Was their third purchaser of the anticipated book. Bought with staff discount. Retails at RM99.90. You have the option of getting either the US Doubleday publisher edition or the UK version. Personally, I think the US version look spiffier. And three cheers for early opening MPH KLIA.

I'm not sure what the deal is with MPH, but Kinokuniya preorders for this book is entitled for 30% discount off that RM99.90 price. Gonna use that discount later to get the UK Edition. for everyone's info, only hardcover editions are available now.

Later on at 2pm today, will be logging in into my Amazon account and purchase the Kindle Edition, USD9.99. Delivery will be instantaneous of course, via Amazon Digital Locker. That way, I can keep the hardcovers pristine in the house library.

Will Robert Langdon be tossing cryptex in the air again or looking for antimatter timebombs again? From the cover, looks like it's in the States in the Capitol revolving around the Freemasons. Delicious!

Oh, did I mention that the US Doubleday Edition looks absolutely gorgeous? Sprinkled with Mason glyphs and symbol it is!

Bluetooth Headsets: Stereo & Telephony for iPhone

[center][/center]

Welcome! On this thread, we talk about headsets that work with the iPhone, after the introduction of iPhone OS3.0. I'll start myself with the units I have in hand and how they perform on my iPhone 3G.

For the mono telephony BT headsets, I have tested and own these:-

[center]
Sony Ericsson HBH-660[/center]

Pairs and discovered by the iPhone without much fuss, well...since the iPhone 2.0 days. IIANM, Caller ID is not passed to the little LCD screen on the set itself. Size is the second largest in the mono/single-ear headsets in my collection, but plenty comfy. Occasional call drops, but call when connected, is clear. Volume rocker switch is easy to access and press.

[center]
Jabra BT125[/center]

Pairs and discovered by the iPhone without much fuss too since the 2.0 days. The smallest of the single-ear headset I have. But because of its size, the circular part that clings to your ear tend to not clutch nicely to ears and tend to pop off. Volume rocker switch is small as well, making it hard to adjust on the fly.

[center]
Logitech Mobile Freedom[/center]

Initially having difficulty pairing with the iPhone. Had to reinitiate pairing a couple of times before the pairing sticks. Audio pickups are below average, and sound received on the other side is poor. Headset is largish, hence tend to droop or weigh down on your ear after a while. Foam covering tend to crumble after long usage, probably because of sweat absorption. Volume rocker is in the form of that circular symbol around the Logitech logo, and stiff/hard to press. AVOID AT ALL COST!

[center]
Logitech Mobile Express[/center]

Pairs and discovered by the iPhone without fuss, a welcome change from the crappy Mobile Freedom. Small in design but feels nice on the ear. Build quality is cheapish however. TWO-button control instead of the traditional 3 may confuse user (volume up, volume down, pair/power button now has its own unique combination presses on these two buttons). Great audio reception and sound comes out great as well on the other side. Fits the ear comfortably with that earplug.

[center]
Playstation Bluetooth Headset[/center]

Pairs and discovered by the iPhone without fuss. Elegant design. Glows red around the mic mute ring. Comfortable on the ears. Great audio reception and sound comes out nice on the other side as well. A good fit into the ears thanks to its design. Not too heavy and feels just right on the ears. You may want to save this for the PS3 alone, as the headset is more worthwhile using it on the PS3 with its High Quality setting, unavaillable other than on the PS3 itself.

Now let's dive into the STEREO side of the Bluetooth headset/headphones. First up:-

[center]
iTech clip R35[/center]

Versatile in the sense that you can use the provided earphones or supply your own. Pairs and discovered by the iPhone with no fuss. The blinking blue light may be a tad annoying. And since the sound quality is dependent on the earphones you use, it varies. As for the quality of the transmission itself, compared with the other two I'm about to list, shrill and tinny. Built like a cheap oversized clip. Buttons hard to push and tiny. AVRCP function on the iPhone works only for Play/Pause/Stop and answering calls.

[center]
Sony DR-BT140Q[/center]

Lightweight and clips onto your ears. Pairs and discovered by the iPhone with no fuss. Great build quality and looks exceptionally sleek. Comfortable as well, you tend to forget it is there. Price RM269. Audio quality transmission is excellent. AVRCP functions on the iPhone works only for the Play/Pause/Stop and answering calls. Audio/tunes fades out as calls comes in. Sound quality is full and equivalent to Sennheiser PX series. Volume up/down buttons as well as pressing the toggle In to pause/stop may takes getting used to, but using these babies in public and look like an almost normal person (not like a dork!:p) is worth the hassle. Call quality is excellent and sound received on the other side is great as well, receiver did not realise I'm talking on a BT headset at all.

[center]
Sony DR-BT50[/center]

The headphone to get for the uncompromising audiophile out there. Sounds awesome and full body, surprising on a BT headphone. Pairs and discovered by the iPhone with no fuss. Awesome build quality. AVRCP works only for the Play/Pause/Stop and answering calls. Price RM699. Volume up/down buttons as well as the pause/stop button may take getting used to for its size, but for the audio quality it gives, I'll learn it! May be a little too obvious/showy in public when worn because of its size. Call quality is excellent as well, and sound received is great, receiver did not think I was on a BT headphone. LEd blinking on the side may annoy others.

If there is anything else I remember, I'll edit them in later. Please add your experiences with your own Bluetooth headsets/headphones, but for me, for the day of light travel and remaining inconspicuous, the Sony DR-BT140Q is my choice. For the days of not wanting any audio compromises, BT50 is the way to go. For days where I would need to answer calls hands-free, I still use the wired iPhone cable I have, but if I had to choose between the single-ear mono headsets, I'd go for the Aliph Jawbone. But since it is not in my possession right now, I'll pick the Mobile Express. But most if not all the time, I tend to have and use the wired hands-free cable to my iPhone

Also, anyone with an iPhone 3G[S], you are most welcomed to post your thoughts, impressions and reviews here.

Forward, march!

[center]NEW INFO![/center]

For those keeping tab on the iPhone 3G[S] scene, some good news. Remember this link? Before this it shows which country provides unlocked iPhones based on their carriers. Now, it has been updated to include columns on which carrier provides MMS and Internet Tethering as well. I would presume, since these two new columns marks as new updates, the state of "which carrier/country provides unlocked iPhones" are also updated as well, and the list is now updated to include the state of unlocks for the 3G[S] as well.

