The Eneloops are very good. I've been using them for almost a year now. I personally have about 40 AAs & AAAs all purchased from AllIT in LYP. MacBook Air owners gather here and share your experience with the latest from Apple.

I just got mine from Machines, Sunway this evening. Only manage to play with it at 10pm due to horrendous traffic jams and have not been doing much except for installing some stuff so not much to say but here are some...

...First Impressions
1.0 RM6299. Ouch. No 2% rebate from Machines due to low margins, they say. Grrr. No free gifts. How about a manila envelope? Now that would be a nice gimmick.
1.1 Saw at least 2 other people buying the MBA in the one hour I was at Machines.
1.2 Didn't buy ACPP RM899 but will get it later. External Superdrive RM389. No other MBA accesories yet.
2. The packaging is small. A lot more iPhone-like than MacBook style. Black in colour.
3. It's light! It makes a lot of difference carrying my bag with an MBA instead of an iBook G4 inside. My shoulders have been aching lately due to carrying a heavy bag so hopefully this will help. This is my main reason for getting it.
4. It's fast(coming from an iBook G4). Well, as fast as a 1.6Ghz C2D can be. OK it's slow compared to my quad-core but I think it'll be good enough.
5. It's beautiful. You can always rely on Apple's industrial designers.
6. Remote Disk works. Well, only installed MS Office so far. Everything else were from disk images or downloaded from the net.
7. Wireless-N is not too bad. I got about 70-80 mbps copying large files.
8. Fits in MacBook 13.3in sleeves albeit loosely.
9. Cannot open the MBA with one hand.
10. Very solid construction. Made in China.
11. Speaker is loud. Sound quality is oklah.
12. The touchpad button is really narrow. I keep missing it. The huge multi-touch touchpad is well, a touchpad. Multi finger gestures are useful.
13. Screen is very bright and nice but viewing angle not so good. I think it's the same type of screen as a MacBook.
14. I can only open it about 3/4 way before the the bottom part starts lifting up. Maybe because it's new and the hinges are still tight.
15. Really tight around the USB port. Not much space at all.
16. No sleeves yet so I'm using a manila card folder to hold it. I gave it to a friend to hold onto while I unlocked the office door this morning and she didn't realise at all that she had a notebook in her hands.
17. I had it charged fully and will see how long it lasts throughout today.
18. So far only had to a use DVD or CD once so I guess the exclusion of DVD drive isn't too bad. Now going to install WinXP onto VMWare Fusion using Remote Disk. Will it work?
19. Just had a thought. RM6299 for the slowest Mac in the Applestore. Hmmm.

Loving it so far. Will have to see how much of a difference it makes once I start carrying it around.

How to update iPhone 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 Unlocked (8 simple steps for Mac & PC)

Notes & Warnings
-I don't know why but almost all the other guides I've seen on the net have you restoring all the way down to 1.0.2. That's unnecessary.
-Though I haven't tried it, the same procedure will also work for 1.0.2 phones. You may need to revirginise first.
-Look here for 1.0.2 revirginizing.
-This will not work on OOTB iPhones with the new 4.6 bootloader. (OOTB at the moment are 1.1.2s. Rumour has it that some new 1.1.1s are coming with the new bootloader too.)
-Don't be afraid to try. Even if you missed a step, you'll just have to start over. There's almost no chance of bricking the iPhone.
-Having said that, here are 3 warnings:
- 1. Do this at your own risk.
- 2. For those still on 1.0.2. If your iPhone has been unlocked previously with AnySIM 1.0, it must be virginised first.
- 3. Do not run AnySIM 1.2.1u in 1.1.2.

Requirements
My starting point was a virginised, activated, jailbroken, unlocked 1.1.1 iPhone. (which most of us have)
You'll also need a WiFi connection for the iPhone.

Software required (Mac)
- iTunes 7.4.2 (for iPhone Restore & Update)
- iNdependence 1.2.5 (PC users will need iPhuc or iBrckr instead of iNdependence, they are only used to kick the iPhone out of DFU mode)
- If you're using iTunes 7.5, you'll need iNdependence_v1.3_beta2 & MobileDevice_7_4_2.framework.zip

Steps *Please note distinction between Restore & Update.
1. Restore* to 1.1.2 using iTunes
Put your iPhone into recovery mode. (Hold Power & Home buttons. When screen goes black, release Power only. While still holding Home, plug in the cable.)
Click Restore.
This will give us 1.1.2 and baseband 04.02.13_G

2. Restore* down to 1.1.1 using iTunes
Put your iPhone into recovery mode (see above) & connect to computer, option-click Restore
Select the iPhone 1.1.1 ipsw file.
It will end with a 1015 error. That's OK.
Quit itunes and open iNdependence. iNdependence will kick the iPhone out of recovery mode.
PC users, use iBrickr
or iPhuc and issue the following commands:
cmd setenv auto-boot true
cmd saveenv
cmd fsboot
This will give us 1.1.1 and retain baseband 04.02.13_G

