Data Plans

Hi there!

Before I get flamed for not posting in the right section, I'd like to bring to attention the fact that the last post in the (somewhat) relevant thread was early/mid of last month - which probably means no one reads the sticky-ied threads.

Anyways, I need an answer somewhat soonish as it is the beginning of the month and I would like to upgrade from the bloody idiotic Standard Plan (maxis) to something more...worth it.

So yes, the question: Data Plans.

I got quite sick and tired of searching both Maxis and Celcom for the rates they charge for data. The closest thing was from maxis as illustrated below:

However, I refuse to believe that they charge a bloody RM58 for a 500MB package. Don't they have an unlimited package or something?

The only unlimited package that I am aware of is for the BIS from both Maxis and Celcom (RM 120 and RM90+ respectively).

This seems a little too steep considering I used to pay less than £10 for a bolt on that gives me unlimited data. Heck, I could use my phone as a modem and still not breach the fair usage policy.

So, I'm hoping that I was silly enough to miss some sort of package for unlimited data or some form of package (not something as ridiculous as 60 odd ringgit for 500MB).

Hope to hear some good news and thanks in advance!

WTB CHARGER for wireless router

Right.
QUESTION about BIS

Hi there. Forgive me for my ignorance, but I couldn't find an answer with a quick google. All of my crack<s>whore</s>berry friends are back in the UK and it's too dificult to reach them. So I have to trouble you guys here for some info

I was made to understand that the BIS works independently from the telco's server...which actually makes the connection faster. I've read a bit about how well it compresses stuff, blah blah so on so forth.

So to make it simpler, let's have a scenario. There are two bb devices. BB1 and BB2. BB1 has 3G with HSDPA in certain areas and BB2 can only go up to edge. Let's say both phones subscribe to BIS. When loading a page or dling/uploading something from the net, which phone would be faster?

I am now constantly on the go with a growing need to check my email often (would probably need push), going online to google things and sending out documents from my email (attachments of pdf, word or powerpoint). I'm hoping a BB would sort out this problem for me.

Currently an Xperia user. I have the office mobile thingy, so I can edit word (limited) on the fly, and look at presentation slides (without the ability to edit). Can a BB allow me to do the same things if not better? Like edit Power Point Slides perhaps?

With regards to the BIS, if I were to download a word/pdf/powerpoint document from my mail, would it be compressed as well?

I was just thinking to actually subscribe to the BIS but use it on my Xperia as there's a way around it. Any thoughts on that?

edit: Which keyboard would be the best for texting/writing long emails/editing documents?

Which includes the cans and a hard plastic carry case.

Price: RM180 Neg.

Warranty:It's brand new in box, so I guess it's for however long it's supposed to be?

Dealing method:Would much rather COD. Post...I might consider. COD around Ampang area or KL. Open for discussion.

Location of seller:Ampang

Contact method/details:Just drop me a pm.

Age of item:Er...brand spanking new?

---

Item(s) conditions: BRAND NEW!

Picture: Will upload once I get a picture and have the memory card with me. Use your imagination to think of something that's still in a box

Reason for sale:I bought one, and a friend gave me another. All in the same day. Lucky eh? So anyways, I decided to use the one my friend bought me, and sell the one I bought. Bought it in UK, but afaik, the warranty is covered worldwide. Besides, it's senn's. Not too often you'd have to send something for warranty. Not in my experience at least (and I've owned quite a number of headphones).

Other things about px100 in general. It is overrated in my opinion. The bass can be loud, but it is somewhat lacking in the mids and highs. Burning it in will help a bit and having an amp would most definitely benefit your ears. Lol.

Portapro vs PX100. If you're more of a basshead. Go with the porta pro. Otherwise, the PX100 is more balanced. Not to mention much more comfortable to wear.

Too much information I think. Do your own reviews peeps!

ps: I would really appreciate not having "PM me best price plz". Gimme an offer and I will consider

Those Going to the University of Aberdeen

Hello all

Lately we've noticed that a lot of our students are at lost when first arriving in Aberdeen. The lucky ones would already have friends/family living there, while others, go there with no idea of what's in store for them. To those few unfortunate souls, fear not, for we at the Malaysian Student Association of Aberdeen (MSAA) are here to assist you!

Feel free to ask anything. I will try my best to answer your questions. If you've any friends/family going there to study, please direct them to this thread. We hope to help other fellow Malaysians get accustomed to the life there with as little hitch as possible

And as the scots say it,

Cheers mate!

PS: Would it be too much to ask for this thread to be stickied? Just thought it might helpful for those intending to go there.

PPS: I'm currently in Malaysia, so those that would like to meet face to face to ask about anything, do drop me a PM and I'll see if I can make it

Transfer of Cash From Paypal

As the topic mentions, I've an account with paypal UK. However, I wish to transfer some funds to my Maybank account.

I tried doing a "Send Money" but I'm guessing it's only possible if the account I'm sending money to is another Paypal user (read up but they weren't being very clear about it) or a person with a bank account in the uk. Thought I could link my maybank to my paypal...But doesn't give the option of ther countries save for UK and US.