If that is the case, these following countries are the countries are currently still providing unlocked iPhones to their customers, and presumably the same state of unlocks for the upcoming 3G[S]:-

[center]Countries with officially unlocked iPhone 3G, and therefore presumably, the iPhone 3G[S][/center]

CODE

Belgium(Mobistar), Czech Republic(O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone), Greece(Vodafone, Cosmote), Italy(TIM, Vodafone), Luxembourg (Vox, LUXGSM), Russia(Megafon, MTS, Beeline), Turkey(Turkcell), Hong Kong(3), Macau(3), Malaysia(Maxis), New Zealand(Vodafone), Singapore(SingTel), Taiwan(Chunghwa Telecom), Thailand(Truecom), Saudi Arabia(Mobily), UAE(Etisalat), South Africa(Vodacom)

There are a list of countries whose carrier provides official unlocks for their iPhones even though the initial state of the iPhone is locked, but I wont bother posting those. The process of these unlocks REQUIRES the presence of these iPhones to be within the country which provides these unlocks, and such logistics and planning can throw a lot of the planning off. My targets are the iPhones from countries above because they are more than likely, because of their law, REQUIRES their iPhones to remain unlocked officially.

Among the countries listed above, here are their release dates:-

[center]First Wave[/center]
CODE

Italy - June 19th

[center]Second Wave[/center]
CODE

Belgium - June 26th

[center]Third Wave Confirmed[/center]
CODE

New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore - July 10th

[center]Third Wave[/center]
CODE

Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Malaysia, South Africa - July 2009

The rest are on the Fourth Wave which is in August 2009.

--

I think IIANM, it has been stated that the new unlock will disable Youtube, so it is a toss-up between wanting the new features of 3.0 + Cydia or Youtube itself. Weigh your options.

Correct me if I am wrong.

How to use Amazon Kindle 2 in Malaysia

I've just procured myself an Amazon Kindle 2, and seeing how I'm still tuned to the American time after the last trip, might as well write a review on how the Amazon Kindle 2, and possibly clear the air of the myth and possible misinformation on the the unit itself.

[center]

The Amazon Kindle 2[/center]

[center]Features:-

[youtube]XdpWnmawiBI[/youtube]

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Slim: Just over 1/3 of an inch, as thin as most magazines

Lightweight: At 10.2 ounces, lighter than a typical paperback

Wireless: 3G wireless lets you download books right from your Kindle, anytime, anywhere; no monthly fees, service plans, or hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots

Books in Under 60 Seconds: Get books delivered in less than 60 seconds; no PC required

Improved Display: Reads like real paper; now boasts 16 shades of gray for clear text and even crisper images

Longer Battery Life: 25% longer battery life; read for days without recharging

More Storage: Take your library with you; holds over 1,500 books

Faster Page Turns: 20% faster page turns

Read-to-Me: With the new text-to-speech feature, Kindle can read every newspaper, magazine, blog, and book out loud to you, unless the book's rights holder made the feature unavailable

Large Selection: Over 285,000 books plus U.S. and international newspapers, magazines, and blogs available

Low Book Prices: New York Times Best Sellers and New Releases $9.99, unless marked otherwise
[/center]

1. The device is priced at USD359 and ships free within USA if can wait the shipping period of 3 days. For my stay, I had to rush it to overnight, for an additional USD20, raking up the price to USD379. The unit comes with a Quick-guide manual, a USA two-prong charger head that allows the provided USB cable to charge the device. Charge port is at the bottom of the unit.

2. I've also added this to my purchase:-

[center][/center]

which reflects the item it holds inside nicely with that Amazon Kindle logo outside the cover.

3. The process of which to register and start using your Kindle 2, particularly for usage OUTSIDE the coverage of Sprint's EVDO/3G Whispernet feature is pretty tricky. At first boot up of the device, while within coverage of Whispernet, you are offered to register your Kindle 2 wirelessly via Whispernet. This allows coupling of your Kindle 2 to a particular email address which holds an Amazon account. For American users, this account should hold no problems whatsoever since purchase of electronic books via Amazon requires a valid American-based credit card with validated US address to that particular credit card. There are several options to bypass this, one such option is to get a prepaid or virtual credit card with address based in the US, and topping up credit into that card using Malaysian credit card. This is tedious and heavily dependant on the third-party service provider doing the credit top-up to that account, which may incur additional charges.

4. A simpler way to alleviate problem mentioned in #3 is registering your Kindle 2 as if it is outside wireless coverage. But first you need to prepare a couple of things.

i) Register an email account that is devoid of any geographical markings/indications. This is usually marked by ***@yahoo.co.jp or similar, which marks geographical region. Tying your Kindle to an Amazon account linked to an email such as this will automatically disable your ability to purchase or download free books onto your Kindle 2. In my case, I used a freshly-made Gmail.com account, which is registered under US as the region when asked..

ii) You will also need two Amazon accounts. One is used to purchase Amazon gift cards, while the other is the receiving end of that gift card. For the Amazon account used to purchase the Gift cards, you can go ahead and register with Amazon, your Malaysian credit card. Let's name this Amazon Account A. Go through the registering process, which will tie up an email address to this Amazon account, Account A. Once that is done, register a second account, let's name this Amazon Account B. For Account B, use that freshly-made account from step i), and during registration, on ANY OCCASION when the registering process prompts for a geographical location, make sure you use a VALID US address. Google if you need to.

iii)Use Account A to purchase an Amazon Gift Card and when asked, emailed it either to yourself, or to the email attached to Amazon Account B. The only thing you need to make sure is that you need to make sure you can properly access the mailbox of that email address(es) so that you can retrieve the Gift Card code so that you can redeem them.

iv)Once you have retrieve the code, apply and redeem it on Account B, by logging into Account B, click "Your Account", and under "Payment" section, click "Apple Gift Certificate/Card to Your Account". Make sure the credit is redeem in by clicking "Your Account" and under the "Payment" section, click "View Gift Certificate/Card Balance".

v)Register your Kindle ONLINE by going to the "Digital Content" section in the "Your Account", and click "Manage your Kindle". Check at the back of your Kindle, and enter your Kindle's serial number to register.Make sure your Kindle is registered to Account B, not A. If you do make that mistake, you can click "Deregister" and rectify the situation. Under this section, will also appear the iPhone[s] and iPod Touch[es] registered to Account B. You can use your iPhone or iPod Touch to download and read your Kindle electronic material by downloading the "Kindle for iPhone" app from Apple's Appstore and registering your iPhone/iPod Touch to Account B. Your iPhone/iPod Touch will then sync with Account B and all its purchased content, and you will be able to download your Kindle-purchased content to these devices as well! This is useful when you dont have your Kindle with you and want to continue on reading your favourite books on these secondary devices. Bear in mind though, reading on iPhones or iPod Touches will result on eye-strain after prolonged period of time. The Kindle is designed to mimic book pages with its electronic ink and eliminate this problem of eye-strain.

