guys, i just bought the AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6Ghz and currently happy with the performance.

but one thing that bothers me, is the fan noise. IT'S TOO NOISY! i thought the fan was running at full speed, but when i stressed the proc, OMFG THE FAN IS NOISIER THAN THAT!

is there a way to make the noise sound quieter? other than changing it to 3rd party cooler of course.

and, if all else fail, can i use back my AMD Athlon X2 3600+ fan?

bought ATI 4770, but PC couldn't start (solved!)

problem solved, it's the board and processor that died. and i dont know why suddenly it died.

and i bought a Athlon II x4 620 instead of buying the 9150e from my friend, and bought a new board (Asus M2N68-AM Plus):

8 hour battery life, 14inches laptops

hi there, i thought of opening a new thread rather than posting in recommendation thread.

lately i noticed there are demand in buying a 14" laptop that gives 8hours or more battery life (kudos to Acer for starting this trend).

and so i thought of buying one of those with a budget of RM2900~3000.

currently im looking at:

1. Acer Timeline 4810TG (C2D SU9400, 320GB harddisk, 2GB DDR3 RAM, ATI Mobility 4330, Vista Home Premium)

2. Asus UL80V (C2D SU7300, 320GB Harddisk, 2GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia Geforce 210M, Vista Home Premium)

3. Dell Inspiron 14z (C2D SU7300, 320GB hard disk, 3GB DDR3 RAM, ATI Mobility 4330, Vista Home Premium)

which is better among all 3? i can't seem to choose.

Points:
1. Dell has the best aftersales service, but only 1 year warranty until i can stretch the budget.
2. Asus has Turbo33 Technology which overclocks the processor to 1.73Ghz from 1.3Ghz, and faster graphic card (Geforce 210m).
3. Acer is more business oriented. looks bland, but it does fine to me w/o all that glossy fingerprint stuffs (Asus and Dell is glossy iianm)
4. Windows 7, yeah i can wait for the windows 7 version of these laptops, just that i need early preparation on which to choose.
5. performance between these laptops.

i need feedbacks. afterall, CULV laptops with 14" are still new in the market.

DRBD + GFS fencing

dudes, im running 2 servers running DRBD and GFS on it.

followed examples from here: http://gfs.wikidev.net/DRBD_Cookbook

did some tweaking like my ip address and the location of the DRBD (/dev/drbd0) for the /etc/drbd.conf..and used the obliterate script.

my problem is that when one of the server is down, i can't access GFS (GFS freezes) and i need to do the configurations again every time, because when mount the gfs using command:

mount -t gfs /dev/drbd0 /mnt/drbdtest

gfs keep saying that it can't connect to gfs_controld: connection refused.

my drbd is on primary/primary mode already. what's the cause of the problem?

VMWare Workstation 6.0 can't get DHCP IP

it seems that my vmware workstation guest OS (CentOS, SLES) can't get DHCP IP. it's always has an IP like this: 5.xxx.xxx.xxx

any cause for this prob? i never experience this prob in winXP though.

i would like to enquire about intel OCable boards which is below RM500 due to my tight budget.

my requirement:
-doesnt necessarily needed to be a world record OC board
-im on air cooling
-decent +25~30% OC (which i know P45 boards are really capable in this)
-reliability; using for this board for at least another 2 years.
-doesn't necessarily need to have crossfire

im looking into Biostar T-power i45, but then some of the forumers here experiencing problems like unable to bootup, USB not working.

im also looking into Asus P5Q and P5Q Pro which is quite a reliable board also.

gigabyte boards are good too but im worried about their reliability as several of my friends already selling and RMAed their board already.

if possible i would want the cheapest board that has my preference as above.

guys, i was being offered by German-Malaysian Institute to further my studies at University of Sunderland. since i'm taking diploma in network security here in GMi, i was offered to take degree programme on either;

2. Computer Systems Engineering (Top-Up) http://www.sunderland.ac.uk/study/course/5...ineering_top_up

not much is known about this university in computing field, esp networking. googling doesnt bear fruitful results too.

what i heard is that these course are not approved by the Malaysian Engineering Board. but then again, from what i heard MEB certified is only useful if you're working with the govt or if want to be Ir.. since it's a topup programme, learning period is around 1 year or so only.

as for the loan, either i'm taking from MARA or Agrobank. easier and less hassle.

so should i take the offer or reject and continue study at IPTA/IPTS?

ideas for final year project

hey guys, i hope i'm in the right forum to ask about this.

im taking diploma at German-Malaysian Institute in Network Security course. since my batch is the first, we don't have any examples for our ideas hence making us headache thinking what to do for our final year project.

my status now:

1.since i'm taking diploma, my programming level and knowledge about network and its security is quite basic, but i'm willing to learn more. and since i'm in the pioneer batch, there are too many adjustments to my subjects to fine-tune the network security course. so, for programming i've only managed to learn basic C, java, PERL, shell language and basic socket programming

2. i've also learnt about basic server configurations (windows server 2003/2008, SLES and BSD), managing DHCP, mail and web server, and firewall.

