WTA: Recommendation for ADSL modem + WiFi router, Possibly can mod DD-WRT or similar

I am getting a new ADSL modem + WiFi router combo for a friend.

Please recommend a reasonable one (reliable & not too expensive).
If possible, I would like to
1) be able to flash with DD-WRT firmware or equivalent (is there other better firmware?)
2) default firmware should not be too bad either (due to I will not flash initially, but may flash it next time)

Usage is multi purpose but will on 24/7.

I've set it to 10KB/sec but after i restore the windows WooooOoooOOooOo
It goes up to 40++KB/sec
anyone have these problems?

my DSL light keeps blinking,now even mroe frequently.Should i lodge a complain? Call 100 is it? and if they answer,shall i ask them to reset port? and do i need to give any details?

CUSTOMER SERVICE : only work from 9am to 6pm, mon to fri... SHIT SERVICE!! Working ppl like us, how to get them to help????? and thier line worst !! Their customer service are shit!! never wait for me to finish my word, already cut my line！！！

SPEED AT ONLY 512kbps, at RM60/mth..... but always not at tat speed de...... and always cannot be use... always technical problem... keep on troubleshooting!! Whenever i need it urgently, it will down!! Not reliable!!!!

*But i have no choice, my area dun have streamyx.. even wirelss broadband also not good... some dun have coverage....

PAYMENT METHOD (The MOST complicatec payment method been experienced ):
1. Pay thru ATM machine to their maybank account.
2. Fax or email the receipt to them
3. MUST call the SPECIFIC PERSON (Samantha, the only person to handle) to inform them you already paid... If that person on leave, then the msg will never pass to her one....!!! at the end, your bill will accumulated!!!!!! Sometime even after called, the bill still accumulated... AND the SPECIFIC person are hardly called.. the worst i experienced is called up to 10x times also cannot get the fella!!!!

CONCLUSION:
No matter is "Go Light Speed" or "MyKriss" also SXXX ............. DUN USE THE SERVICE PROVIDER ........

Ok , i want to apply for streamyx 110 Combo for my new apartment i rented .
There is no phone line available too . only got phone port i think they need to activate only can get a line .
If anyone gone through this before , can kindly explain to me charges from beginning till the time the bill of streamyx comes ?
as i know there r charges for installing phone line and so on ..

Melaka Broadband Project

- TM was awarded a project by Melaka State Government to increase broadband port penetration in Melaka Tengah to 75% of the population.

- TM will use the special grant together with TM’s own planned investment to build, operate and manage the broadband access in Melaka State.

- With a portion of the access infrastructure is being sponsored, the State Govt. expect a reduction in cost for TM to provide broadband pricing; hence the price to Melaka resident should be lower.

- This collaboration allows the risk of high infrastructure investment by TM in a low demand area is being shared by Melaka State Govt. or local authority.

Telekom Malaysia ™ has signed a two-year contract with Swedish vendor Ericsson for the nationwide expansion of its optical network infrastructure and associated network management. Deployment of the kit began in June 2008, although no date has been announced for completion of the rollout. The upgrades will offer improved speeds and performance, allowing TM to manage growing consumer demand for broadband applications, including Internet Protocol Television (IPTV). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, TM currently dominates the broadband landscape in Malaysia, claiming a 93.3% market share at March 2008.

Telekom Malaysia’s revenues decline, swings to loss on one-offs

Telekom Malaysia ™ has announced its financial results for the third quarter ended 30 September 2008. The fixed line and broadband operator posted revenues of MYR2.062 billion (USD576 million), registering a decline of 3.1% compared to MYR2.129 billion recorded in 3Q 2007. This was mainly attributed to lower voice service revenue resulting from lower usage, which was partly mitigated by higher revenue from broadband and data services. In July-September 2008, TM incurred exceptional costs including foreign exchange losses on the sale of Societe des Telecommunications de Guinee (Sotelgui) as well as prior years’ volume commitment charges to foreign carriers. These and other one-off items contributed to a net loss for the three-month period of MYR165.8 million, compared to net profit of MYR340.9 million in the corresponding quarter last year. Excluding significant non-recurring costs, TM said it would have posted positive net income of MYR176.4 million for the most recent quarter, down from MYR195.5 million in 3Q 2007. Exceptional costs also resulted in a lower three-month EBITDA of MYR696.5 million, down from MYR816.4 million previously.

In 3Q 2008, broadband internet access continued to be TM’s key driver, registering year-on-year revenue growth of 24.6% to MYR390.6 million, with 32% y-o-y broadband customer growth to 1.55 million, up from 1.18 million at end-September 2007.