vi) Log into your Account B. Set up the 1-Click Payment Method, by entering your credit card details(credit card number, expiry date, CVV/CVV2 number), BUT use the same US address you have used to create Amazon Account B. What happens here is , because you have applied and credit the Gift card purchased from Account A into Account B, Amazon will not attempt to authorize the card until your Gift Card credit has depleted. So always keep your account credit above ZERO and you will be fine. The minimum amount of Gift card credit available for purchase from Amazon is USD5.

vii)Go ahead and purchase your first Kindle book. Since you are outside of the wireless Whispernet coverage, once you click the "Buy Now with 1-Click" button, your purchase will go into your digital locker. Under "Your Account"/ "Manage Your Kindle", scroll down to the "Your Order" list, and your Kindle Book will be listed there. Click on the "+" sign next to the title to expand it, and under the "No Wireless Coverage?" will the "Download to Computer" button. Click that, and once the download is complete, plug in your Kindle using the USB cable that comes with it, to the computer and drag-and-drop the downloaded file (in .azw format) into the "Document" folder on your Kindle. You can also download Mobipocket and/or .prc ebooks wherever you can find them (I got mine from www.feedbooks.com/mobile) and drag-and-drop them into the same "Document" folder as well. Once you have unplugged your Kindle from your computer, your Kindle will auto-refresh and your books will come listed as "New!" in the "Home" screen.

Voila! The key here is to make sure that Account B is devoid of any indication or address that points towards location outside of the USA, be it the email address registered to it (hence step i)), or the address used for the payment of the Kindle books (hence step ii)).

Besides its primary function as an excellent e-reader, Kindle 2 now also comes with Text-to-Speech, on supported Kindle books. Don't be mistaken, the Text-to-Speech is not dull or robotic, it mimics human speech and is very pleasant. Simply plug into a regular headphone/earbuds into your Kindle 2 and enjoy.

The Kindle 2 also able to play MP3s (non-DRM only) and surf the web, but web-surfing is strictly on the Whispernet network, hence therefore not available in Malaysia. But before you go ahead and start transferring your MP3s into your Kindle 2, bear in mind that Kindle 2 only holds 2GB of storage space, 1.4GB made available for the end user.

Also, since this process I have described also allots credit into your account, you can now buy other digital content on the Amazon, such as DRM-free high-bitrate MP3s or whole albums off Amazon! This nice side-effect allows you to purchase music off Amazon, which is priced at much cheaper pricetag compared to similarly tagged music off Apple's iTunes. Only please remember to keep your credit above ZERO, otherwise Amazon will start authorizing your credit card details on Account B and complicates things later.

Other than that, enjoy! I have been having tons of fun with my Kindle 2, and I bring it everywhere with me now. It is an excellent companion, and a great way (for me at least) to recapture my long lost love for reading. Kindle books are also priced WAAAAAAYYYYYY cheaper than the actual physical copy, and you are also doing your bit in helping the environment and greening your routine. IF you are hesitant, or am not sure what selections are available on the Amazon Kindle Store, check out what's available for your perusal here. PDF-reading is also available, there are two methods, free and 10-cents-per-transfer method. If anyone wants me to elaborate on that, I shall post that later, otherwise I believe Kindle book reading alone will eat a lot of your time, for the reading junkies among us.

I offer to the populace here to use the opportunity I have going to the place I travel to, to allow purchases be made and to be brought back along by me once I'm back in this country. This opportunity starts right from tomorrow, where I am departing to Sydney and Brisbane, and ends right up to my return from Stockholm and New York on June the 2nd.

Items up for grabs are mostly those of which I am personally interested in, and will frequent to, once I am at these cities, namely Apple-related items, electronics/gadgets and videogaming-related merchandises as well. But first the itinerary.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

[center][/center]

From the 11th till 16th of May, the Sydney - Brisbane run. Available to roam around to do purchases on May 12th[ENTIRE DAY] and May 13th[10am till 3pm ONLY] in Sydney, and May 14th[ENTIRE DAY] and May 15th[10am till 4pm ONLY] while in Brisbane. Venue/location of where purchases will be mostly be:-

1 - while in Sydney, Kings St., focusing mostly on Apple Store Kings St., and the surrounding area EBGames(for videogames-related items) and JB Hifis(videogames, and limited amount of Apple- and gadget-related items)as well. These are the main shopping locations, but they are not restricted to these locations only, on [ENTIRE DAY] dates, I may be able to look around the close vicinity of the area with the help of public transportation.

2 - while in Brisbane.....well, technically, since I'll be in Surfers Paradise, getting to Brisbane will be quite a distance away. There will be small stores, such as EBGames in Surfers Paradise, but the larger ones, I reckon, will be in Brisbane CBD itself. Unless the need is urgent, I may take this chance to just laze around the beach instead of picking up your orders.

[center][/center]

From the 18th till 20th of May, the Melbourne run. Available to roam around to do purchases on May 19th[12pm till 6pm ONLY]. I am pretty familar with Melbourne CBD area, with focus mostly on the Apple-related store at Flinders St., the numerous JB Hifis(videogames and limited amount of Apple- and gadget-related items) around the area, as well as an EBGames Experience Center(videogames-related items) there.

[center][/center]

From May 24th till June 2nd, the Stockholm - New York run. Available to roam around to do purchases on May 29th[ENTIRE DAY] and May 30th[10am till 6pm]. This would be the good opportunity for Apple users here to make use of my presence there to ransack the 3 large Apple Stores there in Fifth Avenue, West 14th St., and SOHO, of any items you had previously wished to have but restricted by the import restriction, postal declination, or similarly related issues. Also, since Manhattan is a well-connected island, I should be able to roam around these different areas to get any other Apple-related items like specific cases (leathermade like the Mac-Cases for laptops), with offices of these manufacturers located in New York. The more obvious items, such as physical iTunes Gift cards, those can be easily be purchased at the Apple Stores there themselves. Even other non-Apple related stuff, but audio-related items as well, such as headphones, particularly Grado for example, are also purchasable here in much cheaper pricetag, since they are located here.

