Changing HAL from standard pc to acpi

My friend has a c2d system which he recently reformated. However, during the start of the install process, he accidentally selected "standard pc with c-step" in the HAL selection. Now his pc shows up as standard pc under device manager instead of ACPI multiprocesor pc. Also, when he shuts down he has to manually turn off the power. Is there any way to change it to ACPI multiprocessor pc without reformating? I tried using the update driver function but only standard pc shows up in the options. Thanks for any help.

[addedon]May 27, 2008, 9:26 am[/addedon]Anybody?

Hey, can anyone recommend me a cheap GC to go into my 2nd rig. My budget is RM150-RM250, and hopefully within this price range I will be able to play the latest games on low at 800x600 or 1024x768. I prefer a new card as I want this fella to last long. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Dying Driveshaft, how long does it have to live?

Hi guys, 1st time posting here . Anyways, my kancil EX850's driveshaft is bad. Not sure if its the left or right 1 as the usual driveshaft knocking noise comes when I'm going straight The sound has been around for about a month now but I havent had the time to get it repaired. I will probably do repairs in about a week. However, I would just be curious as to how long can the driveshaft last from the time it starts making noise to complete failure. Also, what would be the effects in case of a driveshaft failure while driving. If I'm not mistaken a friend had his driveshaft fail while on the road, only effect he said was that it became very very difficult to turn the steering. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Hey, I tried asking this question in the 8800gt thread but no one seemed to know(or bother ) so thats why I'm asking it here in a new thread. I bought this card about 3 weeks ago and til today I still have no idea on how to control the fan speed. I've tried rivatuner and ntune, both dont seem to affect the speed. Anyone has this card and managed to change the speed? My card is the version with the zalman fan.

Ive had streamyx for around 3 months now and its shared between 3 people. Since the beginning this problem has occured where the line disconnects after around 2 hours. The dsl light would start blinking and the modem status would say dsl is down. The problem would persist for about 5-10 mins and then the line would re-connect. Ive tried with 2 modems and the problem is the same. However when i used the same modems at another location, everything worked fine and the line hasnt disconnected for 48 hours+. I also noticed that the disconnects occur at particular times, eg 12pm, 4pm, 12midnite etc. I am too lazy at the moment to call tmnut coz they just send u thru their usual "troubleshooting" and tell then u its ur problem .
Hi. My specs are as in my signature. At the moment I'm planning to get a new card in a few weeks and am stuck with this damaged card. There are artifacts and windows wont boot when i install the driver. I know the card is half-dead coz lastime the heatsink came lose and i didnt notice for about a week Anyway, it works quite ok without the driver installed and artifacts are minimal at desktop(minimal enough for me to type all this ). So I just want to know wether running this card for the next week or 2 could damage my other components? Input from sifus will be much appreciatd

Computer Hangup During "Verify DMI Pool Data"

My specs are as in my signature at the bottom. Recently while overclocking I tried using a different multiplier rather than the usual "AUTO". However when I reached windows it still set the multiplier at 9.5X instead of 9X which i had selected in the bios. I am using CrystalCPU but I had disabled it at this time. After that I restarted and tried another multiplier. This time the computer just froze at the screen "Update DMI Pool Data. K8 NPT Data change...... Update new data to DMI!" I couldnt even use the reset button and had to turn the power off and on back. This time the comp didnt boot at all. Then I reset the CMOS jumper and it booted again. Now this problem happends whenever I use any other multiplier except for AUTO(9.5X). Any ideas on what could be the problem? Ive done some research and is it smth to do with my bios? Or could it be hardware related? Thanks.
