House details : double storey terrace house, unfurnished, front porch with small garden, food stall nearby, small park behind house, 10 mins walk to bus route.

[Solved] Computer restarts with particular game

Heres a problem thats got me perplexed. The rig involved is my "save the whales" pc as shown in my sig. The PSU being used is a cheap one of questionable quality. A week back, i installed Tom Clancy's HAWX in the pc. The moment i started the game, the comp froze & restarted. Rather upset, i tried again, & got the same result. Beginning to suspect that my psu was dying, i started up orthos. Strangely enough, the comp did not reboot & continued through fine. next I moved on to furmark & gpu occt. Same thing, the tests went fine. Then i played a couple of other games, all passed. But the moment i start up HAWX, it dies without fail. I've tried the game in my main rig & it works fine. 2 ideas are going around in my head atm

1) Driver incompatibility. Havent had the chance to try but i shall update to the latest catalyst this weekend.

2) PSU is dying. But seems rather weird considering it passes stress tests fine.

3) Other hardware probs. Give me suggestions, i'm all ears

EDIT:
Oh....sorry for not adding that little bit of info. There is no BSOD or "windows encountered a critical error " message after the crash. Screen just goes black, power light on cpu momentarily turns off, then turns on again & i find myself staring at the mobo bootscreen sad.gif

Hey, just wanted to get the opinions of anyone here who has been through this.

1. According to the contract, the promotion is valid for 24 months, after which the broadband price returns to RM88, however, is 24 months also the minimum subscription period?

2. I am moving at the end of June while my contract runs til 13 Sept. If I was to request for termination, the promotion said I will have to return the modem. However, my modem died a couple of months back. Do I still have to return it, although the warranty period has also expired?

3. Has anyone managed to negotiate some kinda early termination deal with tm?

Reason for Buy: Ok...the reason i want this card is for a experiment to make it compatible with a pci-e 1x slot. I'm going for proof of concept(although its been done, but not by many), as well as to have a backup card that fits in a pci-e 1x slot. I will be hacking off most of the pci-e lanes, but i want the card to be in proper working order before i start. Send in your cards for chopping!!

Changing HAL from standard pc to acpi

My friend has a c2d system which he recently reformated. However, during the start of the install process, he accidentally selected "standard pc with c-step" in the HAL selection. Now his pc shows up as standard pc under device manager instead of ACPI multiprocesor pc. Also, when he shuts down he has to manually turn off the power. Is there any way to change it to ACPI multiprocessor pc without reformating? I tried using the update driver function but only standard pc shows up in the options. Thanks for any help.

As stated above, are these 2 hardwares compatible? DO I need to flash the bios 1st or anything? I bought the mobo in Dec 2007, not sure of the bios version since the comp isnt with me atm. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dying Driveshaft, how long does it have to live?

Hi guys, 1st time posting here . Anyways, my kancil EX850's driveshaft is bad. Not sure if its the left or right 1 as the usual driveshaft knocking noise comes when I'm going straight The sound has been around for about a month now but I havent had the time to get it repaired. I will probably do repairs in about a week. However, I would just be curious as to how long can the driveshaft last from the time it starts making noise to complete failure. Also, what would be the effects in case of a driveshaft failure while driving. If I'm not mistaken a friend had his driveshaft fail while on the road, only effect he said was that it became very very difficult to turn the steering. Any advice is greatly appreciated