3. Activate & Jailbreak 1.1.1 using jailbreakme.com
Instructions from http://jailbreakme.com/safari.html
- On the Activation Screen, slide "slide for emergency" to get to the dialer pad.
- Call *#307# & the phone will ring
- Delete *#307#, type in 0 and hit Call again.
- Press Answer, Hold & Decline.
- Go to Contacts and create a new contact. Create 2 urls:

- Select your WiFi network by prefs://1f.
- Press home and call number 0.
- Answer, Hold & Decline.
- Go to the contact again and touch http://jailbreakme.com
- Install AppSnapp
- This will take a while, be patient & wait till the phone rings. Wait again and the phone should reboot by itself.

This will also install Installer for you.

4. Alternate (replaces steps 4 & 5 below) Unlock 1.1.1 using AnySIM 1.2.1u Thanks to mliberatore.
Add this source to installer: http://rep.frenchiphone.com
Install AnySIM 1.2.1u via Installer. It's in FrenchIphone.com
Set Auto-Lock to Never.
Run AnySIM to unlock the iPhone.
Jump to Step 6

4. Install BSDSubsystem & OpenSSH
Use Installer to install the above 2.

5. Unlock 1.1.1 using AnySIM 1.2.1u
Set Auto-Lock to Never.
Use FuGu or WinSCP to copy AnySIM 1.2.1u to /Applications on the iPhone.
Run AnySIM to unlock the iPhone.

6. Install & run Oktoprep on 1.1.1
Use Installer to install Oktoprep and then run it. It's in Tweaks (1.1.1)

7. Update* to 1.1.2 using iTunes
Connect iPhone to iTunes and do an update. (NOT RESTORE)
This will give us 1.1.2 and baseband 04.02.13_G.
Phone will still be unlocked but it's jailed & not activated.

8. Activate & Jailbreak using 1.1.2 Jailbreak (the .JAR file)
PC users will need Java Runtime.
Run the 1.1.2 Jailbreak on your Mac/PC
On completion it'll reboot twice.
This will give us activated, jailbroken, unlocked 1.1.2 with baseband 04.02.13_G. (ie the latest & the greatest)

9. Fix dialer/SMS crash with pntedit for AppSupport
Basically you'll need to patch AppSupport with pntedit with the following values:

Use Installer.app to install iWorld. It's in Tweaks (1.1.2) It fixes the crashes and uses French rules for callerid matching. (untested by myself)

This will fix the iPhone crashing when you try to dial using the keypad.
Calling from an Address Book entry is OK.

How to Unlock a 1.1.1 Phone

Thanks to functionality already built into the iPhone, an unlock is possible from any software or firmware version.

With your iPhone turned on, but sleeping, hit the home button once. You will be prompted to "slide to unlock". Touch your finger to the slider button and drag it all the way to the right, then release. Your iPhone is now unlocked.

Important note: To prevent your phone from becoming locked again, touch your screen and move your finger around.

How to upgrade your unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone to an unlocked 1.1.1 iPhone (for OS X)
If you have an unlocked 1.0.2 iPhone, like I do, and like to be on the bleeding edge or just itching to download some songs directly to your iPhone, this is the guide for you. Be aware that you will be tinkering with the very guts of your iPhone and there's always a chance that you'll brick it or even worse turn it into a HTC Touch. In any case, I'd like to assure you that I've successfully upgraded 2 iPhones using the methods outlined in this guide. This guide is a consolidation of information & unlocking methods discovered in the hackint0sh.org & iPhone Elite forums. Credits must be given to naximus (hackint0sh.org) & Tifel (iPhone Elite), iPhone Elite Team for the revirginizing tool & Dev Team for AnySim 1.1.

For added peace-of-mind it is advisable to install the vt100 terminal application or MobileTerminal prior to running through this process just in case anything fails and you lose wifi access.
All references to IP address 192.168.1.100 should be replaced by your phone's IP address.)

Connect your iPhone to your Mac & quit iTunes if it comes up. Remember to watch out for ituneshelper in Activity Monitor.
Install SSH server using iNdependence. Just follow its instructions. The iPhone will need to be restarted twice. (If you already have a SSH server running, I still recommend uninstalling and installing the one from iNdependence)
Disconnect your iPhone from the Mac & plug it into the charger.

Uncompress virginizer_pack.zip on the Mac, open a terminal session, cd to the folder where you extracted virginizer_pack & copy the entire folder to your iPhone. The password for root is dottie

scp -r virginizer_pack root@192.168.1.100:/usr/bin

Backup your seczone

Connect to your phone:

ssh root@192.168.1.100

Change to the working directory:

cd /usr/bin/virginizer_pack

Stop CommCenter: (-w is not needed and is unrelated to norz "Waiting for data" problems)

launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

Make norz executable:

Make a seczone backup: (should only take about 2 seconds)

Power off the iPhone and power on. An "Incorrect SIM" message will appear as your iPhone is now locked. It should still be activated & jailbroken. If it is not then you'll need to activate & jailbreak using iNdependence which should be fairly straightforward.