The thing is, I wanna send my other half some money, but the sum isn't great - probably about RM 100 or so (which makes it roughly 15 quids for me). This makes bank transfers ridiculous as the charges applied would make it... much more than it's supposed to be. So yeah.

Anyone has any other alternative? I've been trying to find a way around this but can't seem to work it out.

Another thought: If I open another Paypal (but base it in Malaysia) would it be possible to pay to that account and then from there, withdraw the money from the account to my maybank? However, I've read around saying that it's not possible to withdraw money from the malaysian paypal. So yeah. In a bit of a situation right now.

If anyone can solve this little dilemma of mine, I'd be ever so grateful.

Oh and if this is not in the right section, I greatly appologise. Figured that resource center would be the best bet. Do move it if it's not right?

Thanks all

Need help finding cheap simfree phone in UK

Hi all

I'm currently in Aberdeen and am looking for a cheap phone to use with my 02 sim. I thought I could use it with my 903sh, but the idiot who unlocked it didn't really do a good job seeing as to how it says "unregistered" sim when I popped in my 02 sim. Tried to call the top up number to register my sim but couldn't call out. So yeah. It's still pretty much locked. I'm only gonna go with trusted unlockers in this forum from now on.

But I digress. I need recommendations on good shops/online retailers that stock up on PAYG phoens at competitive prices. I don't really care if it's used or new. Checked some places and found the w810i for 80 pounds. Was hoping for something cheaper than that. I googled but there's just far too many to look at - was hoping on the guidance of the more learned of our forumers here.

For reference, I am currently in Aberdeen so if anyone is particularly familiar with the area around here, I would be extremely grateful for their guidance in this matter.

Cheers!

Phone with WLAN

Hi all

I've been going around the web trying to find a list of phones with wifi support. Can't seem to find any though. From what I know, the N91, N80, E65, 6086 has wifi support. However, I don't think this is a comprehensive list.

Other users care to contribute to this? At least this way we can make a list.

I'm looking for a phone with wifi so I can IM when in Uni and check my email on the go. So if there's a budget together with it it'll be great!

Thanks in advance

edit: Phone List with WiFI

Nokia
6086
6301
E51
E60
E61/i
E65
N80
N81
N91
N93/i
N95

SE
W960
P990i
P1i

Lappie Good for AutoCad

Hi all

Just thought I'd ask...Since there's no harm in asking. I'm assuming that the gc is sufficient to run autocad smoothly (and photoshop too?) as well as do some light gaming.

Right?

I'm looking at the A100-2112E specifically or perhaps the M100-2012E.

Apart from these two lappies, anything else that's good? An HP or compaq perhaps?

ps: between a Toshiba and a Compaq/Hp, which would you get and why? Which is more durable?

Thanks all!

Random Jokes

I was bored. So decided to find some jokes. Some are old classics. Some are pretty new. But most of them I found funny

Sorry for any repost. Just sharing the laughs here

QUOTE

An Amish boy and his father were visiting a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and back together again. The boy asked his father, "What is this, Father?" The father [never having seen an elevator] responded "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life, I don't know what it is."

While the boy and his father were watching wide-eyed, an old lady in a wheel chair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched small circles of lights with numbers above the walls light up. They continued to watch the circles light up in the reverse direction.

The walls opened up again and a beautiful 24-year-old woman stepped out. The father said to his son, "Go get your mother."

QUOTE

A taxi passenger tapped the driver on the shoulder to ask him a question. The driver screamed, lost control of the car, nearly hit a bus, went up on the footpath, and stopped centimetres from a shop window.

For a second everything went quiet in the cab, then the driver said, "Look mate, don't ever do that again. You scared the daylights out of me!" The passenger apologized and said, "I didn't realize that a little tap would scare you so much. "The driver replied, "Sorry, it's not really your fault. Today is my first day as a cab driver. I've been driving a hearse for the last 25 years."

QUOTE

The preacher's wife was making Sunday dinner, when the preacher walked in the house and says "that ham smells wonderful." His wife replies "That's a Dam-Ham." The preacher was surprised by his wife's use of profanity. She showed him the wrapper and explained that was the brand name of the ham. They sat down for dinner and the preacher says to his son, "Son, pass me the dam-ham." and his son replies, "that's the spirit, Pop, now pass me the fcking potatoes"

QUOTE

A man in a bar sees a friend at a table, drinking by himself. Approaching the friend, he comments, "You look terrible. What's the problem?" "My mother died in June, and left me $10,000." said the friend. "Gee, that's tough," he replied. "Then in July," the friend continued, "My father died, leaving me $50,000." The man looking concerned says, "Wow. Two parents gone in two months. No wonder you're depressed." The friend continues, "And last month my aunt died, and left me $15,000." "Three close family members lost in three months??? How sad!!!" "Then this month,..." continued, the friend, "Nothing! Not a single dime!"

QUOTE

The other day I went to the local religious book store, where I saw a HONK IF YOU LOVE JESUS bumper sticker. I bought it and put it on the back bumper of my car, and I'm really glad I did. What an uplifting experience followed!

