Bank robbery in Israel - four people dead

Four people have been killed and hostages taken during a bank robbery in Israel, according to police.

The victims reportedly died during a shootout at a branch of Bank Hapoalim in the southern Israeli city of Be'er Sheva after the robbers entered at around 11am local time.

A further shot was heard from the bank at around 2.15pm, according to local reports.

One of the robbers was thought to have barricaded himself inside the building with a female hostage, before shooting himself.

The hostage crisis reportedly ended after one robber shot himself and a second was wounded and taken to hospital.

Three men and a woman are reportedly among the dead, with a further three injured, including one seriously.

A woman outside the bank as the drama unfolded said: "I heard gunshots, went out and saw many ambulances arriving and numerous people assembling.

"I also understood that children were not being let out of school. Right now there are a lot of people here and about nine ambulances.

"I can see police inside the bank but I do not know what is going on inside. We were told to stay where we are."

Sky News Middle East Correspondent Sam Kiley said: "The robbery has ended with the deaths of four innocent people and one of the robbers who shot himself.

"One of the things the robbers are thought to have underestimated is how many Israelis are armed themselves."

Armed security forces and police were quickly on the scene, working to establish how many people were inside the bank and whether any hostage takers were still alive.

According to Israeli TV station Channel 2, the robbers were from the Bedouin village of Rahat, to the north of Be'er Sheva.

(CNN) -- A rash of tornadoes wreaked havoc in Oklahoma and the Midwest on Sunday and Monday, destroying homes and tossing trees around like toothpicks.

But the destructive weather isn't over. Baseball-sized hail, wind gusts and tornadoes could pummel parts of the central Plains and Midwest through Monday.

Early Monday morning, a tornado touched down in Golden City, Missouri, and tore through two counties, Barton County Emergency Management Director Tom Ryan said. The number of injuries and extent of damage were not immediately clear.

Hours earlier, one man was killed in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, where a twister reduced trailer park homes to piles of debris. Dozens of deputies scoured the rubble overnight, Sheriff Mike Booth said. Two people reported missing from trailer park were found late Sunday night.

As many as 28 tornadoes were reported in Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois and Iowa, according to the National Weather Service, with Oklahoma and Kansas the hardest hit. Some of those reports might have been of the same tornado.

A tornado that touched down near Wellston, Oklahoma, appeared to be a half-mile wide, according to CNN affiliate KFOR.

"It's tearing up everything," the affiliate's helicopter pilot said. "Just ripping everything up in its sight."

Twisters were also reported near Dale and Prague, Oklahoma. One apparently touched down in Shawnee, flipping over tractor-trailers on Interstate 40.

Eleven patients were being treated at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma, including one in critical condition, spokeswoman Carla Tollett said.

More tornadoes were spotted in Iowa, near Earlham, Huxley and east of Dallas Center, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency also confirmed a twister in the northwestern Illinois county of Carroll.

The Sooner State could see more strong storms late Monday afternoon, and flooding could become a problem Monday night.

Kansas

Showers and thunderstorms threaten the state through Monday. Heavy rainfall in some parts may lead to flood watches and warnings.

Iowa

Showers and storms are expected to develop on Monday afternoon, with large hail possible. Though the threat of tornadoes threat looks low, it can't be ruled out.

Missouri

Parts of Missouri could be flooded by heavy rainfall. Afternoon storms could produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and possible tornadoes in areas such as St. Louis.

Moore, Oklahoma -- Rescue workers raced against time and darkness Monday night looking for survivors after a powerful tornado blasted an area outside of Oklahoma City, leveling homes and leaving at least 51 people dead.

At least 20 of the dead were children, including at least seven from Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, which lay directly in the path of the monster storm's wall of wind.

Seventy-five students and staff members had been huddled at the school when the tornado hit, CNN affiliate KFOR reported.

As nightfall descended, determined searchers in hard hats dug in the debris for those possibly trapped, but authorities described the work as a recovery, not rescue, effort. Search lights illuminated their efforts.

