Guys,

Noob question here.
Whats the difference for Hyper 212 Plus and Hyper 212?
I cant really see any comparison review in web.
Suppose Hyper 212 Plus is newer product should be more expensive right?
I see its lot cheaper than Hyper 212. Is the cooling performance wise Hyper 212 better?
Appreciate feedbacks.

Question on system cooling, Asus P5Q Pro in CM Elite 335

I'm using Asus P5Q Pro in Cooler Master Elite 335.
I know Elite 335 is not exactly easy in cable management but I'll have to do the best I can.

OK, my question:
1. I've tried to mount a 40mm fan on top of the NB heatsink using screws but I found the fan is a little bit bigger than the heatsink so I can screw the four corner. Is there a cheap and simple way to mount the fan? Is it recommended to mount the fan sideway with cable-tie?

2. Since I have no place to hide those cable, is twirling the sata cable a good idea so that I can make some room for psu cable?

3. I salvaged a fan speed controller from my old Thermaltake Volcano 7+, it has a low>medium>high switch and a spliter for motherboard fan connector to monitor fan speed. May I use this controller on any other case fan or only certain type of fan?

4. I have my SB X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro (the one with EMI shield) sitting extremely close to my HD4870 in 1st PCI-E x16 slot, is this bad? Does the back of graphic card PCB need to be cleared for better cooling? Shall I move the graphic card to 2nd PCI-E x16 slot?

5. Which is better to connect the case fan? Motherboard fan connector, fan controller or psu directly?

Hi guys,

After a few weeks of reading and gathering guts, I've finally decided to install my 2 week old Accelero Xtreme 4870x2 cooler.
Here are some pics and bits of wisdom i picked up while installing the cooler earlier today.
Excuse the noob photography yah.

First off, pics of the Stock Asus4870x2 Cooler.

Backplate pic:

Ok, first things first, we need to get that back and x-plate out. A few screw turns later and we're done.
The screws were tight, but came off easily with a bit of force.

Next, turn the board over and remove the original fan shroud for a naked view of the card.
The fan power cable was a b!tch to take out though. Patience, mini tweezers and a flathead screwdriver recommended.

Clean all the grease up (alcohol and an eraser) and we get ourselves some nice clear RV770 cores and the PLX PI-E bridge chip.

A close-up of the RV770 core

Need advice for after market cpu cooler, Mobo is gigabyte n680sli-dq6

I am thinking of replacing the stock HSF. Currently using gigabyte n680sli-dq6, problem is the heat pipes on the mobo is causing compatibility issues with the choice of aftermarket coolers. Water cooling is out. Too complicated for me, maybe when I go quadie than would look into that option.

my current reading is core temp at 50 degrees (idle), 70 degrees (100% utilization)

thanks for contribiting.

Update on my reaserch. Those that need to mount back support bracket. Can't use. So those high tower coolers are a no no. (i think?)

Compatible CPU that I found so far are
Scythe Ninja PLUS Rev. B
Zalman CNPS9700

I think the basic intel design by only using push pin? should be compatible.

best heatsink

Is it acceptable?

Found that the RealTemp/CPUTemp have same temperature readings but are different from the Asus PC probe II (which has a higher reading), which reading should I trust?
My new sycthe slip stream fan, Dunno problem or not..

Guys, Need some info here.. I just bought a new sycthe slip stream fan.
I install it to the molex instead of mobo socket.

Once install a couple of minute got some burning plastic smell in the pc...I checked thoroughly and
I manage to isolate the smell come from the new fan!..
the middle hub of sychthe fan smell like plastic burning.
I thought its because the new fan, need some running in of the moving part..so my guess no more smell after couple of hour.

But on the 2nd day..smell is there..even my kids and wife complaining they smell something burning too..

Currently run about 2days around 3-4h a day..

what do you think? is it normal? will go away after a few days OR not normal at all?

please help here....I will continue to monitor a few day.

thanks...
