The original poster of this solution is wilsoncvt; I'm merely refining the universal method.

Step 1
Download the attachment from wilsoncvt's post here

Step 2
Attach the vcard.vcf file and e-mail it to an account (which has already been pre-configured on your iPhone prior to this step). Synchronise that account via WiFi or the telecommunication network and retrieve the file as shown below.

Step 3
Tap on the vcard.vcf file...

Step 4
Tap on the "Add All 27 Contacts" and followed by either "Create New Contacts" or "Merge with Contacts" (I have personally opted for "Create New Contacts" instead)

Step 5

Enable “Japanese QWERTY keyboard” (Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> International Keyboards -> Japanese -> QWERTY)

Step 6
Open the desired application (for example Text) and tap the globe icon, in between "123" and the "space bar". Type “emojia”, “emojii” or “emojiu” to reveal different sets of emoji characters.
Hint: To display more characters, one can opt to perform a "trial and error" experiment; emoji (constant), followed by a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i and so on. For example emojih.

A row of emoji characters will subsequently appear.

Step 7
Using the magnifying feature, you may then proceed to delete the unwanted characters whilst retaining the desired ones. Hence this method is obviously messier (in a way) than the jailbroken method, but you get to save on all the unnecessary hassle.

Step 8
Voila! E N J O Y!

Looking at the growing number of questioned posed at the iPhone subforum in regards to obtaining an iPhone 3G (both locked and unlocked), I thought that the creation of this thread will help to explain the situation better and also answer some frequently asked questions.

Q: Alright, this subforum has gotten me all excited about the iPhone 3G! I will be heading to XYZ country soon/have an acquaintance from back soon et cetera, which countries are eligible to sell these officially unlocked iPhone 3G units?

A: To answer this question, there will be two parts to it; 1. unlocked directly from the box and 2 .initially locked but the respective carrier can perform an authorised unlocking subsequently
1. Czech Republic, Greece, Hong Kong, Italy, Luxembourg, Macau, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia (Orange), South Africa, Turkey (TurkCell)
2. Argentina, Austria (One), Australia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, France, Guatamela, Hungary, , India (Airtel), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal (Vodafone), Romania (Orange), Spain, Switzerland (Orange), Uruguay

Q: Why would I fork out so much for an officially unlocked iPhone 3G? I can easily purchase an American bound unit from AT & T for a fraction of the price. The prices are clearly a rip off and not mention a day-light-robbery attempt!

A: Here are a couple of reasons on why you should NOT purchase these units in favour of these SIM card adapters (for example a TurboSim):-
1. Frequent dropped calls during the initiation of conference call
2. Frequent disconnection from the network provider (which may require you to search for the desired network manually thereafter)
3. Unable to ultilise the GPRS/EDGE/3G network for internet connectivity purposes
4. Unable to make/receive calls (frequent experiences of Call Failure)
5. Certain SIM card adapters (or versions) will not necessarily work for all network providers.
6. The upgrading/restoring process is no longer straightforward (requires additional software) and may pose undesirable complications
7. The possibility of the SIM card adaptor melting inside your iPhone (I am NOT joking about this)
8. According to the dev team, early reports suggest that the 2.2 update disables the functionality of these devices; meaning you will not be able to upgrade to future firmwares.
8. You should NOT be a cheapskate to own an iPhone.

officially unlocked iPhone 3G units will have a display like this upon successful upgrade/restoration, instead of "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported."

Q: But wait a minute, can't I just rely on the fact that locked units require some sort of SIM card adapter (for example a TurboSim) to bypass the unlocking process?

A: There is a growing concern regarding an ongoing scam, where the SIM card adapter is actually "built-in" where these unscrupulous parties dismantle the iPhone units and subsequently soldering them on (as shown below). Checking both the part number or model is the only way to certain. Period.

hey guys/gals,

i will be organising a TT this upcoming sunday (09/11/2008). Venue will be as usual in starbucks and the location is KL Sentral. it was suppose to be in KLCC initially, however after much contemplation, KL Sentral will be more ideal as it is way less congested and packed as compared to KLCC and it is easily accessible by various lines and buses.

well apparently the admin staffs are obviously hardworking to pin point my thread out as illegal (or some Shortness Of Breath - SOB reported the thread). i have already explained that there is a reason why my thread has to be posted here instead of the Trade Zone section, under Bulk Order. it is designed to capture the attention of the iphone users in particular (as there is a price difference between each model and who actually goes there anyway?). it wouldn't be fair and i intend to divide the price fairly between the four.

however clearly rules are rules as usual and we have to abide by it (bla bla bla with more subtle transactions to be paid attention on), but doesn't matter as i think that i have accumulated enough prospective buyers.

this thread is intended to reduce my liabilities by a small portion (not all of course) for future references. so lets get this started! all transactions are in USD unless specified.