TM set to increase backbone internet capacity

Telekom Malaysia ™ has revealed plans to increase its broadband infrastructure capacity by 30% to 130Gbps in 2009, citing a rise in demand for online services as the main driving factor. Malaysian news source The Star Online also reports that the telco plans to increase its bandwidth to 100Gbps by the end of 2008, up from the 90Gbps it presently offers. Rozaimy Rahman, COO of TM Global, a subsidiary of TM, noted that rising demand has been driven by an increase in the number of voice calls, the growing number of home offices and the rise of high definition TV content.

TMIC announces new investment

Telekom Malaysia International (Cambodia) (TMIC – formerly CASACOM) is committing USD150 million to upgrade network capacity and add 500 new base transmitter stations (BTS) between now and 2009, according to CEO Yusoff Zamri. The Telekom Malaysia ™ subsidiary has already spent USD25 million deploying 100 new BTS this year, he said, adding that new stations were needed to improve coverage in the capital Phnom Penh and in rural and provincial areas. Yusoff said a ‘substantial sum’ was also being spent on the TMIC rebranding with the aim of projecting a new image following TM's takeover of the company in March 2006. TMIC is hoping to increase its subscriber base to half a million by the end of 2008, from its end-3Q07 level of 283,000, with a new marketing campaign. TMIC offers GSM services under the ‘Hello’ banner

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, TMIC had a 14% share of the Cambodian subscriber market midway through 2007, behind rivals Mobitel and Camshin. Yusoff said TMIC was expected to achieve 25% revenue growth in the current financial year, ending 31 December 2007, and with the extra investment, growth of more than 25% is forecast for 2008.

Telekom Malaysia demos 100Mbps fibre-optic service

Telekom Malaysia ™ has previewed a fibre-optic-based super fast internet access service which offers download speeds of up to 100Mbps. ‘We are heading for the digital home era where IPTV, VoIP and home surveillance (via the internet) are necessities,’ said TM Malaysia Business CEO Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa. The telco plans to start the first phase rollout of the service in the third quarter of next year. Initially the connection speed will be 10Mbps, but this will increase as the rollout continues. Zamzamzairani said TM would be concentrating on high-rise buildings such as condominiums before moving to other residential areas.

Leading multi-system operators (MSOs) of cable TV service in Taiwan have been promoting sales of cable-modem broadband Internet-access service at a download speed of 10Mbps, in a bid to compete with ISPs' (Internet service providers) xDSL, according to industry sources.

The download speed of 10Mbps is specifically for audio/video streaming and playing online games, the sources indicated.

TFN Media expects the number of its broadband cable modem subscribers to increase to 90,000 by the end of 2008, the sources noted. China Network Systems and kbro are offering existing xDSL subscribers compensations for possible punitive fines imposed by ISPs due to breach of contracts, the sources said, adding kbro plans to offer cable-modem Internet-access service with download speeds of 30Mbps and 100Mbps in 2009, the sources indicated.

Because cable TV subscribers need not pay leased-circuit fees for additional cable-modem Internet-access service, charges for cable modem are 10-20% lower than those for xDSL of the same speeds, the sources said. Currently in Taiwan there are nearly 500,000 cable modem subscribers and 3.42 million xDSL subscribers, the sources noted.

as my previous topic didnt have much replies to my problem...im making a new 1

this problem started 1 evening under heavy thunderstorm...after that,my DSL light just keep randomly blinking...dont know if screamnyx messed up thier IP range and DNS server,but it seems im lik the only1 affected...btw the area i live is in Teluk Pulai,Klang...maybe cus this area many kampung people so not much Screamnyx users...or thier service just sucks

I need a reliable & reasonable price modem.
Please recommend me brand & model & quote current price if available.

I already have linksys wifi router.
I use 24/7 & heavy BT.

I believe most of the work already done by the linksys router, so probably just need modem.
But I don't mind modem router, more importantly reliability.

Sent petition to the goverment, Abolish the 12 months min sub rules

Hi guys.

Just an aftertought.

Why don't we sent a petition to the government asking them to abolish the 12/18/ 24 months min subscription rules.

Cause it's very unfair.. Why do we have to wait till the end of the contract if the telco companies not doing the same thing.

A year is way too long to rectify a problem. Esp connection problems for a telco company.

I've read many stories of people being ripped off by telco companies.. promising this and that but always fail to deliver..

Instead of 12 months min subscription.. let's make it 1, 2, or 3 month or better we can terminate it anytime if they don't deliver ( with evidence of course)

The current rules just lured the innocent to their doom... paying for something below satisfactory or not working.

That's our hard earn money!!!

And how bout rules that state that a telco company must achieve 65% of their promised download / upload speed.. Cause " Best effort basis" is very misleading..Even I can claim that 1 kbps download speed is my "BEST EFFORT BASIS".