A father of a third-grader still missing sat quietly on a stool. Tears fell from his face as he waited for news.

"I'm speechless. How did this happen? Why did this happen?" asked Norma Bautista, whose son, a student, survived.

"How do we explain this to the kids? How are they going to wake up tomorrow and everything's missing -- the school, these houses, their friends," she said. "In an instant, everything's gone."

After the ear-shattering howl of the killer storm subsided, survivors along the miles of destruction emerged from shelters to see an apocalyptic vision -- the remnants of cars twisted and piled on each other to make what had been a parking lot look like a junk yard.

Block after block of homes were gone. Bright orange flames flew from a structure that was blazing even as rain continued to fall.

"Our worst fears are becoming realized this afternoon," said Bill Bunting, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center.

"We certainly hope everyone heeded the warnings, but it's a populated area and we just fear that not everyone may have gotten the word," he said.

Bodies of those killed in the storm were being sent to Oklahoma's office of the chief medical examiner, said the office's Amy Elliott. At least 145 people were reported injured at three area hospitals.

Recently the three remaining members of Stone Temple Pilots raised a few eyebrows when it was revealed they would be performing at the annual MusiCares MAP Fund benefit. Given that they split with frontman Scott Weiland earlier in the year, there were plenty of questions about who would sing for the band, but those questions were answered Saturday night (May 18) in Irvine, Calif. as Linkin Park‘s Chester Bennington joined the band onstage at the 2013 KROQ Weenie Roast. The group also took the opportunity to debut a new track called ‘Out of Time.’

Bennington, who also happens to be the MAP Fund honoree for this year’s event, joined the three STP members for a surprise set in the midst of the radio festival, rocking out a number of familiar favorites before closing the set with ‘Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart.’ In addition to the stage performance, Bennington has been in the studio with the band working on the ‘Out of Time’ track. A brief teaser clip of Bennington’s studio session can be seen above, while the song in full can be heard below.

Guitarist Dean DeLeo told the Los Angeles-based radio station, “Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time. We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”

As for Bennington, he admits this was the fulfillment of a longtime dream. He explained, “I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me. When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.”

Transformers/My Little Pony Crossover Comic Cover Revealed

The comics news website Comic Book Resources posted the variant cover for the My Little Pony Micro Series comic book volume #5 on Friday. The cover designed by artist Tony Fleecs is a crossover between Hasbro's Transformers and My Little Pony franchises.

On the cover, My Little Pony character Pinkie Pie cosplays as Autobot leader Optimus Prime while dancing on the hand of the Transformer himself. IDW Publishing will exclusively release the comic with Fleecs's cover at next month's Botcon event. The comic's standard version written by Ted Anderson with interior art by Ben Bates will ship on June 26.

San Diego's Botcon event will be held at the Town and Country Resort from June 27 to 30.

‘Riddick’ Trailer: Back to ‘Pitch Black’ Basics

"You're not afraid of the dark, are ya?"

If that line uttered by Richard B. Riddick (Vin Diesel) in the new "Riddick" trailer sounds familiar, that's because, well, it is -- he said the same thing to the (mostly doomed) members of the supporting cast of his feature film debut, "Pitch Black" (2000).

And, somewhat thankfully, a lot of the "Riddick" trailer will remind you of "Pitch Black." Once again, our anti-hero -- a forever-hunted ex-con who can see in the dark thanks to a "shine job" he received during his time in the "slam" -- is on some desolate desert-like planet. A group of "bounty hunters" (why does he call them that and not "mercs"?) shows up, and Riddick proceeds to pick them off one by one. Then night falls and, well, if you've seen "Pitch Black," you know what that means -- the real monsters come out, forcing Riddick and his would-be hunters to join forces in an epic battle for survival.

