Gigabyte P55 UD3R review

Right after 1Gigabyte 1Malaysia campaign ended last September, I was given chance to test out the new P55 mainboard from Gigabyte. The board is Gigabyte P55 UD3R. I'm not really sure in which section this board belong because normally the 3 series are for the entry level, but from the specs, i believe this UD3R deserves to be in the mid-end line up. Currently Gigabyte P55 UD6 is the most high end one while Gigabyte P55 UD4 and P55 UD3 are both top in mid-end section and entry-level section respectively.

Gigabyte has launched more than 9 models of motherboards under the P55 family, with 2 of them are in M-ATX format.Chart below shows the differences for some of the Gigabyte P55 family:

This time I'll start the OC / Discussion thread with 3 parts. First is the board, Second is the features and software, and 3rd is OC parts.

PART I : The board.

Basic packaging:

Board:
No heatpipe connecting the PWM heatsink to the nb and sb. Gigabyte spares that for higher end model.

Main features and expansion slots. Noticed that for this board the PCB is Made in China compared to the higher end board by Gigabyte that always has their PCB made in Taiwan.

With P55, we're back to dual channel DDR3. But for Gigabyte P55 UD6, there is still 6 ram slots. Just like the X58 boards.

8 Sata II slots, coloured front panel and usb header

Gigabyte Trademark. The DualBios

Phase LED?

CPU socket area. 8+2 Phase is quite small for today's standards. But I think it's more than enough for 'moderate' overclocking.

i5 750. This is what I gonna use with this board.

This board offers identical performance with other more expensive I7 boards out there, but without SLI support and 6 slots of ram (who gonna need it anyway?) So if you are going to buy I7, and don't have plan to use SLI, so honestly you can save lots of money by buying this Intel board.. without compromising the performance.
With I7 920 at Rm10xx out there, plus this at +/- RM800, u spend less than RM1900, which is equivalent to buy a brand new Intel Quad Q9450 and good P45 boards out there. Honestly i like this board way better than the Asus P6T Deluxe.. Reason? I manage to get the best of my processor, ram without breaking any sweat.. the Intel board offers simplicity and stability to reach good oc.
And for the buyer of my board, I can help you get the brand new I7 if u r afraid u cant buy the processor alone.

hi,

just wanna share with u guys one of my new toy that i've just received ..

it comes with only a blank white box with only tagged by a black marker...

it's the new Gigabyte EP45T Extreme, which is based on the newer P45 chipset by Intel..

this one is the DDR3 version based on the T at the end of the model name.

now let's look what is inside....

a large copper heatsink with black sponge...

out of the box...

6 sata ports.. which all are accessible even with long graphic cards in CF setup..

well labelling of USB and Firewire internal headers.. 3 firewires..?

power and reset button which have become common nowadays. great and important element for open bencher and for reviewer
and there is also debug LED for troubleshooting..

3x pci-e slots. since this is p45 chipset, there's no 2x full 16x pci-e lanes when in CF mode..

battery placement just below the copper heatpipe....but does it matter? later we find out...

hi everyone..

i think many of u guys know bout this guy, nicked Seamonster.. he keeps selling good used stuffs at cheaper price while accept trade in.. normally he sells processor (OEM and retail)

ok here is the case,

wednesday:
i wanted to buy from him one Q6600 retail, then i also said i want to trade in with one of my E2160.. so he said ok..
i have to pay him RM540..
I agree with that, but i said i need the q6600 to be in my hand first before i posted out my E2160.
He said ok, but i have to pay him full amount first. I asked how much, he said RM700. I agree with it.

thursday:
this is the day he shud posted out the processor... later in afternoon i asked him whether he already posted or not, he said he cant post it yet bcoz he still waiting for the heatsink + receipt from the guy he bought the q6600 (remember he is a trader)..
but i said i need the cpu fast so just post the processor first and the rest of the stuffs later. he said ok, he will post the processor today and the other stuffs on friday..

Friday:
i got the item..

The next week:
I still didnt receive the other stuffs..
I posted out the E2160 on thursday to one address he gave (shah alam)

The week after:
I didnt yet receive my stuffs (the heatsink + receipt)
and he also didnt receive my cpu..

this week:
i tried to solve with him in Pm but in the end of the day he refuse to entertain me.. He also acted sarcasticly in PM..

Today:
i try to solve thing and only ask him to admit his mistake.. but he dun want.. instead he challenge me to open this thread coz he said he wants to see if he can win against a 4k post senior member..

Ok, the problem here is both of us dun keep the poslaju receipt.. so we failed to prove it to make things easier.. On my part, i already bear my loss (for the E2160) and seamonster dun have to refund me back..

it's like i'm buying the Q6600 alone.. not trade in..

but for Seamonster part, he didnt want to admit his mistake when i asked bout the heatsink + receipt.. u know, i dun really care bout the heatsink + receipt.. but if u bought sthing retail, and agreed to have those stuffs, surely u want it rite? and in this case the stuffs means more esp for warranty purpose..

i PMed him few times to discuss, but he keep asking where is my E2160... and try to avoid the heatsink + receipt that he lost...

just imagine,

if u buying a used car + trade in with ur current car.. while waiting for the loan process suddenly ur current car was stolen.. but u already got full loan for ur new car, can the usedcar seller decide to not sell the car to u? coz u already paid and he already got the money from bank..
can he keeps asking where the **** is the my old car? and decided to hold the new car document?

Honestly, i didnt plan to open this thread.. but he challenge me to do so.. So i open it.. I have pride as well.. not just him.. If he thinks he got so many follower due to nice stuff he is selling, then that's it..

I dun care who is wrong here. i believe both of us are wrong, by loosing the poslaju receipt.. but i believe both of us have to be responsible.. i responsible for the E2160, he responsible for the heatsink + receipt.. that's it.. In the end who doesnt want to be responsible, he is the one who is loosing..

Fyi, i also had another one E2160 lying around.. but i dun think i can replace the missing one and give this to him.. coz for what had happened..

Maybe u guys can advice us what shud i do, and what shud he do.. I hope this case can be solved easily bcoz for me, it's a very small matter.. the amount involved is very small, just rite now i think Seamonster has too much ego in him...

now i'm asking for honest opinion from u guys, no matter if u r my friend, if u think i'm guilty then i'm fine with it.. same with seamonster.. this is the 1st time i open thread here and i want thing to be solved fairly..

am i dealing with Seamonster or Kucingfight? so what ever happens with the processor is between me and seamonster.. for kucingfight, he needs to be responsible for kucingfight, not simply by pointing finger to me when sthing goes wrong..

just imagine:

if u buy some faulty stuff from me.. and the stuff i got from other forumer .. can i simply point u to blame that guy and i just relax goyang kaki? as a seller / trader, i've to be responsible to u coz u r my customer.. then only i blame the guy who sold the stuff to me.. am i rite?
