Of Harddisk Drive problems

Hey guys,
i have a Maxtor Basics 1TB external drive which i bought recently, formatted in NTFS. I don't know what happened to it, but all of a sudden, the light on the case starts blinking rapidly. which wasn't supposed to happen. Before this, it would blink when accessing it but in longer delays and slowly. As a result, I can't seem to access it on any computer, even tried with different USB ports etc. but no go. Its not underpowered as i'm using the default adaptor that it came with.
I'm scared i might not be able to recover the files inside(I have over 480gb of stuff) and so i have turned to LYN to ask for your help and directions on where to go from here...
Is the drive recoverable? has anyone has these kinds of problems before because its not the first time for me. I had an external drive before(with case) and it died on me just like that as well. Something to do with the power too...

Can i find any experts in repairing harddisks anywhere in KL or Malaysia? Anyone knows any reliable people i could turn to for help on repairing faulty harddisks? currently i already have a dead harddisk sitting in my cupboard, i dont wanna add another one to the collection.
So please, help me... thanks ^^

Forumer "Sony" tried to scam me for refund

I sold a Sony ericsson G900 Red link on 2nd feb 2009 at RM760 to forumer named Sony. h/p: 016-6687159
As Stated clearly in the topic, i did not offer any personal warranty as it is a very new phone(2months) and it is still under warranty by the shop. I even gave the receipt of purchase.
However, at 2am the next day(3rd feb 2009), forumer Sony sms-ed me about some LCD problem i had never experienced before and demands me to give him a refund. I told him i do not give refunds and i did not offer personal warranty as warranty is still covered by the shop i bought it from. then he went furious and kept demanding me for refund, and threatening to report that I sold him a faulty phone to moderators, thats when i started to feel suspicious.
So out of goodwill and also to show my sincerity that i did not sell him a faulty phone, i offered to accompany him to the shop in PJ digital mall and check with the shop. then he replied:
"the problem only happens sometimes, how would i know when the shop checks it it will happen?"

already suspecting hes trying to scam me and also to make my stand i replied him:
"if the problem doesnt happen all the time, how would i know whether does the problem even exists?? now i am already offering to take my time off and accompany you to the shop to check do you want or not?"

his reply, still pressing for refund:
"if the shop check got problem will i get refund?"

i told him:
"no, but depending on the situation, i will pay for whatever extra costs needed to repair the phone"

then he replied:
"ok i will think about it, tell you tomorrow"

afraid that he might spoil the phone on purpose by tomorrow and still give me complaints, i insisted he reply me in 2 hours else the phone is no longer my responsibility anymore.

In the end he did not reply me. Which proves that there never was a problem and he was too afraid to admit it. I won.

Now, i checked the forum and found out that he actually changed his mind after buying the phone, then tried to scam me for refund so that he can buy the phone he really wanted. To further prove my point,
This WTB thread was started before he bought my phone.
And after failed attempts to scam me for refund, he started This thread to sell off the phone he bought from me at a higher price(RM850) than what I sold to him.

Now very coincidentally, the months of warranty is similar to my phone so it couldn't be another phone and his topic clearly stated reason for sale is changing to nokia, which compliments the WTB thread.

In a nutshell, he never had the intention to buy from me in the first place, faked a problem that never happened or even existed before and tried to scam me back for refund. After failed attempt to get his refund, now he is selling the phone off at a higher value that what its worth.

Now i don't care what price he wants or can sell it for since ive already gotten my fair share of cash, but for what its worth, I hope LYN-ers are aware of this ungrateful, incompetent, immatured, goddamn f****** Son of a B**** and may the mods and admins allow it, ban him from any future transaction in this forum be it buy or sell.

Now if its not too selfish, I demand an apology from him admitting he has tried to scam me for refund.
and on a side note, he doesn't deserve the nickname Sony at all. Being a Sony fanboy all my life, i think he has tainted the name just by having it as a nickname.

To forumer Sony: I want you to know that I didn't feel the slightest threatened by you. And that I was, and always will be one step ahead of you during the argument. You said you wanted to report me and spoil my reputation? well we'll see whos reputation will be spoiled now.
You don't mess with me. I'll make sure you taste utter defeat, i'll make sure you are too afraid to even blink. And at the end of it all, I want you to remember that I did this to you.
You have unleashed the Dragon(Ryu) in me. RAWR!

All about Jazz

Ok i realised this thread will probably not get much attention due to the over amount of rockers in the forum...
But i aim to bring out all the 'jazzers' that are hiding in the forum. You know who you are, so come and register yourself! xD

This idea came after witnessing the 'spectacularity' of the Penang Jazz Festival recently. I gotta hand it to ya, though there were numerous international bands performing, our local jazz bands were the ones that really blew me away... Only then i realised there are actually so much potential in local musicians to be shown to the world, only i haven't realized it before... I was more than amazed, i was petrified and inspired by these people!!

