Alright, the WCG 2009 Grand Finals are finally here! Group stages will start from tomorrow onwards up till the finale on Sunday, November 15. Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is an upcoming online strategy games developed by the US-based S2 Games. Fans might remember their older titles - Savage and Savage 2, which combined FPS and RTS into action-packed games. However, HoN is a totally different beast altogether, as it is heavily based on a very popular Warcraft 3 mod called Defense of The Ancients.

We knew we already got your attention whenever DoTA name is mentioned. HoN is currently under closed beta testing, we are giving away a number of test keys, courtesy of S2 Games, for all Lowyat.NET friends out there to test it out yourselves.

As for now, Go International is able to confirmed ONE Counter-Strike 1.6 team and ONE blogger will be going to DreamHack Winter 2009. More games might be announced on 1st August.

According to Jasmine, they are still working towards their ideal Team Malaysia contingent which is pretty huge - could easily involved more than 20 people from gamers, indie band and youth journalist. Jasmine also welcomes any individuals, bands or organization who are able to self-fund the trip, to be under the Team Malaysia banner.

EA's John Riccitiello says that the company was torturing its Vancouver team with a rigorous 12 month development cycle, but that has now been changed for the better.

At the William Blair & Company's 28th Annual Growth Stock Conference, he indicated that he was pretty disappointed with Need for Speed last year.

"I thought it was an okay game, in terms of gameplay. It's not good. But who wanted Pro Street? It was a sort of made up, put numbers on the side of your car and pretend to drive your Ferrari where? Or your Porsche where?"

This year, the company will be releasing Need For Speed: Undercover - a game with a very strong mission structure that Riccitiello compared to The Transporter.

"For those of you who ever saw movies like The Transporter - it's sort of a cult classic among people with a B-movie mentality, which fits me perfectly.

"I liked it. I apologize. For those of you with no taste, and you liked it too, we can go have a Schlitz after this."

He said that the new title is a much richer proposition with a huge, embedded storyline behind it. Thanks to the strong narrative hook, he feels really good about the title.

Riccitiello noted that the Vancouver Need For Speed team had been working for eight consecutive years on a 12 month development cycle.

"Last summer we added head count and split the team in two, so now there are two teams on a 24 month cycle. And this is sort of their first 16 and-a-half month game...Because we didn't do it far enough ago to give us a full two year dev cycle."

Next year's game will be a full two year development cycle, he said.

"We were torturing a very talented group of people up in Vancouver, which makes it harder to be as innovative every year. So, I think we are going to get better from here.

"I'm confident that Undercover is a much better game than Pro Street, and I expect that from this point forward they will do a lot better."

The team for WCG 2008 Grand Finals departed to Cologne on Monday night, with yet another mission to win Malaysia's first ever WCG medal. According to our short group stage analysis, this year's mission will be toughest ever but nevertheless, nothing is impossible.

The annual Computer and Electronic Games (CELgames) tournament is back! Organized by Gamers Dotcom and GameAxis, the all EA tournament is currently in its fourth year. There are three official games for this year’s event:

* Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath
* FIFA’08
* Need for Speed ProStreet

While the Grand Finals dates was already known (or at least speculated) since last month, the qualifier’s dates and venue were only revealed yesterday at their official website. They are:

* 21st June: Tbun, Wangsa Maju, KL
* 28th June: FTZ Asia.net, SS15 Subang Jaya
* 11th/12th July: Midvalley Megamall, KL

Some of the above dates clashed with some of the WCG Malaysia 2008 qualifiers (more on that later), so you might want to plan your participation accordingly. Plus, if my hunch is right, there could be another CELgames’08 qualifier at Multimedia University since the university is listed as a Venue Sponsor.

Another piece of the puzzle that haven’t been revealed by the website is the prize list. I predict that we are going to see the usual offerings such as cash prizes, hardwares and PCs. On top of that, I predict that there will be something extra since Celcom is listed as one of the event’s Platinum Sponsor. Some handphones or wireless broadband stuff perhaps?

It is going to be very busy from this month onwards. Buckle up, people!

Not to forget, EA Sports is going to give away 50 of their latest footie game, EA UEFA Euro 2008 to the participants randomly. Not enough with that, EA Germany also throw down a sweet foosball table as a lucky draw prize for players that made it through the first round!

The first qualifier will start either this Sunday or Monday (depends on what time the event starts). Better make you mind fast as the registration will be closed at 5:00am Malaysian Standard Time on Friday, 14th March. The registration is free.

I don't need to introduce Quake 3 Arena since it's pretty much a bad ass game that everybody know.

This thread is similar to the Trackmania Nations thread - http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/633628 whereby ESWC Malaysia's organizer is interested to know how many Quake 3 Arena players are still around.