For other non-Apple related items, there are items such as electronics and gadgets from J&R and B&H Photo, not to mention the number of Best Buy retail stores available. Other possible locations would also be the FYE (for Blu-ray titles), Virgin Megastores(Blu-rays and videogames), but for those focusing on the videogames side of things, there is of course, the numerous Gamestop retail chainstores to get your videogaming items. Also of possible interest are the Playstation Network cards with credits on them, these I believe are obtainable through Gamestop stores and IIANM, 7-Elevens there. I myself am excited to pick up titles like Infamous for PS3 while I'm there, and see if there are any other promotional items and discounted materials that I can scoop up while I'm there. Again, these are the main shopping locations, but they are not restricted to these locations only, I may be able to look around the close vicinity of the area with the help of public transportation. Moving around in New York gets easier once you've mastered the subway system.

These are the shortlisted venues and locations, but they are not the end of it. Should you be able to pinpoint other locations where your items can be purchased, list them down to me, and I will try and hunt it down for you there. Also, please, please, please, limit your purchases to items of sensible size/volume, I will not make myself carry a MacPro back for you just because you think it is cheaper in these location and ask me to bring it back for you. Sensible size would be items like Blu-ray discs and PS3/Xbox 360/Wii games (they are nice, compact and small), a WD Sharespace (box is still reasonably small), but I am not accepting a request to get a Blu-ray player anymore, unlike the previous NYC Tumpang/Kirim event.

As a disclaimer,
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

if the items gets flagged down by customs, responsibility lies with the party purchasing the item(you) to clear them. I will try my best to use whatever means I can to avoid such an occasion, but if the worse thing happen, I relinquish the responsibility to clear them for you, unless you ask me to act on your behalf to clear them with additional fees on top of the purchase price.

Well, there you have it. List down what items you would possibly need, and where to get them, and I'll see what I can do. For further details, PM ONLY.

P/S: Inclusion of "Apple-related items" in this offer, in a largely videogames-centric section of this forum, is due to the fact that I am opening this offer to the Apple Byte section as well. An Apple-Byte thread of nearly similar content have been posted there to reflect this.

I have to add this disclaimer for this, in lieu of the current events happening right now:-

I will be with the team piloting the plan on MH090 and MH091 going to, and coming back from New York for this trip. As you all have read in the papers, the flight MH091 which came back from New York has been home-quarantined for a week in regards to the two passengers found carrying the AH1N1 Influenza virus. If such thing occurs to me when I get back on the 3rd of June next month, I may be stopped from any outside contact, placed on house quarantine for a period of 1 week. If this happens and does not suit your preference on retrieving your items (you want your items ASAP, for example), then I cannot help you. If nothing happens and the flight is clean, then it is business as usual, they will most probably give a minimum of 5 days off after such a long trip for crew rest. We can arrange pickups of your items within that period.

The NYC Kirim Thread + AH1N1 Update

[center][/center]

In this thread, I offer you an opportunity. I offer to the populace here to use the opportunity I have going to the place I travel to, to allow you to get items overseas and to be brought back along by me once I'm back in this country.

LYN iPhone Summer Blockbuster Movie TT

Summer is almost upon us, and starting from next month, as per tradition, summer blockbuster movies are lining up to woo our intentions, our money, and our interest in them. Since Nokia's departure to Melbourne, it has been a while since we had an iPhone TT, so this thread is posted to gauge and gather info on whether iPhone users/potential users in here are interested to gather and attend another edition of the iPhone TT. But instead of the usual meet-and-greet at usual haunts, I have this idea of holding a TT + Movie gathering to spice things up a bit. This very thread serves to gauge the interest in such a TT, and if there are, to also determine the suitable date, venue, and if the idea of a Movie TT is sound to everyone here, the movie of choice.

I am keen on the idea of a Movie TT itself, where we can blend having fun at the movies and a makan/drink TT at a venue of choice. The after-effects of watching a movie with a groups of friends is usually condusive to generate camaraderie and fellowship, so a TT right after a movie would help do just that.

The movies themselves, here are the candidates, based on their projected release date in Malaysia:-

[center]
Star Trek - Release date May 8th 2009 - Rated PG-13
[youtube]sga-mHKw2X0[/youtube]

Star Trek: Synopsis - *Warning: Movie spoilers ahead!*

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

From the first scene the Star Trek universe as we knew it has changed forever. Kirk is now an angry wayward young man looking for trouble. He fights with Starfleet cadets in Iowa when a Capt. Pike takes an interest in him, finding out he's the only 'genius level repeat offender in the Midwest'. Pike dares Kirk to join Starfleet, goading him with the legacy of his father. A young Spock is tortured over his mixed heritage, the emotions he fights to control and the very different paths he has before him. He must choose between the Vulcan world which will never accept him as anything other than 'half human' and Starfleet Academy, worlds away from everything he has ever known. We meet Dr 'Bones' McCoy and a young linguist Uhura at the Academy and watch as a headstrong Kirk wreaks havoc on Starfleet's rules and regulations.Kirk's antics culminate in his reprogramming the famous Kobayashi Maru test and consequent disciplinary hearing. He comes face to face with the scenario creator, Mr Spock. As this unfolds; a vicious Romulan from the future is hell bent on vengeance upon 'Ambassador' Spock and nothing will get in his way. The fleet is called to arms as peril aims at the heart of the Federation and Kirk and Spock are irrevocably pulled together to save the galaxy - for the first time.

Terminator Salvation - Release date May 28th 2009 - Rated PG-13
[youtube]pcg5t0mT8V4[/youtube]

Terminator Salvation: Synopsis - *Warning: Movie spoilers ahead!*

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright, a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

Angels & Demons - Release date May 14th 2009 - Rated ??
[youtube]HrnJ0CsENV4[/youtube]

Angels & Demons: Synopsis - *Warning: Movie spoilers ahead!*

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

When Langdon discovers evidence of the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati - the most powerful underground organization in history - he also faces a deadly threat to the existence of the secret organization's most despised enemy: the Catholic Church. When Langdon learns that the clock is ticking on an unstoppable Illuminati time bomb, he jets to Rome, where he joins forces with Vittoria Vetra, a beautiful and enigmatic Italian scientist. Embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt through sealed crypts, dangerous catacombs, deserted cathedrals, and even to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth, Langdon and Vetra will follow a 400-year-old trail of ancient symbols that mark the Vatican's only hope for survival.