I mean in all honesty, local indie rock bands suck big time. Only a handful of them sound good and even fewer are actually really original..

So for those wanting to strut that jazz lick, heres your chance to prove yourself. If we gather enough jazzers in this forum, there might be a gathering.

LYN JAZZERS UNITE!!

Official Vocalist Thread!

Ok i realised vocalist are not getting enough attention in this forum so i've decided to start a vocalist thread.
By the way, i'm NOT a vocalist, but i love to sing, really. and i believe my singing, pitching is fine. The only problem (and the first question of the thread) is, i have a good "singing voice". I'm not sure whether you guys understand my question or not, but i feel that my "timbre" isn't right. You know this because most singers, when they talk and when they sing, they have a different voice altogether. so i'm asking veteran vocalists here, how to achieve that "singing voice" is there a particular technique to do it?
also, i cant hit the notes after two octaves of the middle C.
I'm really a sucker for songs that can go really high pitched so i wish to achieve that as well to satisfy myself >.<

oh i was googling somewhat and found sumthin called headvoice.. what is that? @_@

Where do YOU buy your guitars

Do you think Guitar shops are ripping us off? Because i have heard that they mark up the price really high when the guitar is actually worth very little...
So say for example, a RM200 guitar is marked up to RM1000. Its ironic because I am paying RM1000 for a guitar which only values RM200...
Of course, this is just what i heard. All my years playing guitar(not many years, only 3) i bought my guitars from my teacher, who in turn(claims he) knows suppliers who can give him a good, decent prices(i've checked and its true, he does get unique guitars at good prices) The drawback is, i never got to choose the guitar...

But my latest request results in a dilemma. I asked him for a good acoustic with decent pickups for performance. When i got it, it gave all kinds of problems, the tuning head was loose, the fretboard bent(had to turn it back up) and the built in pickup hums when the sound engineer checked it. It was actually a decent guitar with fairly good attacks despite being some unknown brand.
So i returned it to him and told him i would like to check out other places before i decide again. Then he went on and on about how guitar shops cheat people for money, they mark up the price really high etc. etc (the typical china man stuff when you don't wanna buy things from them)

Given, in my years playing guitar, i have never learned the essential and probably the most basic thing, which is how to choose a good guitar(or how to buy one) I ended up writing this post and hoping you guys would enlighten me on the best place(with good after sales service and level of professionalism) to buy a guitar in KL.

Where do YOU guys buy your guitar? Do you think they really mark up the price that high? Do you think we are getting ripped off buying from these shops? Is it worth buying from these shops? do you get what you pay?

Requesting Strum-n-Sing alongs

Yo people! I just came back from P L K N! All i gotta say is, depending on the camp, experiences are different. I happen to get a camp in perak, and man was it boring @_@
Everyday have to berbaris, kira kekuatan etc etc. it gets to become a routine, and nth fun happens. the kem komanden and the jurulatihs are all by the book..

So anyways not to run out of topic, im requesting popular chinese and malay pop songs for me to strum. being in the camp makes me realise how little chinese and malay songs i actually listen to. Not to mention i strum even less (too much classical and fingerstyle influence) not that i dunno how to strum, but plain strumming is just boring imo. So would the good people please lead me to popular malay and chinese pop songs that i can strum and sing along to? Its to entertain the camp and also prepare for performances thanks alot =)

So i recently bought my PS3. Having real fun with it, turning it into a dvd player, blu-ray player, messing with the media server, streaming songs, videos, animes, playing games, surfing net etc. Until ive come to a point thinking i just turned my PS3 into a full fledged media center WITH games.
However, I have friends having different opinions about my PS3. They say PC is still superior because it can be constantly upgraded and customized (ie. upgrade Graphics card, processor, RAM etc.)

So, what do fellow LYN think? Are Next-Gen Consoles(PS3, xbox360) Superior? Are my friends just jealous of me proudly owning a next-Gen Console? Or are the two things really different that they are incomparable?

Health supplement/power bracelet

Okay, this has been bothering me for quite sometime now.
It started when my teacher introduced a kind of power bracelet that is made of titanium or something like that, that is said to "improve blood circulation" He did a few "tests" with and without the bracelet. This includes:

1) putting your hand behind your back, clasp tight and then he presses it down
2) standing straight, without moving your feet, turn your body towards the back until you reach maximum
3) standing with the right leg and extending your left hand to your sides then he presses you down.

The results were as follows:
Without the bracelet:
1) you feel unbalanced towards the back, literally almost falling down
2) the maximum circumference you can turn is limited
3) again, feeling unbalanced and falling.

