers which occur in the packets.
Therefore, we designed our online tool to detect whether your ISP is using one of the following techniques:

* Throttling all BitTorrent traffic.
* Throttling all traffic at well-known BitTorrent ports.
* Throttling BitTorrent traffic only at well-known BitTorrent ports.

Note that some ISPs do not throttle all BitTorrent traffic but only if this traffic exceeds a certain threshold. Thus, passing our tests does not necessary mean that there is no throttling occurring on your link.

* Our test runs BitTorrent and TCP downloads as well as uploads on a well-known BitTorrent port and a non-BitTorrent port.
* There are two test configurations available. The simple one takes approximately 4 minutes and each individual transfer is 10 seconds long. The full testset runs each transfer for 20 seconds and collect more data points and allows us to infer the status of your link with higher confidence.
* Note to all users: To allow accurate measurements you should stop any large downloads that might run in the background.
* If you are interested in a more detailed description of our test suite and its detection techniques, please read on here.

Glasnost Server Tester Link

Video: How People Are Tracked Using BitTorrent

[YOUTUBE]9U-f47S5Cb8[/YOUTUBE]

Being tracked by anti-piracy organizations and receiving infringement notices on file-sharing networks is becoming more common. A security project manager has just released a short video showing how it's done.

A common question from BitTorrent users is how anti-p2p outfits trace and trace file-sharers in order to send infringement notices. We've reported on one technique in the past and now, thanks to Dan Morrill, a Security Project Manager with VMC Consulting in Redmond Washington, we have a short video illustrating another basic technique which is easy to understand.

Dan's example involves him downloading a large file with the popular Azureus client, while giving a commentary on the various types of information offered by the client, a brief overview of how BitTorrent works, how it's possible to be tracked and how the gathered information could be processed. He also touches on anonymity and the use of blocklists.

A popular piece of IP blocking software is Peerguardian, which can be downloaded at Phoenix Labs, with the blocklists available from Bluetack. Users seeking anonymity can achieve this by using a free proxy server but in reality, most don't offer performance anywhere near good enough for BitTorrent. VPN services such as VPNTunnel aren't free but they're reliable and generally protect users from the techniques shown in the video.

Just one criticism; Dan states towards the end of the video that if you don't use blocklists you are almost guaranteed to be 'nabbed'. The majority of people don't use blocklists and the majority of those are not getting 'nabbed'.

Indeed, most of the cases we hear of from the United States are people who don't use BitTorrent at all. On the other hand, blocklists mostly offer pseudo-security, since there's no guarantee that you are not tracked while using them.