3. i've also learnt about basic network device configurations for Huawei-3COM and CISCO router and switches (real-life practical, not simulation).

4. i've also learnt about honeypots and using some network security tools e.g. wireshark, wikto, nikto, nessus, snort, cain and abel, zenmap etc.

5. i've also learnt basic oracle database handling.

any ideas for me?i'm thinking of perhaps build some custom firewall or network monitoring tools. can't think much here.i can't widen my scope.

hmm guys, im thinking of using softwares other than NHC (Notebook Hardware Control).

is there any other software that is equivalent to this software?i need features such as undervolting, auto CPU clocking and Hard disk Acoustic management.

the reason of why i wanted to change is that NHC hasn't provide any official update yet to their product (last update is on 4th May 2007, version 2.0 pre-release 06).

dilemma choosing 4gb RAM or 2gb RAM + cooler

i intend to make an overclocking rig. right now i got the intel stock HSF, intel pentium dual-cre e2160 processor , Biostar t-power i45 mobo and a Gainward GS 4850 HD graphic card. and my OS would be Windows Vista 32bit or 64bit (depends).

since it's been awhile i've played with OC, i wanted to start out with intel pentium dual core e2160 m0 stepping first due to:

1. budget constraint
2. cheaper and easier to learn OC

so i wanna ask,what should i buy with a budget of RM400?

1. a 2GB kit high performance RAM + Sunbeamtech Core Contact Freezer

or

2. a 4GB kit high performance RAM

so which one is better?also, what brand should i buy for the best bang of buck?is it Team XTREEM Dark, Crucial Ballistix, OCZ Reaper or others?

crossfire x16/x16 motherboards around RM600

k guys, i got questions here.

is there any motherboard that is around RM600 that can use Crossfire x16/16 mode?so far i've come across is:

-Asus P5E
-Abit IX38 QuadGT

im into OC (mild OC the moment) and large HSF (air cooling) such as Deepcool Killer Whale.

so between those two, which you guys recommend?i heard that the Asus P5E bios can be flashed into Asus Maximus Formula or even Rampage formula for extra OC ability etc.

and Abit, on the other side, has mixed reviews on it. some got a good board while some can't even OC properly or get BSOD although not OC-ing (im referring to xtremesystem's forum thread on this board)

i'll be buying an AMD quadcore rig w/o monitor.so need you guys opinion.

my budget is <RM2000 for the core, and <RM 3000 for complete PC.

here are the specs:

ok here are some of my reasons for the rig above:

1. I'll be buying the rig part by part, so that's why I wanted a built-in graphic card for my motherboard..so that the PC will be functioning even though i decided not to buy the ATI 4850 grafic card.
2. Those 3 extras are the last things that I will buy for the rig.
3. Why AMD?Why not Intel?I know that with that kind of setup, i can get a Q6600 with a P45 board, but it seems that those boards doesn't have built-in grafic card. and AMD's performance for B3 processors aren't far behind Intel than those B2 TLB-bugged.
4. It seems that I'm a fan of Asus. no?
~~5. The PSU seems overkill to me. but then i doubt cheaper PSU will suffice if i completed buying this rig 100%. ATI 4850 maa...~~ so 500w still overkill or not?
5. extra harddisk for extra storage. plus maybe i'll do RAID0 for faster performance.
6. Why quad core? it seems that once in a blue moon only i got the chance (or mood) to buy computer parts. maybe using this rig for atleast 3 years. so frequent upgrade is a no-no to me.
7. About that Lian-li, well, i'm quite a small person, and then i intend to bring this PC for LAN parties. so a CM690 which weighs at least 8kg w/o the insides is not suitable for me as the Lian-li is aluminium-based casing, hence it's lighter.
8. and yes, i do gaming.
9. and i do make full use of VMWare and Virtualbox (virtualization softwares)

any comments, critics, suggestions are welcomed.

help regarding kancil

hmm, i'm asking on behalf of my friend.

he's driving a perodua kancil 660cc which head has been matched with daihatsu mira L2.

He said he need a new gearbox since he said got pickup on gear 1 and 2, but he felt great power lost when changing to gear 3 and so on. while on highway, he only used the fourth gear as the fifth gear makes his car go slower..like from 120km/h on gear 4, then when change to gear 5, it'll go down to 100km/h.

What gearbox is suitable for him?