each iphone gelaskin costs $14.95 and since we are only purchasing 3 (the 4th one comes free); 3 multiple by 14.95 = $44.85

postage will be fixed at $5.95 regardless of the quantity

sub total will be $50.80

hence the price of each iphone gelaskin will be 50.80 divided by 4 = $12.70

according to the star exchange rate is currently at 3.4830

and that brings the price of each gelaskins to RM44.23 but i will be collecting RM45 for convenient sake and minimise the exchange rate fluctuation. any balance will be returned via maybank2u of course.

as the title suggests,

i am actually contemplating to purchase a GelaSkins for my aifontrigi. kinda like rekindle my ipod nano days

as the title describes, hopefully this has not been posted before, if not it will darn embarrassing

anyway, i just found out (by pure accident), that to do a print screen for both the 1st and 2nd gen iphones, you just need to hold and the sleep/wake and home buttons simultaneously. applicable to the latest 2.0.x firmwares.

just ignore me. i am just too excited and perhaps too blur to care anyway! ha ha

just got from singapore and showered, unpacked everything etc. will update my so called life changing experience later; need to get some rest first. a very complicated story but extremely worth listening (i hope? )

to cut things short, got myself the 8gb version (black version a.k.a. fingerprint magnet) for 1000 sing dollars (my dollar ringgit conversion was 2.4). a brand new unit, with a receipt tabulating the purchase date and a nice seller (who kept his promise). double checked the part numbers as well (found here) to confirm the origin of the unit too.

i will be heading to singapore this friday to sort out some personal stuffs and also to get myself the localised version of aifontrigi.

i have devised a plan to get all this worked out, but i do need the prospective buyer to contribute something non-monetary; to man the internet from malaysia and to make calls. i do not intend to make a profit out of this, as it will be a win-win situation for both of us.

interested buyers would need to PM me, and i will then explain to you the plan (trust me, it is not some crazy plan). i have already elaborated to davidgary73 and he understood it without any hassle.

According to company spokesperson Liu Kun, the woman was snapped by her coworker, an iPhone quality tester in manufacturer Foxconn's factory in Shenzhen. She smiled and made a peace sign for the camera, and her colleague apparently forgot to delete the photo from the phone. It was sold in Britain shortly thereafter, and the owner immediately posted the images on the Web.

According to Liu, the woman was "unsettled" by the sudden fame, after her photo graced Web sites and newspapers around the world. Fortunately, her bosses have assured her that her job was safe, and that the company wouldn't release her personal information to the public.

"Even passers-by recognize her face and can't help noticing her," Liu said. "She is quite nervous right now because she never experienced this much attention." It's not the first time such a thing has happened, but Kun insists that his company is working with Apple to prevent such accidents in the future.

NEW DELHI: In an abrupt move, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has said that it will not recognise medical degrees offered by India's leading Manipal University, citing lack of clinical facilities and flouting of regulations.

Last week the MCI, a regulatory body of medical institutions, announced its decision not to recognise the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBs) courses offered in the university's Kasturba Medical Colleges in Manipal and Mangalore.

"There were several inadequacies in the college which would not allow students to benefit completely from the course," a senior MCI official was quoted as saying.

But responding to MCI's action, Manipal University's ProChancellor Dr H.S Ballal said that although the MCI had derecognised the institution, the ultimate decision would depend on the Health Ministry.

"We have written to the Health Ministry and they have sent a team to observe the university. They wanted a compliance report from us.

"We have submitted the report and the matter is still pending. We hope to get a reply within two to three weeks. We hope the matter will be resolved in favour of us," Dr Ballal told Bernama.

Manipal is popular among Malaysian students and this year 54 students have enrolled for the MBBS and dentistry courses.

Established in 1953, Kasturba, the first private medical college in India, is among the top 10 medical colleges in the country and has the largest concentration of foreign students, from over 50 countries.

Five government medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh are also on the MCI's black list. - Bernama

i do appreciate your kind incentives (from the bottom of my heart) to update us regarding the latest apps etc. but i think for simplicity sake and also ease for new users (to avoid silly questions), why dont you create a thread especially for this? for starters, you can integrate your previous threads about the new apps and how to troubleshoot etc into one and continue from there.

accidently knocked a proton wira aeroback

anyway it WAS raining heavily earlier and he (proton wira aeroback) was waiting for his turn to get out of the junction, my right foot lost grip with the brake pedal (heavy rain) and my auto car moved forward automatically and knocked his bumper. mine is fine, but his right side of the bumper shows a clear sign of 'drooping' leaving a gap of approx. 1cm

hence two questions here; how much would this cost roughly and where is the best place to handle this around the city centre around? thanks a lot for your suggestions. appreciate them
