Never heard of usenet before?

Don't worry, most people have not either.

It's obscurity is why it is so awesomely fast, as downloads over usenet don't attract too much attention from Screamyx. Traffic through usenet is not shaped, so you get to download as the maximum speed your line can handle.

How fast is fast?
On my home connection (1mbps Screamyx) i always download at 80-100kBps (Max Speed). At my parent's home (1.5mbps Screamyx) i download at 140-150kBps (Max Speed). Sometimes in a place i can't tell you about (with a 150+mbps shared pipe) i download at an average of 3500kBps going up to 8000kBps.

Why usenet?
Because as you all know, torrent traffic is slow. On the uber fast line i was talking about, torrent downloads rarely go over 100kBps, because the network admins shape torrent traffic.

Since very few people use the usenet, network admins don't care too much about it, and you get unthrottled speeds.

What can i download off usenet?
Anything and everything. You just need to find these little files called NZBs that will point your usenet software to the correct files to download.

You can check out NZB Matrix to see what files you can get off usenet. You can also try the usenet search engine over at Binsearch.info.

In fact, many files are released on usenet before they get released on torrents.

How do i sign up?
You can first test it out with a free trial over at News Hosting

How do i download
If you are using windows, a simple and easy to use program will be NZB-O-Matic.

For a more advanced program, you can also try SABNzbd+.

Where do i get the files to download?
Like i said earlier, you can try:

Binsearch.info
of just run a Google search with "NZB" added to the search terms.

How much does it cost?
It costs about USD10 per month for the basic lite package on Newshosting, which gives you 20 connection and 20gb per month.
For the unlimited plan is costs USD15, and you can download as much as you want every month.