Angels and Demons was the reclusive authors third novel after he gave up his job as an English teacher. It tells the story of Langdons brush with a shadowy secret society, the Illuminati, and his frantic quest for the worlds most powerful energy source, in the company of a beautiful Italian physicist whose father, a brilliant physicist, has been murdered.

The team behind the global phenomenon "The Da Vinci Code" returns for the highly anticipated "Angels & Demons," based upon the bestselling novel by Dan Brown. Tom Hanks reprises his role as Harvard religious expert Robert Langdon, who once again finds that forces with ancient roots are willing to stop at nothing, even murder, to advance their goals.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - Release date June 26th 2009 - Rated PG-13
[youtube]h2rB99T1CQo[/youtube]

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: Synopsis - *Warning: Movie spoilers ahead!*

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Revenge is coming. Decepticon forces return to Earth on a mission to take Sam Witwicky prisoner, after the young hero learns the truth about the ancient origins of the Transformers. Joining the mission to protect humankind is Optimus Prime, who forms an alliance with international armies for a second epic battle.
[/center]

Personally, I'm leaning towards either Star Trek OR Terminator Salvation myself, as this allow ample time to prep for the details and interest, as well as arrangement for the movie-watching at the venue itself. Terminator Salvation would be ideal, since it would be a month away from now, so that gives more than enough time (I think) for attendees to mull things over before making any decision. Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen is 2 months away from today, so by the time this TT happens, the interest in it may have waned. However, it should not stop a second similar iPhone Movie TT with Transformers 2 as the chosen movie if anyone wants it.

I've experience handling and organizing movie events previously, from booking the entire hall of Gold Class at GSC Berjaya Times Square for the screening of Star Wars Episode III for the LYN PSP gathering at that time. 48 seats in the house, 48 attendees, we had the hall all to ourselves. I've also contacts on the inside, more on the TGV side than GSC (but that can be arranged) so that we could arrange advance ticket purchasing to secure good seats should this TT turns out in huge numbers. *I've organized the Matrix Revolutions 100-strong attendance movie-watching gathering at GSC Midvalley, complete with attendees wearing clothing themed to the movie (all black, we even have a forumer and a good friend attend complete with the Neo outfit!)*

Since this is based on when these movies opens, I would suggest the weekends of which these movie premieres. So:-

Star Trek opens May 8th on Friday, we can make it either 9th or 10th of May which is a Saturday or a Sunday.

Angels & Demons opens on May 14th on Thursday, we can make it either 16th or 17th of May which is a Saturday or a Sunday.

Terminator Salvation opens on May 28th on Thursday, we can make it either 30th or 31st of May which is a Saturday or a Sunday.

I'll leave Transformer 2 out of the possible list, since it is 2 months away, but the same rules may apply. The reason being making it on weekend is so that we can assure attendance, and so that attendees dont have to hurry over for other errands or appointments on the next day. If there are other days in which falls within the month of May that constitutes a public holiday that may be suitable for a candidate for a date for this possible iPhone Movie TT, please post them here as well.

Venue, I leave it up to you guys. Besides comfortable seats and good cinema circuit/hall of choice, since it is a TT after all, we'll need to adjourn to a makan/TT venue so that the usual activities of a TT can be done there. Suggestions on the venue, both of the movie itself, and the TT afterwards/or before, are definitely welcomed. We need all the info we can get here.

The rest, I leave it up to the crowd here to mull over. If the interest of a TT does not suit or not in the mind of you guys here, anything other suggestions are also most welcomes. The reason a Movie + TT is picked here is to offer variety to the usual meet-and-greet at Starbucks for the usual jailbreaks/themes intros/catching up sessions that usually happens at these TTs. EVERYONE IS WELCOMED, from the already veteran owners of the iPhone, to the on-the-fence potential consumers, to even those interested Windows-to-Mac switchers infact. If the response is encouraging, the choice of hall (Gold Class or normal hall seats) depends on the number of interested parties.

If there are interested parties, I'd appreciate if you could post your interest in which movie/date/venue/number or attendees, based on this template:-

CODE

Callsign/Forum name:
Preferred Movie:
Preferred Date:
Preferred Venue:
Possible number of attendees (including yourself):

The ball is on your court.

[center]Latest Update[/center]

I may have some bad news for this.

I've been offered and just now, finalised, a work trip to New York by a colleague. KUL-ARN-EWR-ARN-KUL. Trip starts off on the 18th and ends well into the early days of June, so I physically cannot be in KL to do this.

If we defer this TT to a week later on the weekend as well, that would be possible. I know I've been keen on the 30th and 31st as the possible candidate for this TT, but a chance to go to New York in the spring is a chance I cannot pass up. Plus, this may be the last chance the 777 is going there, after June, the 747 boys are taking it back. I hope everyone understand where I stand. I would want nothing more than to meet all of you guys, especially the familiar faces whom I've grown to respect and comfortable with so much, and new faces who I know would add valuable comradeship and camaraderie to the TT. But this New York trip is a one-a-year chance, and something like this coming my way, I feel I should not pass it up.

So here's the deal. We defer this to a week after 30th/31st May, which is the 6th/7th June 2009, and we go from there for the TT. Or if anyone is willing to take up my position here as the organizer and still make it as per the current date, that would work as well. But I would love to meet you guys, so I hope that deferred date is acceptable to you guys.

..........Please dont kill me......

P1 Wiggy: Overpromise & Underdeliver

Subscribed to the service using their Wiggy USB modem, under the Personal package. Being the eternal skeptic that I am, I grilled them thoroughly, especially with their claim of 10Mbps, of course under "best effort basis"

To those came to the first Hall at PC Fair to check out their download and upload speeds, and BELIEVE those speed test, either via their own speed.p1.com.my or the speedtest.net, you have been fooled and taken for a ride, myself included.

I signed on yesterday under the impression that their 10 Mbps under best effort basis is reasonable, after looking at their download speeds of 8Mbps while inside the hall. The ugly truth is this: They've set up a base station INSIDE the Hall to achieve those download speeds. Those are not the actual speeds, they are based on MAC-address-selected P1 Wiggy modems!

