Sony Planning Paid PSN Subscriptions For 2010,

Kaz Hirai confirms premium level will be added on top of PS3 and PSP's online service, which will remain free to play online; PSN revenue expected to hit $563 million this fiscal year.

One the biggest selling points of the PlayStation 3 is that gamers can use the console to play online at no additional charge. However, evidence has surfaced that the company is planning a two-tiered subscription model for the PlayStation Network similar to--but also fundamentally different from--Xbox Live.

Sony is mulling a premium version of PSN.

Slides accompanying a Thursday presentation by Sony show that the company is planning a "new revenue stream from subscription" on PSN in 2010. [UPDATE] During the presentation, which emphasized Sony's plans to make its game business profitable in the next fiscal year, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai confirmed the plans. "We will be building upon our current free [PSN] service offering with premium content and services to start the subscription model," he told attendees.

Perhaps to assuage PS3 owners' fears that they would soon have to pay to play online, Hirai issued a subsequent statement indicating the present level of service would remain gratis.

"SCE will further increase sales by offering users new entertainment through the combination of hardware, software, peripheral, and PlayStation Network," Hirai said in a statement given to British outlets, such as CVG. "Especially in the online area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services." (Emphasis added.)

As of press time, US Sony reps had not offered Hirai's statement or further clarification about its subscription plans for the PlayStation Network. Luckily, though, the "current free services" currently offered on PSN include online play, Facebook integration, and Netflix video streaming. On Xbox Live, both of those features are only accessible at the Gold membership level, which costs at least $50 per year.

[UPDATE] Even without subscriptions, PSN revenue is on the rise. For the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2010, Sony expects ¥50 billion ($563 million) in earnings from the service, a threefold increase from the year prior. In addition to game-related content, the PSN's retail component--the PlayStation Store--offers video offerings, such as television shows and movies for both rental and sale.

For the past few days,my ps3 slim(bought it @ launch in 1U) had started to give me problems..Here r the problem than i had encounter:-

1)It takes a verrrrrryyyy long time to load up the game

2)It takes a very long time to start-up the XMB(sometimes no icons at all,so i need to switch off and on the power switch cause no choice)

3)It often hangs

4)Then just now after i force switch off the ps3(cause hang),then when i turned it ON back,it went into recovery mode,it ask me to install back the FW3.01..SO after i install back,still no difference..All the problems r still there

**All this happen just recently only

I really dun understand la why its is like this,its only been what about 2 weeks only ..My last phat PS3 kaput because of YLOD.. ..

So im planning to go and claim the warranty tomoro..Any recommendations?I live in Ampang btw..KlCC's Sony Style ok?

FIFA, along with Presenting Partners EA SPORTS and PlayStation, today (6 October) announced the start of the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2010 (FIWC10) season. The sixth edition of the world's largest football gaming tournament provides virtual athletes from around the globe the unique opportunity of competing in an official FIFA World Cup. The FIFA Interactive World Champion 2010 will be decided at the Grand Final in Barcelona, Spain on 1 May 2010, for which players can qualify online or at live qualifier events. The winner will receive USD 20,000 and "a money can't buy" experience of attending the FIFA World Player Gala, where they will mingle with the best football players in the world.

"More than half a million players vied for a spot in the Grand Final of last year's FIFA Interactive World Cup. As reported by Kotaku, Mad Catz have annouced the new Wireless N-adapter which can be used not only for the XB360, but also the ps3!!

just for share.. any of you who is planning to buy a PS3 Slim.. some game saves are locked on your previous unit.. i got this one from another forum.. maybe it would help you in your future trouble.. I'm thinking of getting a PS3 Slim myself cause i'm sick of the auto-restart caused by the 3.01FW.. i hope this helps..

easy as pie. I have personally done it 3 times. 1 swapped ps3 from Sony, one sold and bought a new one, one was a friend's he swapped it for a Sony one.

You will have to re download all PSN games, game patches... But your videos, music and all saves and themes, settings, even account icons will be intact.

I did not have a KZ2 save then, but I had LBP. And I was able to continue getting trophies. The one game whose save did not backup was High Velocity Bowling.

What do you guys think, if using this AP2 stand with G27? This stand is more compact and easy to store. As for price, I think its cheaper than "Playseats" from US and I heard they dont ship to M'sia. I chose this model due to its foldable and can support any chairs and seating area around the house. The structure quality looks promising as well. Any comment are welcome...

Final Fantasy X (PS2), omega ruins challenge help~

Hi guys...I know FFX a very very very old game, but I'm just started playing it... I already tried looking around the Internet for answers, but my question kinda specific so i no luck so far...so my question is, at the omega ruins there, there are 12 boxes which if opened in sequence will give you "Warp Sphere X99", right?

let's say i reach the area with 3 boxes. how come when i open the first 2 correctly(received item), the final box got monster? isn't it supposed to be safe? (at area with 4 boxes, I opened 3 boxes then the last one have monster) If i try to leave the area after opening the first 2 boxes, then the 3rd box disappears (which I know it's supposed to), so I'll miss the sequence as well since one box from each area is missing.

what this mean is that I'm never going to achieve opening all 12 boxes in sequence, because the 3rd box in the area with 3 boxes (or the 4th box in the area with 4 boxes) always has a monster(which I think is not supposed to happen, from the guides I've read). I know saving and restarting the game messes up the sequence of the boxes, so I got a special way to save the game mid-way(don't ask me how ) to try out different combinations in different areas, but it still doesn't work. does this mean I can't get the 99 warp spheres? am i doing something wrong?

Hi playstation brotherhood! It's been a while now since I'm posting in this again. Since my ps3 is now dead I've not been playing for quite some time . Its body is safely preserved in the box now. I'll get to repairing it or buy a new one soon I guess, been busy with my life lulz.

I'm wondering if any of you guys noticed better ping to US now that there's this new undersea fibre optic cable linking directly to the US since 10th november. How's the modern warfare/killzun 2/other games ping rates to the US servers now?
