Upgrade to Streamyx Combo or wait for HSBB?

I wonder if there's still a point to upgrade to 4Mb/s Streamyx Combo or wait for the HSBB. My main concern is the pricing, if I were to register myself for 4Mb/s package for RM160, I will be under contract for the whole year from now. HSBB will be launched in the next few months starting from the four areas. Pricing for HSBB is unknown for the time being but reasonably (using the term loosely) it should replace the current packages that TMnet offers with the pricing either maintained or slightly adjusted. If the event there's a 5Mb/s-10Mb/s packages which cost lower than RM160, I will be contractually bound to pay MORE FOR LESS SPEED. I'm not too confident that TMnet will look after its customer's interest more than it's income.

On the other hand, there may be delays after delays (knowing how things are done around here). There's no guarantee the HSBB roll out plan is on track for other areas or even the initial four areas. Hence I need to know whether this is a gamble I should take.

How to close off the hole?

I don't plan to use the side panel fan on my CM690 and want to remove it. When i remove all the four screws, the fan and the mesh grill will fall out and there will be a round hole at the side. Is there anyway I can close off the hole? The problem is there's nothing to hold the mesh grill once i remove the fan as the screw has nothing it can lock-on to.

EDIT:

BTW guys, I'm trying to look for a 3-Pin Fan Splitter for Casing Fan, 1 Female Point divided into 2 Male Point .
All-In-One Laser Printer

Hi all, need some recommendation on an AIO laser printer which can print, scan, and photostat for home use. Ditching my AIO inkjet printer due to printhead problems and the cartridges are getting more expensive to use. Looking for laser printers instead as i heard it's more economical and reliable for long term usage. Colour is optional but would prefer one which can print double-sided. No brand loyalty as long as it has affordable toners, reliable and easy maintenance.

Thanks.

Fanless (Passive Cooling) HSF CPU Cooler

Hi all, was wondering whether it is possible to get a fanless hsf to cool a C2Q system running 24/7? If so, what brand/model of the hsf would you recommend? No specific budget here as long as it performs well despite it being fanless

What i'm looking for:-

1. Fanless. As long as the performance can match or better than the current stock intel hsf i want to replace;
2. Lightweight. I know the general rule is the bigger the better but i don't want to stress out the M/B with a 1000g hsf;
3. Easy installation and good fitting on the LGA775 M/B.

Current casing is CM690 with an intake at the front and exhaust at the back if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Curry Seafood Noodles

Can anyone recommend a good place for some curry seafood noodles in KL? Used to visit Yu Ai, the popular restaurant serving seafood noodles in Segambut but find it way too expensive to be worth the price. The way the price sky-rocketed is ridiculous. Find it very hard to justify RM15-RM17 for a bowl of noodle especially in that kind of environment (if you've been there, you know what i mean).

What GC for 1920x1080 Gaming?

Can anyone recommend a good GC that can handle gaming at 1920x1080 resolutions without problem? Budget-wise below RM1000.

Was thinking about 4850 and GX260. I think at lower resolutions, the price/performance ratio for 4850 would be more worth it but for higher resolutions GTX260 will starts to show its true colour.

Which LCD Monitor? 16:9 or 16:10?

Hi guys, i'm thinking about getting a LCD Monitor. Main usage will be for pc gaming, movies/animes and maybe pair it with a PS3 one day. At first i'm thinking about getting either Samsung 2253bw or T220 but it has some bad review (backlight bleeding, weird noises), now thinking about a true 16:9 ratio monitor but worried that it might cause some ratio distortion as 16:10 has always been the standard for LCD. Anyway, please recommend based on the following factors:

1. 22" or 24"? (thinking about 22")
2. 16:9 or 16:10? (need some help here)
3. Nice design (wholly black)
4. Which brand/model? (I'm open to any which fits the criteria)
5. Budget RM500-RM1000
6. Preferably matte and not glossy (glossy would be too reflective imho)

Thanks.

AP extended for another 10 years....at least!

I'm surprised nobody brought this up yet.

QUOTE

The government’s flip-flop policies continue with the recent announcement that it would not go ahead with the abolishment of APs by 2010, instead giving the notorious AP system an extended lifetime that will last the next 10 to 11 years at least.

“A decision has been made and we are not changing it. We are keeping the AP system to prepare present traders for a time when there were no more APs, so that they would be able to stand on their own without relying on APs anymore,” explained Minister of International Trade and Industry Muhyiddin Yassin.

He added that MITI would be hiring consultants to evaluate the performance of AP holders over the past 20 years, but from the way he said it, it seems that it is purely for the government’s knowledge on whether “the companies have achieved good results more than just selling and producing vehicles.” There is no mention of punishment for AP holders who become nothing more than middle-men, flogging them off for obscene amounts of cash.

But when the 10 to 11 year period ends, the minister mentioned anyone will be able to bring in any car they want. Of course, the value of his assurance is pretty much next to nothing in these flip flop times.

http://paultan.org/archives/2008/06/11/gov...shcow-lifespan/

In this difficult time when the government is asking us to tighten our belts and change our lifestyles, they are going back on their word to abolish APs and instead extend it for another 10 years at least to protect their cronies. So it looks like the AP Kings can still keep their lifestyles by selling a piece of paper for tens of thousands. With the fat lady gone, it seems this Muhyiddin fella isn't going to be any better.

The government is really milking us dry with high fuel prices, high car duties, and AP payments. Adding salt to injury, they have never walk their talk in improving public transportation or encourage the use of fuel efficient (hybrid) cars to protect our so called limited supply of fuel. I can't believe there are people out there who actually buy into the government's words that the recent fuel price increase is for the good of the country. Who is that stupid?

RAM for an old laptop

Hi, laptop has an inbuilt of 256MB RAM and only one free slot taken up by a "256MB 266Mhz DDR SODIMM" making up a total of 512 in RAM. It can only take up a maximum of 768MB of RAM and therefore i would need to change the 256MB to a 512MB RAM. My question is what can kind of RAM can it used and how do you check it?

Here's a CPU-Z capture if relevant.

Memory Tab (it shows 448MB only because the rest is allocated for graphics)

SPD (There is Slot #2 but it contain no info)

Why is there used space in a newly formatted HDD?

Hi. I have a 320GB HDD which i plan to used as an external drive for storage. I formatted it as NTFS and it showed 298GB of usable space. However when i right click and checked "Properties" under the general tab, it will showed that 73.7MB of space has been used.

There's nothing inside it except for an empty "System Volume Information" folder (any chance deletable?) I have even turn off "System Restore Points" So what on earth is occupying this 73.7MB of space and why it can't be found? Thanks

For the last few days, HTTP surfing will just slowdown or doesn't work at all. This happens every few hours and it starting to get really annoying. I will have to reset my modem and router to be able to surf normally again. When i start experiencing these timeouts, i cannot even open the router settings page at http://192.168.1.1/

I've read it once at this forum that this symptoms could be linked to TMnet throttling. However i'm afraid it could be my modem or router dying (a possibility?). Nevertheless i'm a bit skeptical about this since it will return to normal once i reboot. Please post if you're facing the same thing.

Modem: ZTE 831
Router: WRT54G