My own speedtest done shows these ugly truths. My area is right at the edge of coverage, and I get 2.4Mbps AT BEST. My trip while in the bus to KLCC with my trust netbook and Wiggy on, fluctuates between 1.4-1.9Mbs, and while at the water fountain infront of KLCC, only 1.5Mbps, nothing more. This is far from their claimed 10Mbps speed. I even done the speedtest on both Speedtest.net and P1's on INSIDE the Hall they are exhibiting, and guess what? CANNOT EVEN CONNECT! I went straight to their booth, and asked for the same person who handled my registration yesterday. After he himself am flustered about me being unable to log in while their Wiggy modems on their Dell runs perfectly fine, I was directed to 3 other person, where this ugly truth comes out. One handled the PR, the other on the connection side, and another from the technical side. From the technical personnel is where the truth comes out, that their Wiggy modems are not running as itself, but with the help of a base station INSIDE the HALL itself. That explains why only their Wiggy modems who are MAC-address selected are able to log in and run at those speeds, while customer-received Wiggy modems are lefft to run on the REAL TIME environmental difficulties.

Those three personnel, after admiitting this, suggested me monitoring the speeds in these few days so that they can try and rectify the situation, but after this enormous bullshitting on their behalf, I believe that nothing can be done to improve this, and I shall be exercising my right of cancelling this subscription package by 7 days, so I can get a full refund.

This is pathetic, pitiful and plain full-frontal outright lies by P1. All I am asking is them keeping to their word to their claims of best effort basis, even if I'm getting 5Mbps, I'll continue with this subscription. Claiming 10Mbps but only getting 1.5-2.5Mbps is not even "best effort", it's plain outright DAYLIGHT ROBBERY!

A fair warning to those interested with this. Dont be fooled by their claims and their speedtests inside the Pc Fair Hall. They's outright lied on these figures, and to pander to you, puts on those Money Chamber so that you feel that you get a fair deal out of this. Do not be fooled!

I'll keep anyone who is interested here up to date on how this progresses. I will also continually monitor the speeds I'm getting around KL wherever I go, and see if their claims of "10 Mbps on best effort basis" is even remotely true. Stay tuned!

Back To my Mac - The forgotten MobileMe feature

Release as part of the feature suite of MobieMe, "Back To my Mac" (shorthanded BTMM hereon) is a feature and I quote:-

QUOTE

...puts any remote Leopard-based Mac you use within easy reach. MobileMe finds your Mac computers over the Internet and displays them in the Leopard Finder on the Mac you’re using. So you can connect from anywhere with just a click. Edit and save documents, open applications, and move folders. With Back to My Mac Screen Sharing, you can control your remote Mac as though you’re sitting in front of it.

[center]

[youtube]gLwc_erraVE[/youtube]

Here's the link to the Quick Tour video.[/center]

My quest to get this feature working has hit brick walls after brick walls. At first, the modem/routers need to be compatible. tinkered with the DSL-520T modem, useless NAT/port forwarding capability. Replaced with the Netgear DG834G, which is reported as "supported" in the list of modem/routers for BTMM. MobileMe account? Check! I assumed at this point that we are ready to go!

.......and I forget the most important thing. Your setup at home may be BTMM-ready and all, but the #$%**&^ connection from where you are connecting remotely has to be compliant as well! Argghhhh, how did that escaped me!? I've this huge repository sitting at home, waiting to be accessed remotely, hell, I may be even stretching it with streaming iTunes via remote-access while I'm ou and about, but if I get file sharing and screen sharing that would already be good enough.

Anybody with a MobileMe account got this feature working? No cheating though, you cannot say you can access file and screen sharing by logging into the other Mac while on the same wireless network, that's simple enough. I'd like a remote-access, say from a different location to my Mac(and by default, the NAS I have at home) sitting at home.

The way I see it, it is not the fault of the feature itself, there are so many other variables to look at, such as ISPs blocking the service itself (it does take up resources and bandwidth), and the myriad of routers configurations that by itself complicates things when it comes to NAT-PMP/uPNP settings so that the two different Macs can "talk" to each other. Sigh........

[addedon]April 9, 2009, 2:45 pm[/addedon]LIGHTNING EDIT: I've tried this while I'm out at Starbucks KLCC, and although I get my Mac Mini to show on the "Devices" tab on the Finder window, any attempts to access it will be met with a "Connection failed" result. My Macbook Air, which I used to do this while at Starbucks, is backed up using Time Machine on the Time Capsule itself, and it is trying at regular intervals to connect to the Time Capsule AT HOME, to access the sparsebundle backup to initiate the Time Machine backup. That also met with "Backup failed" result.

I hope I'm making sense here, but either way, I dont see this as a good sign for BTMM to work.

As per the title, the new Mac Mini 2009 is in the house!

[center][/center]

[center]Specs as follows:-

*Processor 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
*L2 cache 3MB shared
*Memory 2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM; supports up to 4GB
*Hard drive 320GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm
*Optical drive 8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
*Graphics	NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of shared DDR3 SDRAM
*Ports - One FireWire 800 port; five USB 2.0 ports; mini-DVI output; VGA output (using optional adapter); Mini DisplayPort
*Audio - Built-in speaker, combined optical digital audio input/audio line in, combined optical digital audio output/headphone out
*Network Built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T (Gigabit)
*Wireless Built-in AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi (802.11n); built-in Bluetooth 2.1+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate)

I never keep my Mac STOCK, if I could help it. Upgraded it straightaway, with the help of the MacStudio guys with these "ingredients":-

WD Scorpio 5400rpm 500GB HDD

2 x 2GB Kingston 1066Mhz DDR3 RAM[/center]

But what about the keyboard and mouse? Never fear, diNovo Mini is here!

[center][/center]

Works beautifully with the Mac Mini, although not advertised as such from the Logitech website.

Add in the Mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter and a generic 3m VGA cable for video/image, and a generic single-RCA-to-stereo cable for audio,to the Bravia Z, that completes the equation. The pre-Santa Rosa White Macbook will be retired after serving excellently as a media server for my Wireless VOD+Backup, this new Mac Mini will take over that task. No more squinting into 13 inch screen, it's 40inch now, baby!

The Mac Mini is still restoring from the Time Machine backup within the Time Capsule, so it will take a while before it puts on its workshirt on and get to work.

In the mean time, I'm giddily anticipating a boost from the previous experience with the White Macbook particularly on the graphics department. GMA850 vs Geforce 9400M, no prize on which one wins here!

Stay tuned for more impressions!

Ingredient = Mac Mini + 4TB WD Sharespace NAS + Bravia Z + diNovo Mini for the ultimate living room computing
Intention = Comfortable from-the-couch computing plus proper desktop experience
Impressions = Coming Soon!

iPhone OS 3.0(OUT NOW!) + iPhone 3GS(Late July?)