So yeah, it looks like "Pitch Black" (though somehow also somewhat cheaper-looking with lots of so-so CG-rendered beasties). And that's not necessarily a bad thing because "Pitch Black" was actually a pretty decent sci-fi thriller that offered an amusing spin on the "Aliens" formula and gave Diesel a role that fit him like a glove (even more so than Dominic Toretto, the growling anti-hero he plays in the much more successful "Fast & Furious" franchise).

It was when "The Chronicles of Riddick" (2004) came out that it all started to go wrong. "Pitch Black" was a modest chamber thriller; "Chronicles" was a completely overblown gonzo ego trip on the parts of Diesel and writer-director David Twohy as it introduced a muddled and ridiculously sprawling mythology filled with way too many characters, planets, factions, props, everything. There was also a "Riddick" animated short and a couple of video games, and no one really cared. They tried to turn the whole thing into "Star Wars" and it just didn't work.

It remains to be seen whether there's still any audience for this character and his situation after nine years, though Diesel and Twohy are smart in trimming the fat and getting back to their roots with a lean n' mean scenario. Who knows? We might finally end up loving Richard B. Riddick as much as his creators seemingly so desperately want us to.

US diplomat ordered to leave Russia in spy case

MOSCOW: A U.S. diplomat was ordered Tuesday to leave the country after the Kremlin’s security services said he tried to recruit a Russian agent, and they displayed tradecraft tools that seemed straight from a cheap spy thriller: wigs, packets of cash, a knife, map and compass, and a letter promising millions for “long-term cooperation.”

The FSB, the successor agency to the Soviet-era KGB, identified the diplomat as Ryan Fogle, a third secretary at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, detaining him briefly overnight.

It alleged that Fogle was a CIA officer trying to recruit a Russian counterterrorism officer who specializes in the volatile Caucasus region in southern Russia, where the two Boston Marathon bombing suspects had their ethnic roots.

Fogle was handed over to U.S. Embassy officials, declared persona non grata and ordered to leave Russia immediately. He has diplomatic immunity, which protects him from arrest.

The State Department would only confirm that Fogle worked as an embassy employee, but wouldn’t give any details about his employment record or responsibilities in Russia. Some officials also referred inquiries to the CIA, which declined comment.

Dracula is an upcoming British-American limited series television drama that is expected to air on Sky Living and NBC produced by London based shingle Carnival Films. The show was created by Cole Haddon, and is a reimagining of the classic Dracula novel by Bram Stoker. Dan Knauf, creator of the HBO series Carnivàle, will serve as showrunner/head writer, working with Haddon.

The network announced the series in January 2012 with a straight-to-series commitment,and the series was later green-lit for 10 episodes in July 2012. Production of the series start in February/March 2013 in Budapest, with the series airing in the fall.

Haddon will direct the pilot episode. Other episodes will be directed by Andy Goddard (Downton Abbey, Law & Order: UK) and Steve Shill (Dexter, Law & Order: Criminal Intent).

Sony had organized a couple of public events, the first was in Singapore at Brotzeit Restaurant @ 313 Somerset and the other in Malaysia in the Sony Center @ The Curve, Damansara. They invited gamers to come and try out Soul Sacrifice with their friends. Not only were they treated to some very epic battles with gruesome monsters, some went home with really nice prizes too, one lucky winner even got himself a brand new PS Vita.

Keeping things interesting, the Sony guys got creative by adding in an additional challenge to all those who attended. Once everyone was familiar with the game, a small handout with a list of challenges was passed around. The first player to complete all the challenges, earning 4 unique sacrificial symbols, wins a very special take away bag with limited edition goodies. This got everyone pumped to get their hands on it, but it proved to be quite a challenge. Players had to team up and defeat a list of monsters and make use of the game's unique multiplayer features, such as becoming a sacrifice to support your team mates or combining powers with another player to unleash devastating attacks.

At the end of the day, while only a few would walk away with prizes, everyone still felt like a winner. Working as team and reaching that victory screen was a satisfying prize in itself. Soul Sacrifice may not have claimed any "souls" from these events, but it certaintly earned itself a pretty solid following in both Malaysia and Singapore.
