Well lately , ASTRO is being well ASTRO. As we do know , everyday it rains here in Kuala Lumpur and ASTRO's superior technology makes it impossible to get reception as we all do know that ASTRO is broadcasting in ~~pirated VCD quality~~ H.264 1080p @ 50Mbps (Blu-Ray quality) which pisses me off. Anyhow , I found a VPN Service which allows us to watch US shows and even UK shows (kaki bola should take note) such as the one in hulu , and even BBC iPlayer.

Oh before you get happy , let me tell you something. The service is somewhat shady as in it hijacks your default web browser homepage and redirects to their site. I wouldn't recommend you to use this VPN to access any sites such as banking , lowyat , gmail I am solely using it on a separate browser (suppose if you use firefox , use Internet Explorer or Chrome for this) . As for streaming speed , its somewhat good. I mean if I leave 15-30 minutes for it to buffer , I could watch the whole show , oh bear in mind that there are ad-break. So the show that you're going to watch is not ad-free but at least its better then cursing and swearing.

I am watching V on hulu (buffering takes a while , so I just leave it for like 15-30mins like how youtube buffering and watch it later - its faster then torrenting , that I can say)

But one thing I want to say , this is the reason why I hate sharing things with Malaysians. Just don't abuse the service otherwise because of one person , bam the entire ip range for malaysia gets banned

P.S - If you trust those chinese torrent client i.e Xunlei , then for you this is not a problem. I've scanned with antivirus , firewall its clean as there is no malware , however keep in mind if you connect using this service. All data will go through their servers instead of TM. I mean they could take the data and tamper it , so just use solely for watching TV

Do not use any adblocking software when watching hulu , veoh or other thing. if you do that , it does not load , even if it loads its either too slow or it just simply gives you an error. You gotta unlock it , thats how hulu generates money anyway. You can get to watch the show legally

How To : Enable Native NTFS Write support

Hey guys

Wrote a tutorial today on how to enable native NTFS write support , so that you can write to your ntfs partition (it allows you to remove files in your NTFS partition in OSX , move files , etc - you name it. I copied and pasted here from my own blog. If you want to check out the pictures and how its done properly. Feel free to check it out

Starting from OSX 10.6 , it seems that Apple is included read/write support for NTFS partitions. However its disabled by default (I'm not sure why they have disabled it but knowing Apple they may have silly or a solid reason to do. Remember , MMS for iPhone 2G - The hardware is capable of doing so , however they decided to drop support for MMS). In this guide , i would teach you on how to enable NTFS read/write support for Snow leopard. Its way better then using NTFS-3G or using other third party alternative as the system supports natively. Whats the catch you ask ? - Its simple , nobody knows what are the adverse effects. So far - I've tried with read/write support on my NTFS partitions and OSX seems to be stable and there aren't any corruption or what-so-ever with the partition

Shall we get started. Firstly , you'll have to fire up Terminal (You can run Terminal by clicking on Spotlight and simply type Terminal or alternatively look in Utilities folder , its located in Applications). Once you've it , you'll see a command prompt. For your information , if you're a Mac user (Hack users should be familiar with Terminal) , its the core of your system .You're able to mess the system. So don't blame me , I've warned you. First thing is first. This is done manually as in you are able to set which you want to give read/write access. There isn't a system-wide on/off switch for all NTFS partition.

First thing is to take note of is your UUID ID. UUID is unique , it identifies your hard disk regarldess of its name , what kind of partition , how many times you've formatted it. Even if you make it external or internal. It would be the same. To do this type

diskutil info /Volumes/<name of the disk>

Hint : You can use auto-complete to complete the hard disk's name for you. Just type up to /Volumes/ and then type first few letters of your NTFS Partition that you would like to get its UUID , and hit tab twice. Voila , Terminal completes for you. Its handy !

For instance , i've a partition which I call it as Games. So therefore its

diskutil info /Volumes/Games/

You'll see a bunch of information. Do take note of your UUID. If you don't see your UUID , don't worry. There is an alternative method. Now copy that

Now type

sudo /etc/fstab

Reminder : Make sure you've removed NTFS-3G and/or other similar tools for your Snow Leopard first. If you don't have it installed , dont worry !

NOTE : If this is the first time that you're using Terminal , OSX would ask you to create a root password. Just create a password , I would personally recommend you for it to match your Administrators password or your current password that you're using. However its still up to you , if you plan to have a different root password.

