vista system recovery. NEED HELP?, cant load laptop

my friend owns an acer laptop, 4395 i think. when installing windows 7 ( upgrading), halfway through the installation a blue screen appeared, don't remember what it said. so i tried to restart and enter safe mode to do a system restore, but everytime i try to enter windows normally or safe mode, the blue screen appears. and also the windows 7 setup wouldn't continue. if i use a vista recovery disc ( which i downloaded) would it help resolve the problem without having to lose any files or re-installing a clean copy of windows?

HP_Recovery Partition in vista laptop, izzit relevant to hard disk?

I tried to recover my laptop to the factory setting yesterday,
done it many times via the HP_Recovery Partition and the recovry discs The recovery process is successful.
But window just cannot startup..even I have used the Startup Repair Tool.

I have also done the hard disk self test in BIOS, and everything test pass.

I was told that my recovery disc is corrputed, and so is my HP_Recovery Partition.
I don't understand how is that so. I have tried using the recovery disc b4, around one year ago, and it worked fine.

Since my hard disk check is okay, can I say that there is nothing wrong with my
HP_Recovery Partition? Are both things relevant?

If every test shows that my hard disk & HP_Recovery Partition are okay.
But why can't I start up window?

Please advice!