PRE-111 firmware preparation

Connect your iPhone to the Mac.
Open iNdependence. (iNdependence's status should be "Connected to iPhone - Firmware 1.0.2 - activated - AFC connection - jailbroken)
Go to the Firmware tab and click the "Pre 1.1.1 Upgrade "button. Enter your iPhone's IP address and use dottie as the password.
Follow the instructions from iNdependence. (Open iTunes, Set Up Your iPhone as a new phone, Give it a name, Click Continue)
Once the iPhone is shown in iTunes, go back to iNdependence and click OK.
iNdependence will do its Pre-111 magic for about 10 seconds.
When the " Success Your phone is now ready to be upgraded to 1.1.1" dialog appears, click OK.
Quit iNdependence.

Now switch back to iTunes which should be in your dock and running.

Update to 1.1.1 using iTunes

Click UPDATE NOT RESTORE.
If you have not downloaded the 1.1.1 ipsw file, iTunes will do so now. This will take awhile. It's a 152MB file.
iTunes will then extract, verify, update & verify again so please wait while your iPhone is upgraded to 1.1.1. It shouldn't take longer than 7 minutes.

Once the wait is over you should get a message from iTunes saying that the iPhone has been updated. Click OK and quit iTunes.

Your iPhone will restart and the screen will show "Activate iPhone".

Activate & Jailbreak 1.1.1

Open iNdependence. Verify that the status is "Connected to iPhone - Firmware 1.1.1 - not activated - AFC connection - jailed". If you see anything else, sorry, but you'll have to start over.

Activate the iPhone. Go to the Activation Tab and click Activate Phone.
After about 1 min 30 secs, iNdependence will ask you to power off & on the iPhone. Just follow its instructions.
You'll need to power off & on the iPhone one more time and it should have been activated & jailbroken.

Status is now "Connected to iPhone - Firmware 1.1.1 - activated - AFC connection - jailbroken"

Reinstall SSH. Go to the SSH tab and click "Install SSH/SFTP/SCP". You will have to restart the iPhone twice for this.

Unlock 1.1.1

Now go to the Customize tab. Click on Applications and System.
Click Add button and browse to your downloaded anySIM 1.1 location and select it. Use AnySIM1.1, AnySIM 1.1p did not work for me.
You will be asked for iPhone's IP address and password. Use "alpine" for the password. If you get a "Host Verification Failed" message, just click Yes to fix it.
Quit independence.

Put your SIM into the iPhone if it's not already in. (I left my DiGi SIM in throughout the whole process accidentally and it was OK.)
You should see anySIM in your springboard.
Touch anySIM & Slide to Unlock. Read the License Agreement and scroll down till you see a red button.
Touch the red "OK. Unlock My Phone" button.
Wait while AnySIM copies, erases & flashes firmware. This takes about 4 mins 50 secs.
Finally and hopefully, the message you see is "Unlock Successful!" Touch OK.
Restart the iPhone.

Post Unlock Steps (Optional but recommended)

Use iNdependence to remove both AnySIM & SSH (You can keep SSH if you like but it runs in the background all the time thereby reducing your iPhone's battery life).

Now you should have an activated, jailbroken & unlocked iPhone 1.1.1.

I've done this to 3 phones and all have gone well with Calls, SMS, WiFi & Youtube all working.

iPhone compatible headphones

I've been searching around for a better set of headphones for listening to music on the iPhone but, as you may know, the iPhones 3.5mm jack is recessed thereby rendering most headphones unusable. I thought that it might help if I list out the ones that I've found that are compatible as well as the ones that aren't.

Please let us know if you've found any headphones that fits the iPhone.

Please share what cases or pouches that you protect your iPhone with? If it's a good deal, please tell us where you bought it and at what price.

I've seen some nice leather & silicone cases on sale at various Apple shops but they're pretty dear.

Personally I use a RM15 leather case with belt clip purchased from a stall in Endah Parade, Sri Petaling. The only downside is that it has the Nokia logo embossed onto it but it's fairly discreet. It's almost a perfect fit too and the cutouts allow me to use my headphones.

My wife is using a RM3 cute doggy pouch purchased from the pasar malam. She's been using it with other phones for the past year and it turned out to be a fairly good fit for the iPhone.

Please share what cool things you've done to spice up the look of your iPhone. Wallpapers, icons, themes and even sounds. An original work of your own, fantastic. A gem found on the web, marvellous!

To start things off, this is what I've done to my wife's iPhone. I got the theme from modmyiphone.com. My wife likes it and my daughter absolutely loves it. It's a Tinkerbell theme.

Mine is still work in progress as I'm trying to do something original but I've just realised that I'm not that creative.