Copy and paste this line (either one of them)

If you've UUID , then use this

UUID=your uuid none ntfs rw

Mine becomes "UUID=243A736A-66FD-46BC-AE67-88AC48643CB2 none ntfs rw"

If you don't have your UUID. You may use this instead

LABEL=volume_name none ntfs rw

So in my case its "LABEL=Games none ntfs rw" (without the quotes that is). Keep in mind that its case-sensetive. Games ? GaMeS

Paste this to the first line of your fstab or write it manually. Its your call. Do make sure that it looks something like this.

Hit control + K to exit and type y (or yes) to save. Voila , thats it you're done. Simply reboot and if you've done it right. You're able to copy files to your NTFS partition , rename files , remove files - just like you would do in Windows. It makes sense if you want to move files from OSX to your windows partition and move it back. This is great if you have an external USB hard disk and you want to have read/write access for it. I've seen a lot of Mac users in Malaysia , who still work in windows environment and they have trouble moving files across different platform as FAT32 has its own limitation and Windows wouldn't read HFS+ partition !

Details of the complaint : Lets see let me put a basic timeline , so that its easier for you guys to see

16th Aug 09 - I'm his returning customer (bought stickers from him back in 06 - even back then there was a dispute against him but then he quickly replied and gave additional free stickers due to his fault (postage) (For details refer this thread :- http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/294246 ) . This time I pm'ed him for Windows Vista stickers and Intel pentium sticker to stick on to my casing

19th Aug 09 - He pmed me back and he said that he'll book them. Paid him RM 10 (yes I know its such a small amount , its not the amount that concerns me - its the credibility of him). He then PMed me his business contact number. Fair enough. Since I contacted him around 6-8PM , it would be the following day for me to get his PM regarding POS Laju shipping number (fair enough)

20th Aug 09 - No PMs or what-so-ever from him. Decided to give a call to his office ~2PM (after Muslim friday prayers) , guess his wife picked up and he said that he (RichBoyz) is asleep. I decided to give a call later around 4PM , this time nobody picked up.

21st Aug 09 - gave him another call , again it went unanswered. Since it was the first day of puasa - I decided to let it go as I truly understand about it

23rd Aug 09 - Called again during lunch hour but this time it seems that my calls are being rejected. So I decided to use Google to find more details about him , since he is here for a long time , plus he has a registered company.

Dear All

Recently , as we all know - Maxis has revised their iValue plans , which I find is pretty good (not to mention free MMS and SMSes that they give). So I gave them a call recently to ask if old iPhone 3G users are entitled for this new plan - the answer is simply No. We are not entitled for the new plan freebies as its only valid for new customers

What I am doing is here to well create awareness and fight for our rights. After all , we are the first batch who bought iPhone 3G with Maxis. Therefore , I would like to encourage those who are with iPhone 3G with iValue plans (pre-iPhone 3GS) to send an e-mail to custcare@maxis.com.my and not to mention to MCMC and "Tribunal pengguna" as well

If you're with me in this , then post it up here - together we will send an e-mail and call Maxis to inform them about this. Let's fight for our rights !. For your information , this is not the first time its me vs Maxis. I've had enough with their Maxis Broadband and managed to avoid paying RM 200 "early termination fee".

Dear All,

I've been noticing lately that if someone posts some silly questions or which could be found in FAQ/pinned topics. There would be a group of users that would simply post "thread reported". Now there is nothing wrong of reporting a thread if you believe that its wrong. I just don't want these one-liners post to be here

Suppose if you want to report a thread , just hit the report button and simply post the correct link on where Thread Starter should ask his/her question. This is because not everyone is familiar with iPhones section general conduct and how things are done here.

I would appreciate if you (the elites) would direct newcomers or those who've failed to check the pinned thread by simply pointing out the right location where they should post instead of just saying "thread reported". This would help davidgary73 and the rest of the moderators of this section to focus on other things such as keeping it tidy and updating pinned thread with useful information

P.S - I've discussed with david before coming up with david on this matter and he has agreed to this after a lengthy discussion with him

Streaming Music Wirelessly From iPhone to your PC

This is a copy and paste from my blog entry. Its a simple tutorial (for PC - sorry it doesn't work with Mac) that allows you to stream music via Bluetooth. Its neat if you want to listen to your songs but you don't want to run iTunes or you don't have it installed

Well it works great if you have a pair of good headphones but what if you want to stream it to your PC wirelessly which is connected to a stereo -- then you might want to consider this solution.