[center][/center]

iPhone to preview iPhone OS 3.0 on March 17th.

The last time this happens, close to a year ago, when iPhone OS 2.0 was previewed, the new iPhone 3G comes shortly after.

Heads up to those who doubted the fact that a new iPhone is coming generally, and those who doubted my own forecast cynically before.

Logic and history dictates. Keep up or zip up. Just saying..........

[center]* * *[/center]

[center]Third Wave[/center]
CODE

Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa - July 2009

The rest are on the Fourth Wave which is in August 2009.

Sony Bravia Z KLV-40Z450A Impressions

[center]

Just got myself this model KLV-40Z450A, here are my impressions:-[/center]

1. I had the Bravia X 40" before, the KLV-40X200 and the KLV-40X350, and this Z beats them both, IMO, in terms of aesthetics and size. The "Midnight sky" bezel is dark blue in color, although it looks more towards black than blue. The bezel is "sprinkled" with tiny flecks of sparkling material that only shows itself upon close inspection, which lends itself to making this unit looking classy. Also good news to me is that, the speaker settings have been placed under the panel instead of by the two sides, reducing the width further. I'm space-challenged when it comes to the location of this unit, so it works even better with those additional tolerances.

2. The Z still uses the contemporary Sony-style navigation system, with pressing the subsequent buttons to access a function, and then stepping through them to access the deeper option tree. Only the new Bravia X incorporates the Xross MediaBar style ala PS3/PSP. This is a personal choice, but I'd prefer the old navigation system than the Xross Mediabar system. Reason being, I am using the Harmony ONE Universal Remote, and with the Xross MediaBar, programming the "Activities" into the Harmony ONE would be virtually impossible, not to mention, having to wait for the "Activities" actions to self-navigate itself through the Xross MediaBar system. Others may prefer this, but I've been spoiled by the Harmony ONE's excellent "Activities" one-button-turns-everything-on system.

3. 3 x HDMI ports capable of up to 1080p/24, as well as 2 x Component inputs capable up to 1080p/60. Connecting via HDMI allows "Vivid", "Standard" and "Cinema" Picture modes, while Components discards "Vivid". This is a step up against the Bravia X of old, where the Components are restricted to 1080i only.

4. In essense, the KLV-40Z450A is a stripped-down version of the KDL-40X4500 which is yet to appear on store shelves in the US, and a close cousin to the X1 Japanese series with the addition of Motionflow 200Hz. What all this mean is that, this set is SPECIFICALLY MADE for the South East Asia region, with the hindsight to add the latest Motionflow 200Hz feature only available on the latest XBR7 model (US), or the XR1 model in Japan. Even the XR1 model in Japan still only incorporates Motionflow 120Hz, and not the 200Hz step up.

What is Motionflow, you ask? Motionflow technology basically fills in the gap between refresh rates of the material you are watching with additional frames, making the image looks contiguous, continuous and smooth. We have the first step towards more lifelike film quality video with the advent of 1080p/24, and further enhanced by the 100Hz/120Hz refresh rates, and now Sony doubles that. Why the difference of 100/120Hz is due to how HDTV transmissive material being broadcasted, nomenclatured as 50/60Hz of the respective resolution (720p/1080p 50/60Hz). Sony effectively quadruples this, making the action onscreen looks silky smooth. This however is an acquired taste, just like how Malaysian like durians and the Westerners abhors them. Personally, I love Motionflow, and setting it up to the highest setting sets up a lifelike, "Holy shit, it looks like it's been shot by a camcorder" kinda look, that lends itself to like seeing it live before your eyes.

This effect also spills its benefits to any other source materials other than Blu-ray. I have an Onkyo DV-HD805 HD-DVD player equipped with Silicon Optics ReonVX upscaling video processor, which does 1080p/24, and together with Motionflow 200Hz, it absolutely fools the eyes into thinking that you're watching upconverted DVDs(pristine reference materials only) as a High Definition source. I've also an Apple TV connected via HDMI, set to upconvert any movies streamed to it to 1080p. Coupled with Motionflow 200Hz, even ripped DVDs (into MP4 formats) benefits from the film-lifelike PQ. And this is from movie DVDs ripped using standard presets on a Mac to the Apple TV, no magic fairy dust or absurdly high video bitrate settings. The movie may still look below-HD standards, but Motionflow 200Hz lends itself a "fluidity" quality that is missing before this, when it is obviously viewed as "video", and not "film".

For further simplified example of Motionflow 200Hz, click the link on my sig below.

5. As I've said before, this model is missing the Bravia widgets and other internet-related features on the American-based X4500 series, which is to me, is not a huge loss at all, since using those features requires dragging Ethernet cable to the unit, and I'm not too keen on that idea. I'm keeping my HDTVs as a source to view my movies and media, anything else beyond that is just icing on the cake. I still get to eat the cake.

6. For best results, and if you dont have access to ISF calirators/calibrating devices, these settings from TweakTV.com works wonders. Blu-rays like Kung Fu Panda just LEAPS OFF THE SCREEN with these settings, and if you want to tweak it further, without going for calibrators, use the Digital Video Essentials you can get from Amazon. I've set both tweaks on the "Standard" and "Cinema" Picture modes respectively, and IMO, still prefer the settings from TweakTV.com. This is of course, heavily dependant on your room environment and lighting configurations. I view my movies in my room, totally dark.

Other ports on this model includes Digital Media Port which can be used with Sony's own NWZ-A82X series Video Walkmans, in which a special cable is needed to do so. My next trip to Osaka should bag me this cable.

I'm also planning to get proper ISF calibration done on this unit, it is a waste not to do this right, and have the colors, brightness, contrast and sharpness run awry. With the two calibration options I've used, it is as close as how it is intended, but not quite, and I'm already extremely pleased with the results. Cant wait to professionally calibrate it!

In summary, previous benefits of film-like looks was secluded only to the HD materials like Blu-ray and HD-DVDs, with post-processing done by the players themselves, and the TVs displaying the end result. With Motionflow 200Hz, this benefit is further extended to other materials as well. Upconversions to 1080p is again up to the players, but while Blu-rays and HD-DVDs have the 24p mode to allow that silky-smooth film-like look, other non-HD materials now can enjoy the same benefits with Sony's Motionflow 200Hz.

