Well ... the 640-802 is actually a combination of ICND1 and ICND2 but with roughly the same amount of questions. The 640-802 is geared towards people who are confident enough to understand the entire CCNA syllabus and want to finish off the exam in one shot.

However for those who wants to focus on certain topics on the CCNA one at a time then the ICND1 and ICND2 route is better. Personally if you are a fast learner, the 640-802 is a quicker way to earn your CCNA. But if you take the ICND1 and ICND2 route, you will get an extra cert - CCENT (passing ICND1 will get you your CCENT :-)).

There are NO pre-requisites for CCNA. When you do your CCNA, part of it is actually your CCENT. Your CCNA will touch on topics that relates to very basic stuff like the 7 layers of the OSI, what's the difference between hub and switch, why drink beer, etc.

QUOTE(Auvex @ Nov 14 2008, 05:41 PM)

I think the test does consist of around 60+ questions... Btw, for the CCNA there's 2 ways of getting it.

ICDN1 & ICDN2 and 640 - 802.

May someone please enlighten me as to whats the difference between these 2?

I am not sure if other simulation tools for Cisco switch can provide enough practices for "Simulation Questions". At the moment there are simulator that can simulate a real cisco router but not switch. I feel the questions nowadays is getting harder since many failure within this year.
So I do feel if just read the book you can score well in objectives but in simulations or case study you might not be able to do well and that where determine whether you will pass or failed.

Is it really mandatory or extremely recommended to have a hands-on experience with the equipments? if so do i really need to buy them? (Cisco routers/switches), or should i just get the Books.

2. For the exam, is it electronic (online) or a written test at a specific physical location? and if so are the tests multiple choice questions or essays (or both)?.

3. I read that you can take either 1 test or 2 tests to get certified, which one would you (the already test takers/CCNA holders) recommend? Also which would cost me more?

4. Whats with the pass4sure thingy about? why if we pass using it, it's not good?

5. Whats the salary advantage of CCNA holders? a.k.a the average starting salary.
As for me, i did study the basics of networking back in my 1st year in uni, i know the basics and fundamentals of it, just that i have no experience whatsoever in doing so with cisco equipments.

So how hard is the exam?

Thanks in advance.

You need to recertify your CCNA every 3 years. Failing to do so will void your certification and you will need to retake it again especially if it is a pre-requisite for a more advanced certification e.g. CCNP.

If you look search throughout this thread you will find the approximate price of a CCNA course. You can also ask Patrick (his posting is just above yours) for more info on the cost of courses as of today. The other members here might have updated fees as well. Note that the exam fee for a CCNA is now USD 250.