I was stopped at the light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord, and didn't notice that the light had changed. That bumper sticker really worked! I found lots of people who love Jesus. Why, the guy behind me started to honk like crazy. He must REALLY love the Lord because pretty soon, he leaned out his window and yelled, "Jesus Christ!" as loud as he could. It was like a football game with him shouting, "GO JESUS CHRIST, GO!!!"

Everyone else started honking, too, so I leaned out my window and waved and smiled to all of those loving people. There must have been a guy from Florida back there because I could hear him yelling something about a sunny beach, and saw him waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. I asked my two kids what that meant. They kind of squirmed, looked at each other, giggled and told me that it was the Hawaiian good luck sign. So, I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign back.

Several cars behind, a very nice man stepped out of his car and yelled something. I couldn't hear him very well, but it sounded like, "Mother trucker," or "Mother's from there." Maybe he was from Florida, too. He must really love the Lord. A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and were walking toward me. I bet they wanted to pray, but just then I noticed that the light had changed to yellow, and stepped on the gas. And a good thing I did, because I was the only driver to get across the intersection. I looked back at them standing there. I leaned way out the window, gave them a big smile and held up the Hawaiian good luck sign as I drove away.

Smallest Symbian?

I'm interested in getting a second phone. Since I've never had a symbian, I thought of getting one.

The thing is, my primary phone is already uber big.

So I'd like to know what's the smallest S60 phone around...

I've the 6600 and the 6670 in my head now...Can't really think of any other phone atm...

Oh and listing out the pros and cons of each model would help immensely

Thanks guys

Broadband providerTmNet
ISP/package: Package 88
Location: Ampang
Have you called your ISP's helpline?:
Even if I did, they wouldn't know what to ask.

Personal equipment
Modem: TP-LINK (Brand) Model TD-8800
Router: Router cum modem
Firewall used: Basic windows thingy

Problem details
First occurence of problem: Just realized it's my modem/router's problem when borrowed my friend's modem
Problem frequency: Every single time I connect

Problem description:

It seems that my modem/router restricts my dl speed. Or not. I've zero knowledge on these type of things. What I've noticed is that I cannot DL anything while surfing. Both would suffer.

If I'm lucky, my dling wld continue, and I can't surf. If I'm not, I can't surf OR dl anything. Initially I thought it was streamyx's problem. Then my friend wanted me to check if his modem was working...It's the bundled one with streamyx. Don't remember the brand anymore

Anyway, what I wanna point out is that when I used his modem, I could DL stuff (on BitComet as well as Ares) AND surf at the same time without compromising on my surfing or my dl.

So yeah. I'm pretty sure now that it's my modem/router that's at fault.

So my question is, can I fix this problem? Or do I need to get a new modem?

Coz having a 1mb connection without being able to ultilize it kinda sucks

So yeah

Thanks in Advance!

Situation:

My friend just acquired a second hand unit of a Sony Lappie (Model PCG-9518) that doesn't come with the battery...and I suspect the charger is a compatible one...Not a sony itself.

The thing is, she was watching a DVD, and after about an hour and a half, the whole computer just turned off...

It was running on AC at that point.
Modem Question: ADSL Light blinks

Hey guys. Quick question.

For refference, I'm using a TP LINK TD 8800 modem.

Kay so here's the problem. I was surfing the other day when it suddenly just rained which was followed almost immediately by a string of lightning fanfare.

Before I could disconnect my modem, I noticed that I dced.

So I tried hooking back on after it finished raining. However, I could not connect. Checked the modem and the adsl light is blinking.

I called telekom and they verified with me this morning that their port is ok.

So that pretty much leaves the modem right?

Anyway, what I wanna know is if it's possible for my modem to be fried, yet still be able to turn on?

Another point to note is that my adsl light blinks even when the phone line isn't plugged in...Is that normal?

I just need a quick answer before I go back to the agent I got it from.

Thanks y'all

Hey peeps, I did a little snooping around just now...And found out there are two types of remotes.
Official Vodafone Sharp 802SH Thread

The current problem with this phone is that on some firmwares, it does not allow the use of gprs/wap and sending or receiving of mms.
Some user's (not of this forum I believe) have the latest euro setting and could actually use their phones for wap/gprs/receiving mms. sending is still a bit of a problem though.

This phone however, can be used for video calling via 3G (duh).

According to Volfeed-sensei, a friend of his managed to unlock the phone in KLCC at a shop called Dr Mobile Clinic (It should be correct, have yet to confirm 100%). Estimated cost is about RM80-100.

None of our unlockers here apparently have the latest firmware for the 802 that will allow for unlocking said features.

These are the settings I have gotten from the 902/903 forum. It is said to work with the 802. Not sure if this is the latest though. My thanks goes to teh original poster of this message. I believe it is hotcoklat. Volfeed-sensei said that the settings by atih007 is the one that his friend used. But I am unsure if it is the same.

Anyhow, here it is:

QUOTE

For Maxis non 3G user Wap & MMS setting:

1) Messaging --Mail setting --MMS setting --MMS Accounts.