My main aim is to take advantage of A2DP and make use it of it by using a PC as a “headphone” and streaming music to it. It would be easier to listen to and common , if you’re going to throw a party and if you want users to stream their own collection of music it would be easier -- wouldn’t it. As opposing to connecting the iPhone to your PC/Mac , using third party tools to play it. So I thought since PCs do support Bluetooth and its possible to configure PC’s Bluetooth stack as generally Bluetooth hardware supports it as long the stack does it. So I searched high and low for a stack (software) which allows me to turn my PC into a “bluetooth headphones” , so that iPhone sees it as headphones instead of a PC , thus allowing me to stream music wirelessly . Voila , I’ve found one which supports A2DP “Server Profile” which allows mobile phones that supports A2DP to stream music wirelessly to the PC. Unfortunately it works with Windows only and the software isn’t free. Anyhow , I’ve written a little tutorial on how to get it working all together.

Shall we get to business ? Okay , this what you’ll need :-

* Windows XP/Vista or Windows 7 (Sorry it doesn’t work on MacOS X -- Its because Apple doesn’t allow 3rd party folks to tamper with Apple’s Bluetooth support , making it impossible for folks to write a driver for it)
* Bluetooth Adapter (Duh Obviously) (Preferably 2.0+EDR or 2.1+EDR)
* Bluesoleil Bluetooth Stack Software (€ 19.95) (You may download Free version from here which allows you to transfer up to 2MB of data)

Just on a side note : This tutorial does work with other phones which supports A2DP profile as well. Its just that I’ve made it specially for the iPhone !

1. Install Bluesoleli (Before that make sure you’ve removed other Bluetooth software so that it doesn’t conflict with BlueSoleil) and then reboot your PC

2. After that , right click the Bluetooth option and then select Classic View. Hit Control + P or go to Bluetooth --> Preferences . You should see a window which is something like this :-

Click on the picture to enlarge it so that you can get a clearer picture - | Just make sure you change your Device Type from Computer/Laptop to Headset

3. Change your Device Type to Headset and then hit OK

4. Next up click on the sun (aka the centre) and then right click on the headphones icon and click Properties and uncheck Use Secure Connection

Make sure that you've unchecked Secure Connection. Secure Connection A2DP and iPhone doesn't go together and I don't know why

5. Next up , fire up your iPhone and turn on Bluetooth (Its located in Settings --> General --> Bluetooth ) and wait for a while till your iPhone sees your PC. Select your PC (by taping on its name). It would ask for a passcode. Simply enter 0000 or any passcode that you want it to use. After a while your PC will prompt you to enter the same passcode in order to pair with the device. Enter 0000 again (or any other passcode which you’ve selected earlier). If its paired you should see your iPhone in Bluetooth tool. Right click on it and select Get Services and Get Name. It would then update it with your iPhone’s name (i.e Mark’s iPhone)

Just make sure that its connected and take note of the Bluetooth icon - it should be blue in colour instead of grey

6. After a while , you’ll get this prompt. Hit Yes and put a checkmark on ‘Always do this…’

When IVT Bluetooth software prompts you for authorisation , simply hit yes to allow iPhone to stream music wirelessly to your PC

7. Fire up iPod/Music application in your iPhone and you should have something like this ! Hit play and voila enjoy.

Voila - It sees my PC as a bluetoth headset and I am able to play music wirelessly !

The reason why it doesn't work with MacOS X is because Apple doesn't allow developers to write their own Bluetooth stack for OSX !. So its kinda impossible to make such thing to work with OSX !

Oh yeah , I just love when people believe. Firstly , if you read the story how Gol Airlines 737 crashed (it collided with a jet) , the picture showed like if the tail part was gone , where as it should be the left wing. This causes dramatic damage to the structure and therefore causing the aircraft to crash (to the unbalanced force , the aircraft twists right due to unable to sustain lift in the left hand side)

Hey guys

It seems that TMNut's DNS Server is having some issues (i guess the admins should be shot dead). For now use OpenDNS , they do provide better services then TMNut's own DNS Server. You may notice improvement in certain areas. Plus they do indeed offer couple of other different IPs

How to set-it up for

Change your Energy Saver Icon !

Okay guys, I am going to post this as I find that the old icon is a bit not eco-friendly. So someone created a script which changes your Energy Saving icon to the new icon !

This is how it looks like (From old to new) - The new icon could be found in the new macbook/macbook pro. for the rest of us who are using the older generation Macs and would like the icon , you could finally have it