End result? I've just hosted a Lost Season 5 TV Show night event at my place for our usual TV Show group of friends, and they were astonished at how film/lifelike the episodes are, and these episodes are just the normal Standard Definition version purchased from Apple's iTunes! Mission accomplished!

<Breaking NEWS!> Steve talks about his health

The link:- http://gizmodo.com/5123345/steve-jobs-talks-about-his-health

QUOTE

Steve Jobs Skips MacWorld Because of His Health

By Jesus Diaz, 8:47 AM on Mon Jan 5 2009

Answering recent coverage about his health, Steve Jobs has published the following letter addressed to the Apple community.

Dear Apple Community,

For the first time in a decade, I'm getting to spend the holiday season with my family, rather than intensely preparing for a Macworld keynote.

Unfortunately, my decision to have Phil deliver the Macworld keynote set off another flurry of rumors about my health, with some even publishing stories of me on my deathbed.

I've decided to share something very personal with the Apple community so that we can all relax and enjoy the show tomorrow.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause — a hormone imbalance that has been "robbing" me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment. But, just like I didn't lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple's CEO during my recovery.

I have given more than my all to Apple for the past 11 years now. I will be the first one to step up and tell our Board of Directors if I can no longer continue to fulfill my duties as Apple's CEO. I hope the Apple community will support me in my recovery and know that I will always put what is best for
Apple first.

So now I've said more than I wanted to say, and all that I am going to say, about this.

Steve

Analysis coming in a few.

I pray for his continued recovery, and return to good health. Stay strong Steve, and come back to us fit as a fiddle to continue your awesome Apple vision and leadership.

Time to move up.

Phase 1 - To configure RAID 5 on the 4 x 1TB WD Caviar Green HDDs, to prep them to receive the related medias.(movies, TV Shows, music, photos, essential/sensitive datas). The ShareSpace will be formatted to RAID 5, and still in the process at this moment, and only projected to finish the RAID process in 17 hours. Once that is done, the projected space available will be around 2.68GB, with both the protection of striping and mirroring.

Phase 2 - To relocate all the movies(DVDs or home vacation), music, photos, and TV Shows to the ShareSpace.

Phase 3 - Linking them to iTunes is also required so that they appear right on iTunes, with correct links pointing to the WD ShareSpace, with tagged album art/movie poster and song/movie/TV Show infoappearing correctly, will take another sizable chunk of time.

Phase 4 - It would also be important to test to see if all these transferred media, stream right to all three Apple TVs around the house.

Phase 5 - Once all that is in place, hopefully the Time Machine backup residing on the 2TB MyBook will not take that long to complete.

At the moment, is on Phase 1.Time to dig in the heels, get to work, and *pray* nothing goes wrong, else I'd be losing a lifetime worth of work/data.

The hopeful end result would be automated backup system running in tandem with the video-on-demand media serving capabilities between the Apple TVs and their storage containers(ShareSpace) working smoothly. The target objective is to have a pseudo-VOD-like system not unlike the hotel pay-per-view system, with vast array of selection of entertainment medium at the fingertips of the end user(or at the tip of their Apple Remote ). I'm not holding out much on the wired/wireless capabilities of using the WD ShareSpace as a scratch disk for video editing, but if that turns out to be somewhat manageable, then that would be a bonus. In the end, I hope I dont need to look into larger storage solution until much, much later. Thus, is the curse of an Apple TV user with library size spiralling out of control.

New MBA 1.86GHz + 9400M GS + 128GB SSD

Greetings!

After a hard day's toil yesterday, finally secured myself the high-end MBA from MacStudio. Did the Time Machine backup restoration to the little bugger, and up and running in less than 45 minutes.

[center][/center]

Impressions:-

1. The most worrying aspect is the horizontal lines problem I've read from the Macrumors forum. Because of the high clarity of the screen, screen flaws like these are further agravated and enhanced further. Upon my own personal inspection yesterday, it is either that the problem was greatly exaggerated, or fixed on later produced Airs. Mine is in Week 45, which sort of points towards the latter presumption, the guys at Macrumors are complaining about their Week 43/44 Airs.

2. Still no 4-finger swipe, unlike the ones available for the MB/MBP. This issue is considered moot, to me at least, since a software update to address this is already en route.**UPDATE**:Another update, another missing feature regained. Four finger Swipe is now available! Swipe 4 fingers up and down to Expose, swipe 4 fingers left and right to switch between applications.

3. Loads up SUPER fast! I know I've slagged the SSD before in favour of the HDD, but Apple must have did something to address the very very slight advantage SSD had over HDD on the first Air iteration. From the folks at Macrumors again, the connection type may have something to do with it, in combination of the type of SSD being used as well. They are either of the faster variety or in the case of the SSD, second generation.

4. I'm getting slightly better battery life than the first Air I had, so that is always a plus.

5. A minor inconvenience is losing the bundled DVI+VGA cables in the first Air, because the new Air uses DisplayPort. Worse still is the fact that this is not bundled together, and having to fork out cash to get this connected to a larger screen is a point to get miffed about to certain quarters. Not a big issue to me, as I never had to connect the old Air to my HDTV , and never find need to do it again now either.

6. Biggest improvement , besides the load up speed, is playback of Youtube videos and high-definition clips. Looking at the Activity Monitor, CPU usage hovers around 20% for Youtube clips, and between 35% to 45% for 720p Apple trailers. Tried the 1080p clips, and I could have sworn during the first run, it ran fine, but on subsequent playbacks, could notice frame drops once in a while.**UPDATE**:Just did a few Software Update, and tried running the same Star Trek 1080p trailer, this time....sublime! No dropped frames, no hiccups, ran like a well-oiled engine. This MBA is certified 1080p capable, provided it is in that Apple H264 codec lah.

7. What was impossible on the previous Air, is possible now. What is that? Gaming! Tried Need for Speed Carbon, and the bloody game run on 1024x768 on Medium! This is impossible on the previous Air, and I'm pretty impressed. I'm spoiled for 1920x1200 on Ultra High setting on my Alienware, but the fact that a game runs that well on acceptable framerates/resolution/setting is nothing short of an achievement for Apple. Good show!

I'm not sure pictures will be needed as the new MBA is virtually identical to the old MBA, dimension and design-wise. I could do a simple unboxing on Youtube later if anyone wants.

All possible software-rectifiable solutions in place, I'm extremely pleased with the results. 1080p clips runs fine, and 4 finger swipes are in place. No signs of horizontal line flaws on my unit, let's keep it that way. *touchwood*
