please count me out as to be a moderator, as this iphone forum does require a lot of patient and dedication (to delete duplicates and eventually merging them up). this is vital as this subforum is a specialised one and you tend to get a lot of weird questions popping up from time to time.

custom firmware may fail you.. too risky bro.. who know the bugs from them..
Just download from apple side.. its free and ori

Its recommend for to upgrade the original firmware first..
after that quickpwn the iphone.. for jailbreak..

activate / noactivate (unlock/ lock?)
custom boot logo / no custom boot logo (is it the pineapple thing?)
500mb root/700mbroot

so which type so I pick for a noob with 2g iphone and wanna upgrade to 2.1

FW 2.1 of course. It is more stable and reliable as well as many bugs fixed. In fact, u dun want to be outdated by using FW 1.1.4. Keep ur iphone updated man!

Most of us will tell you to upgrade to fw 2.1 as it is stable and there's tons of apps from Appstore but some will say stick v Fw 1.1.4.

So choose your poison.

It depends on what u need actually. If u already own a superb and classy handphone, then get a ipod touch, in fact it has larger storage compare to iphone. If u r having a outdated phone now, then get iphone as u can combine 2 devices into 1.

If any newbies are reading this who is afraid of restoring and upgrading their iPhone, i finally understand why they say believe in yourself. THe process is not that difficult, and requires some reading. Last time alot of ppl scare me into not doing it cause they say i will brick my phone. Use quickpawn 2.1 as u r updating to fw 2.1

hi guys

i'm trying to restore my iphone now and upgrade to 2.1

got some error msg when itried to restore in itunes... and many tutorials recommend to go DFU mode...
but like i said home button not working might be a bit tricky...

update:

nevertheless i think i managed to get it into DFU mode, casue my computer said installing DFU mode...

now restoring... waiting waiting hopefully it'lll work

update:

i tried restoring but my phone everytime off and restart it will automatically go to recovery mode... weird.. and itunes say my phone is in recovery mode ask me to restore.. but i just restored! weird... i'll try again.