With the bracelet:
1) You feel stable, "stronger" and in control, not falling down
2) the maximum you can turn increases
3) again, feeling "stronger" and not falling down

This test was NOT down on me personally. It was done to other classmates as an example. Now as man of logic and science, my brain told me that this was logically not possible because:
1) A simple bracelet couldnt have "powered" you up
2) Even if it HAS effects, it wouldn't have effected you almost instantly

I put that incident behind my head for sometime now. Until just awhile ago, my mentor did the same tests ON ME. Which proved everything above EXCEPT, Instead of wearing the bracelet, he was just touching me....
Then he said it was some kind of health supplement.

So LYN, tell me, am i living in a fantasy world where you can "power up" just by drinking some supplement or wearing a bracelet? Cause all these sound like an online game or something.
Are all these are some hoax by some MLM?? or is there a science and logic behind all this??

Please point me in the right direction. If possible, include links to prove your point. I don't want another MLM seller promoting their stuff to me.
Thanks ^^

Music after spm

Ok, there are tons of engineering, medicine, architecture, even the Im-not-sure-what-to-do-after-spm threads but ive not seen one for music. Is there not anyone who share the same dream and goal as I?

The thing is, I need some advice choosing a college after spm on this. I've found a few colleges that allows me to do that namely LKW, UCSI and ICoM. However, UCSI and LKW is out of the question cause ive been there, seen it and called them before. It didn't give me a good impression.
That leaves ICoM and ive pretty much set my mind on it already.
In case you're wondering, yes i do know how to differentiate between a flat and a sharp lol. In other words, i have music background
My question is, Are there any other music colleges or colleges that offers music out there besides those three that i should know of? If so, which would you recommend.
Secondly, Is there anyone currently studying music or doing it as a career? Care to give some advice or info on how is it like in a music college?

No thirdly heh. Just feel free to share your opinions. Perhaps there might be even one or two out there who shares this dream ^^

Western Game Music(WGM) vs. Asian Game Music(AGM)

I personally prefer AGM. Why? Cause it thrills me more to listen to music that is in accordance to the scenery or situation in the game. Take Final Fantasy as an example. Hugely influential game not only because of its story and graphics but also because of its music. Nobuo Uematsu succeeded in capturing and enticing me into the world of game music. Its like a genre by itself!! Even in other asian games like the simple yet famous MMORPG Ragnarok Online. Almost every map or every different scenery has that relaxing peaceful music. Whereas in dungeons you'll hear a more upbeat and dangerous tune.

Ive played World of Warcraft and i'm sorry to say i could barely as to hear a note from it. There was barely any music except maybe the rare times you hear birds chirping... Never once have i listened to a western game music so intently i feel like buying the album. Ok maybe there was ONCE. Command and Conquer - Hell's March, one hell of a song. Sure, the gameplays are nice, but thats about it. No catchy tunes or anything that captures your feeling.

Discuss.

PS to mod: move it to gamer's hideout if you feel inappropriate.

1.5mbit/s?

Broadband provider
ISP/package: Tmnut/ 2mbit
Location: B. Sunway, PJ
Have you called your ISP's helpline?:

Personal equipment
Modem:
Router:
Firewall used:

Problem details
First occurence of problem:
Problem frequency:
Problem description:

Ok heres the case, I'm subscribed to a 2mb connection from tmnut. However, my modem status tells me my downstream/upstream is 1.5/0.5
I think they messed up my connection details or something. DDLs too, cant go over 1.5kbps. This has been happening for a long time now. I just called the tech support, and he told me "only if you get less than 75% of your subscribe package will we consider it as SLOW connection"
Of course, i cant accept that, after all, 512kb is ONE tmnut package, and losing it would mean im not getting what i paid for. I'm not really looking for tech support, i just feel like ranting about it thats all. But if anyone can help out, id be pretty damn pleased.

On a different note, How come i see some LYN forumer sigs having over 10mbps connection in KL? is that even possible? or was the speedometer just rigged?

PSP Analog

Heres my dilemma:
My psp analog doesnt seem to be working very well. It keeps going down by itself(if you know what i mean)
I have identified the problem, It seems that the small transparent rubber thing under the analog is slightly damaged. And due to the sensitivity of the rubber connector thingy. It would keep "pressing" the down button.

So here i am asking for help. Here, i have two choices:
1) order the damaged rubber part online or, buy it from anyone here who doesn't want their psp or happens to have psp spare parts.
2) someone who is able get sony's warranty for me by "sticker exchange" method

Since my PSP is a PSP-1000. It would be fortunate if someone would be willing to exchange the barcode with me lol

Or are there any repair game shops out there that can get the spare part for me? i would gladly buy it from them.

PS: i might need a new facelift too, a cheap and durable one would be great ^^

Thx in advanced guys ^^

Mod please move this to the playstation section, sorry.
