iPod - "Please wait. Very Low Battery" & Halted..

Need help on my iPod Video, 5.5 80GB. I have done nothing and out of normal usage and charging one day, it just show the faint Apple logo and then and exclamation mark on battery sign. When plug into USB Charger cable, it says "Please Wait. Very Low Battery". Have tried instruction from net to Press both Menu & Centre to reboot a few times, then Press both Centre and Play button to go into Disk mode, detected and restore. All done by letting the iPod charged for more than 1 day. Still no work !!!

Please advise what seems to be the problem and is it the battery or harddrive that needs to be replaced. Also, is there any shop around(other than Apple) that can help to replace the parts. It past warranty and you know it is pointless to go back to Apple. Please please, want to hear from anyone who can help !!!

Regards
Kenn
